Chapter 36

Kanto’s POV

I finish up my work and head down the hall. Before I get to the office I hear absurd amounts of obnoxious laughing and music. I also smell alcohol. I open the door to Andrea’s office and I’m shocked at what I see. Andrea and Leilani are dancing on the ground, while in one of the couches is one of my pack members sleeping, I believe her name is Minnie. The biggest shock was my mate dancing and singing on top of the desk.

“KANTO!” She shouts and starts running towards me. She launches off the desk as if she forgot she was up there, luckily I was there to catch her. She wraps her arms around my waist and snuggles into my chest. “Yay Kanto’s here! We can have a real dance party now!”

I’m bewildered, I don’t even know how to react, but I know how to get answers. I look up at my Beta’s and Gamma’s mates who are now staring at me while trying to stifle their giggles. “What the hell is going on?”

Andrea is the first to speak, starting her sentence with a giggle. “Well you see, Skyler has been working really hard recently.”

“Really hard.” Leilani said nodding her head with a serious expression on her face but clearly drunk.

“So we decided to have a drink to relax a bit.” Andrea continued. “But the human level liquor was all the down stairs. So we had to drink Wolfsbane’s Whiskey.” Andrea held up the bottle presenting its label to me.

“Why would you give her liquor meant for werewolf. She’s human! Her body can’t handle it.” I almost start yelling, feeling Zenith getting angry.

“Au contraire!” Skyler shouts standing up straight and pointing a finger up. “Im still very much alive and ready to daaaaaannncceeee with yooooouuuu.” She turns around and starts to dance, wiggling her butt in front of me.

Maybe this isn’t so bad. Zenith calms down in my mind admiring our little mate’s drunken dancing.

“Nope. Uh-uh. We are going upstairs.” I shake my head trying to push Zenith out of my mind.

“GOOD IDEA!” Skyler shouts and spins around too fast causing her to stumble a bit, but I grab onto her arms to stabilize her. She then takes her right hand, points a finger at me and starts poking me. “You. . . I have a feeeew thing I want to do with yoooouuuu Alpha muscle man.”

Andrea and Leilani giggle behind Skyler, she turns to them and gives them a big hug. “You two are the best and you’re so pretty. Oh my gosh! We should have a dance party!”

The two laughed even harder as Skyler started to dance again. I let out a sigh. I spun Skyler around, she gave me a big grin to which I couldn’t help but smile back at her.

“Awwwwww.” Leilani, Andrea and the now awake Minnie say.

“Alright we’re going upstairs.” I bend down and hoist Skyler over my shoulder.

“Weeeeee!” Skyler giggled. “Bye bye friends!” She waved before we walked out. I headed to the stairs and took them 2 at a time, while Skyler is humming behind me. “I like this view I have.”

Get her upstairs faster. Zenith licked his lips. I did take his advice though and sprinted up the stairs with different intentions. We finally make it up to our room and I gently place Skyler on the bed. But she latched onto my neck and places her lips on mine. I get lost in the kiss for a moment before pulling away.

Skyler gives me another smile with her eyes closed while slowly sitting up. “Hmmmm I missed you. I always miss you when you aren’t here.”

“I missed you too.”I sit down next to her, happy that I’m not the only one who missing the other. “Was planning really that difficult?”

“Naaahhh.” She waved her hand. “How petty can I be?”

“What?” I smile out of confusion at the sudden change of topic.

“Like, if someone is being a b***h, can I like b***h back?” She asked slurring her words a bit. “Like I know I need to be graceful and I will but if someone is being super rude can I word ninja respond?”

“If anyone is rude to you, I’ll rip there tongues out.” Zenith answers for me.

“Uh it’s hot in here.” Skyler fans herself for a bit. Then she takes the bottom of her shirt and starts to pull it over her head. Then she flops back onto the bed with just her bra and shorts on. I chuckle until I see a fresh bruise on the right side of her stomach.

“Skyler. Where did you get that bruise from?” I growled, Zenith was roaring with anger. That when I noticed one of Skyler’s cheeks was more red than the other one.

“Why don’t you tell me about the bleach blonde girl. The one you loooove.” Skyler pouted but I could see her eyes glossing over, filling with tears.

“Skyler please tell me what happened.” I say more gently, scooping her up in my arms. She squirms in my arms a bit before relaxing and looking up at me, eyebrows pulled to together and her lips quivering.

“Well. . .” She hesitates to answer. “I went down to get some snacks from the kitchen but I heard a commotion. When I got there Minnie was on the ground while this bleach blonde girl was standing over her. I stepped in to help but she slapped me for talking back.”

I could feel my anger rising but I stayed calm on the outside because tears started falling from Skyler’s eyes. “Then she talked about how you loved her and how she was the future Luna and how you would do everything for her. I talked back again and that when she punched me, I tried to dodge but I was too slow.”

“Why did you go somewhere without protection?” I grumbled out, some of my anger spilling out. “I told you not to go anywhere without it.”

Skyler’s voice hitched as she continued. “She eventually walked away but her words are stuck in my head. ‘A worthless human like me’. Why would you want a worthless human like me when you could have someone gorgeous like her? She obviously has a past with you, so why would you pick me? And it’s not just her, there are so many beautiful, capable women here that could be with you that have known you longer. Why would you pick me? Someone who’s hesitating to be marked. Someone who’s clueless on everything. Who can’t even defend themselves. And if I do fall in love with you, how long will it be until you get bored of me?”

My heart broke listening to how insecure my mate has been feeling. Zenith whimpered in the back of my mind. I wanted to stop her, but she kept going. “I know you’re not Tim, I know you’re a different person.”

Who the f**k is Tim? Zenith growled in my mind.

Don’t know but whoever he is, if we ever meet him, I’m kicking his ass. I respond my wolf approving of my suggestion.

“And you said all those beautiful things earlier. But people change. So after more time, why would you want to stay with human me?” She tried to pull away as if to give me to option to leave her. There was no way in hell I’d do that. I pulled her tighter against my chest letting her tears get on my shirt.

“Skyler. I don’t care about anyone else and I don’t want anyone else except you.” I say softly into the dirty blonde hair on top of her head. “This is one thing that will never change, I’ll always choose you.”

Skyler looked at me, eyes wide, studying my face. “But you’re like, waaaay too pretty for me. You’re, without a doubt, the most gorgeous man I’ve ever met.” Her eyes that were once filled with tears were now filled with lust. I make a mental note that when Skyler gets drunk, she has mood swings.

She wraps her arms around my neck again and pulls me down for a kiss. I indulge in the kiss for a bit, but pull back when she starts to try to take off my shirt. “No Skyler, we aren’t doing anything more than kissing.”

She looks up at me with the biggest pair of puppy dog eyes. “But I want to lick your abs like it’s ice cream on a hot day.”

As you wish my lady. Zenith fights for control to grant our mates wish, but I win the battle.

“Skyler, I think you’re a little drunk, how about we go to bed instead?”

Skyler pouted before reluctantly nodding. I got up to change again after tucking Skyler into bed. When I trying to get back into bed I was in trouble. Skyler managed to take off her shorts in the time I change and now was sleeping peacefully in just a bra and underwear. My mind instantly went back to the pool from earlier this afternoon. She must have felt my weight in the bed because Skyler scooted herself back against me. Her perfect ass lined up with my growing erection.

She let out a sigh and if it weren’t for my wolf hearing I wouldn’t have caught what she said. “I want you.” Zenith was over the moon, howling at her comment. Yea there was no way I was going to be able to sleep tonight.

Skyler’s POV

I woke up with a slight headache. I glanced at the clock on the nightstand that read 4:48am and groaned at myself for last night. Being carried up the stairs like a sack of potatoes was embarrassing enough, but telling Kanto I wanted to lick his abs was the cherry on top of the embarrassment cake. I mean I still want to do that but I can’t believe I told him.

Speaking of Kanto, where was he? I remember him getting into bed with me. I looked around the room to see him sleeping on the couch. Why was he over there? I slid out of the bed and noticed I was only in a bra and panties, a very skimpy pair of panties at that. Did I make him uncomfortable?

I grabbed a pair of shorts and a big shirt and threw them on. I silently walked over to my sleeping wolf and contemplated how to get him back to bed without waking him. But there was no use, he’s over a foot taller than me and is make of muscle, there’s no way I could carry him over.

“Kanto.” I whispered gently while rubbing my hand against his cheek. He reacted to my touch a little bit as I saw his face relax more. I gave him a light kiss on his cheek before continuing to awaken him. “Kanto, come to bed.”

He slowly nodded his head and tried to get up. I wrapped my arms around him to offer support. Luckily for me the walk to the bed was short. He plopped down on the bed as if he’d been sleeping there for hours. I giggled to myself before going to the bathroom. Kanto didn’t budge from his spot when I walked out of the bathroom, it wasn’t until I snuggled back into the bed that he moved.

“Why are you up so early?” He mumbled without opening his eyes. He shuffled under the blankets quickly pulling me into his chest.

“It’s nothing, I just wanted you next to me.” I said which made me easily blurt out my neck question. “Why were you on the couch?”

“You weren’t wearing much clothing and you were saying a lot of sexy things. I wouldn’t have been able to control myself if you had kept wiggling your butt all night. So I went to the couch to hopefully sleep.” I knew my face was bright red even if I could see it. Kanto let out a low chuckle. “It’s good to know you want me and that you want to lick my abs.”

I swatted at one of his arms as my face burned up. “I was drunk, I mean it’s true, I want you and I want to but drunk me didn’t have to tell you.”

Kanto pulled me tighter for a second before losing his hold. “As much as I would like to indulge your desires, I have a question or two for you.” I rolled over so I could face him, his facial expression looked a bit sad but he was more awake looking than he was a couple minutes ago. “Who’s Tim?”

My heart dropped remembering that I brought him up last night. Kanto has been so patient and understanding, he deserves some answers. “When I was in my third year of college, I met a man named Tim and we hit it off right away. We dated for about a year when he proposed. He proposed way sooner than I thought he would but I accepted because I believed he was my future. I wanted to build a future with him and give him everything. At one point he had to move away for his job but I was still finishing up school so I couldn’t instantly move with him. It was ok though because I decided that I could finish my teaching credential somewhere else so I could be with him, even if that meant outing my career on hold.” I took a deep breath recounting my past. “I managed to have a long weekend free, so I drove to surprise visit him. I stepped out of the car and instantly knew something was off. When I walked into his house I saw a woman’s clothes scattered about the living room and ripped open, empty condom wrappers on the ground. I then heard a thump from the bedroom, as I got closer I heard moans and through the cracked open door I saw Tim having s*x with another woman.”

This may have happened years ago, but my heart still hurt from the betrayal. Kanto’s eyes studied me sadly, so I kept talking. “ I went to the kitchen, took out a post it note, wrote ‘it’s over’, put the ring on top of it and left the house slamming the door behind me. I haven’t seen or talked to Tim since.”

Kanto pulled me into his arms as I felt my heart beating faster, my thoughts started pouring out of my mouth. “I was willing to give up everything for him, be anything for him. How could he just throw me away like that? I lost myself for a bit. I didn’t understand why all the important men in my life were so willing to abandon me. So I quit dating and wasn’t interested in meeting anyone else.”

I lied there in Kanto’s arm trying to catch my breath, letting the tears I’ve been holding back for years finally fall. Kanto just held me, he didn’t say anything, he let me get everything off my chest. When I calmed down a bit I continued to talked. “At least that’s what I thought. Then I literally ran into a man who has been so kind and patient with me. He lets me be me without making me feel like I need to change. He doesn’t pressure me and supports the decisions I make. I want to give him everything, I want to show him how much I care. I’m just afraid of being hurt again.”

“I’ll never hurt you. I just want you to be happy.” Kanto finally spoke with a gentle smile which quickly changed to a more serious face. “But if I ever meet this Tim guy, I’m ripping his d**k off.”

I burst into laughter, my tears changing from those of hurt to those of joy. “I think you’ll have to wait in line because that was my plan if I ever crossed paths with him again.”

“Skyler, I know you worked so hard to become a teacher. Are you really ok with being Luna? I don’t want to force this on you if you don’t want it.” Kanto hesitantly asked.

I looked into Kanto’s hazel eyes seeing the worry that was there. “I won’t lie, I was very nervous at first and I honestly think there are more qualified candidates. But… I can’t explain it…it just feels right whenever I’m learning about being Luna. And if I am your Luna, I think I can handle it.” I honestly answered. Relief spreading over Kanto’s face.

But then his expression changed again. “Do you mind if I ask one more question?” I titled my head to the side curious as to what he was going to ask me. “You said all the important men in your life were abandoning you. May I ask who was the other one?”

“Oh.” I didn’t think he would catch that. “The other person would be my dad. He was a great dad when I was a kid, but when my mom passed away during child birth along with my baby sister, he changed. He started drinking and avoiding me. We got in a big fight when I was 18, that when I moved here. I haven’t talked to him since.”

“I’m sorry Skyler.” Kanto said as he kissed my forehead.

“It’s ok, I learned to be independent and take care of myself because of it. It made me the person I am today.” I took another breath and let it out while pulling myself closer to Kanto. We lied there in silence. I listened to the sound of his breathing and his heart beat as the sounds lulled me back to sleep.
