Chapter 29

Skyler’s POV

“Skyler, wake up.” Kanto said, gently waking me up. “I’m sorry, it seemed like you were having a nightmare.”

“No just a really strange dream.” I was still a bit groggy. I started to move and felt all the soreness from the day before. I let out a small groan as I moved at both the soreness and the thought of all the movement I’d be doing that day. I reluctantly asked Kanto my question. “What’s the plan for today?”

“Well judging by how long your groan was…” I felt a little embarrassed now. “You are going to relax here today. Bed rest.”

“But Kanto, I can’t just lie here and do nothing all day.” As much as I would like to have a low-key day I know I have to prepare to be Luna.

A sly smile grew on Kanto’s face. “Not to worry. My mom will come up here for your lessons and I’ll come do some of my paperwork up here. And when I’m not here Dustin and Colton will be standing guard outside the door.”

“I don’t know, I don’t want the other pack members to think I’m lazy or weak.” I did want to relax a bit since it’s been pretty crazy since I got here but I knew I needed to show I’m strong, especially since I’m human.

“Skyler, you were shoved down the stairs yesterday and busted through a railing.” Kanto paused to take a breath. “All the pack members who saw you joking with Brett while you had a giant piece of wood sticking out of your leg think you’re badass. So take it easy today.”

I sighed annoyed but was also relieved, my body was hurting. Dr. Garcia warned me I would be in more pain today now that the adrenaline and drugs wore off. “Fine, but only because it would please you Alpha.” I gave him a smile before leaning over to peck his lips.

“Thank you. Also it will allow my healing ability to help you heal faster if you use less energy doing other activities.”

“Oh yea Dr. Garcia did mention that even though I’m not marked, since you’re the Alpha, I should have a better healing rate than normal.” For a clumsy person like me, that rapid healing was really coming in handy.

“Good so you focus on relaxing today and I’ll be back with breakfast.” Kanto kissed me before walking off. While he was gone I felt like there was something I was meant to ask him but I forgot. I guess if it’s important it’ll come back.

Kanto came back with breakfast, which was delicious of course. Then he left to work while I snuggled in with one of my werewolf history books. The rest of the day was a nice change of pace. Luna Maribelle came by for my Luna lessons. She fret about my injuries for a bit before reassuring me that her son would take care of it. My body focused on healing and that was exactly what happened. As the day progressed I felt less sore and noticed my bruising going through the healing phases rapidly fast. Kanto stopped by a couple times around mealtime but couldn’t stay long, but I didn’t blame him. I must have thrown everything out of place yesterday with my disappearing act. I’ll have to find a way to shown him my appreciation.

After dinner I was alone reading in bed, but I eventually called it quits. I turned on the tv until I stumbled across a movie I’ve definitely seen a thousand times before, but never get tired of it. I lied back in the bed occasionally mouthing the lines since I knew the movie so well.

Next think I know, I’m wrapped by arms as the sun is peaking in through the window. I glanced at the clock on the wall and realized I fell asleep last night. I made sure not to squirm too much because I knew that the arms the encased me were Kanto’s. I studied his face for a bit taking in his strong jawline and his brown locks of hair. I could study his face for forever, but my bladder eventually called me away.

I snuck out of Kanto’s arms and made it to the bathroom. I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. My forehead stitches already looked better, my body didn’t feel nearly as sore as it did yesterday. My leg, where the piece of wood was, was still tender with stitches but that was understandable. I felt significantly better today. After washing my hands I carefully opened the door back to the room. Kanto was still fast asleep in the bed, all the extra work from yesterday must have exhausted him. I gently got back into the bed and underneath his arm. I felt Kanto’s grip around me tightened.

Kanto took a big inhale and smiled. “Good morning, beautiful.” He said softly. He blinked a couple of times before I could clearly see his hazel eyes. I laid there just staring for a moment. “What are you staring at?”

“Just the gorgeous man in bed next to me.” I said in a whispered voice. I ran my hand through his dark hair before placing that hand on the back of his head. Kanto picked up on my hint and leaned in to kiss me. I drifted my fingers across Kanto’s body before wrapping my arms around him and pulling Kanto more on top of me. Kanto was hesitant but laid me on my back while hovering over me. I lifted my head slightly to press more firmly on his lips, I used my hand to pull him closer. It works for a split second until Kanto pulled away.

“Skyler, we can’t. You need to rest and heal.” Kanto said with a guilty expression on his face.

“I’ll be fine, it’s just my leg and I don’t need that for this.” I pulled him back in and kiss him again. He hesitated at first, probably afraid he’d hurt me, but he slowly began to deepen the kiss. I brushed my tongue across my his lips asking for access which he gave. I always got a strange feeling of warmth when I kissed him, each kiss was perfect and better than the last. But I wanted more. I let my hands move underneath his shirt and felt every muscle. I could feel a different kind of heat growing between my legs.

Kanto broke our kiss to lift off his shirt, then carefully took of mine. I could tell he was getting angry when he saw the leftover bruises on me again, so I pulled him back down to me. But at last minute I shoved him with all my force so he would be on his back with me on top. I let my right hand play with the waistband of his gym shorts for a bit before moving it to a better location. I glided my hand briefly over the growing bulge in Kanto’s gym shorts before staying there and stroking up and down.

“Mhmm Skyler.” Kanto let out in a low growl. I took this as my sign to continue my mischievous plan. I moved my hand back to his waistband and slowly slid my hand into his pants. “Maybe this is how I want to start my mornings every morning.” I teased but I knew that I couldn’t do this every morning, at least not yet. “I’m joking, I don’t think Zenith would respect my wishes to wait if we did that every morning.”

“Not if you’re still unsure about staying with me for the rest of our lives. He yelled at me to mark you almost the whole time.” He sounded reluctant at the mention of my uncertainty.

I turned slightly to see his face and pecked his lips. “I’m warming up to the idea.” I gave him a smile while I could see his eyes brighten. He moved to give me a longer kiss, I pushed him away after a good amount of time. “Not today though, still need some time.”

“I’m just happy you’re thinking about it.” He said giving me kiss on my forehead. “Let’s finish washing up before Zenith takes over. Also there are people who want to meet you at breakfast.”

I quickly washed my body, with Kanto’s help, and got changed. I decided to wear a more comfortable dress. Simple black not too tight so it wouldn’t irritate my stitches but not too lose that it didn’t look like an oversized t-shirt. I put on my white sneakers. I threw my hair into a loose braid and put on light amounts of makeup, using both my hair and makeup to cover the barely visible stitches on my forehead. I thought I looked pretty good for a person who had multiple stitches and bruises.

“Nope.” Kanto said when he finally saw me, I tried to figure out what I did wrong. “You can’t look that cute until you’ve been marked. Other males will get bad ideas.”

I giggled and rolled my eyes at Kanto’s jealousy. I looked at him too, he was wearing dress pants and a light blue button up shirt. “Are you going to the office today?”

“Unfortunately, yes. I can’t leave it to Brett for forever. But I only have a couple of meetings today so it shouldn’t take all day.” Kanto had an apologetic face.

“No worries. I’ll focus on learning and getting to know the people I’m meeting today.” I smiled at him while grabbing his hand to reassure him. I was upset he had to leave but I couldn’t force him to stay. “You have responsibilities and I understand that, just as long as you don’t forget about me.”

“Never. You’re my mate, I could never forget about you.” Kanto leaned down and put his forehead on mine. We stood there for a moment enjoying the silence of being with each other. “Alright let’s go downstairs. I keep getting mindlinked about how we are late and it’s getting annoying.”

“I’ll follow you anywhere, Alpha.” Kanto let out a low growl before smashing his lips onto mine. He didn’t hesitate to push his tongue into my mouth as I flung my arms around his neck. Kanto wrapped his arms around my waist pulling me closer practically lifting me off the ground. I had no issue with Kanto literally sweeping me off my feet, except that new people wanted to meet me today.

I let the kiss linger on for a moment before finally and reluctantly pulling away. “If I recall, you said we were running late.” Kanto groan as I opened the door for us to leave. I got to walk a couple of steps before Kanto noticed my small limp and carried me the rest of the way down the stairs. He didn’t put me down until we were out front of the kitchen doors.

“Ready?” He asked. I took a deep breath and nodded. He placed a kiss on my forehead before opening the door.

“Good morning Alpha. Good morning Luna” Jack said with a slight bow, next to him was a woman with dark brown hair and light brown skin. Her glasses covered her soft green eyes. “Luna Skyler, this is my mate Leilani.”

“It’s so nice to finally meet you!” Leilani came up and wrapped me in a hug which I was happy to return. “I can’t wait to get to know you better.”

“I’m happy to meet you as well, it will be nice to have more people I can talk to.” I smiled at her sincerely, being away from my old life I could use a new friend.

“Ah you finally decided to join us Alpha, what took you so long?” I saw Brett walking up with a plate of food and a smirk on his face.

“I see you had no issue with waiting for us.” Kanto said while staring at Brett’s plate of food.

“Hey you just found your mate, I thought you two were never coming down.” Brett smirked again.

“Is your mate here too?” I asked trying to diffuse the tension.

“Yes, she went to put her plate down at the table. She didn’t want to miss out on the waffles.”

That’s when I saw a woman with super curly red hair come towards me. “No f*****g way.” I knew I got some surprises looks but I couldn’t help it. “Andrea?!?!?”

“Skyler!!!” She ran up and hugged me, then she pulled me back a bit to look at me as if she couldn’t believe I was here. “What the hell are you doing here?”

“Kanto brought me.” I was still stunned to see my best friend here.

“You’re Kanto’s mate?!?” I nodded and she looked over at Kanto. “Really Kanto? Our future Luna is this Skyler, you could have told me.”

I looked back at all the confused faces around us. “Andrea and I teach at the same school. We’ve been friends for a couple years now.” I paused and looked back at Andrea. “You know actually, things about you make a lot more sense now.”

Andrea laughed and started to drag me off to the head table with Leilani following closely behind. I turned to look behind at Kanto. He gave me a warm smile, I think we were both relieved that they all accepted me so easily. Having Kanto here too, I’m starting to feel more at home.
