Chapter 23

Skyler’s POV “You’re really ok with moving into the pack house so suddenly?” Kanto was surprised and I didn’t blame him, we went from having Colton and Dustin following me to me moving in with him. “Again I have three conditions if you want me to move there.” Kanto eagerly repositioned himself on the couch to actively pay attention to what I was going to say. “First, you have to tell me why you didn’t tell me all of this. Or at least that I was in danger.” Kanto’s head drooped a little. “I didn’t want to overwhelm you. You were already dealing with finding out I was a werewolf and that you are my mate. Then there was when you were attacked. I just didn’t want to add more to your stress than what you although we suffering with.” “I appreciate that you were thinking of my well-being. But this is supposed to be a relationship. Relationships are built on trust and communication, and if we can’t have that then this isn’t a relationship. If you dictate what I can and can not do and when I can or can not do those things, then it’s more like ownership than a partnership. If we are mates like you say we are, then we should be equals in each other’s eyes. You can’t hide things from me or leave me out of decisions that directly involve or impact me.” Kanto nodded in agreement. “This leads to my second condition, from now on you must tell me what’s going on. Even if I don’t ask, I want to know. Maybe I’ll even be able to help, but I want to be apart of this.” “But I don’t want to lose you, what if it’s all too much?” Kanto had a right to be nervous, I did freak out a little bit when he told me we were mates. “Then I’ll tell you when I need an information break or something. But let me judge what I can and can not handle, I’m a lot stronger than you think.” I lifted my noodle arms and tried to flex what little muscle I had. Kanto chuckled at my attempt before flexing his muscles which made my jaw drop. Which made him laugh even more, his smile and laugh made me feel warm inside. “I’m serious though, I’ve been through a lot too. I can take it, so don’t hide stuff from me.” “Alright deal. And the third condition?” His perfectly white smile was still on his face, but his eyebrows were raised in curiosity. “Well this one is a tie, I can’t decide which one to go with.” I made a stumped expression on my face. “I could either ask you to please stay just as you are once we move in together. I’ve noticed people tend to change once they live together. Please try to continue to be you, I like you very much.” Kanto leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on my forehead. Then he said “The other option?” “I want the ice cream that you stashed from our first date.” A goofy smile grew on my face as Kanto roared with laughter. “I’m serious. We put them in your fridge in your office but all we ate were the hot pockets. That would be such a waste of good ice cream.” “How bout I make you a deal? If I can kiss you right now, I’ll bring you the ice cream after the next time I stop by my office.” I didn’t need to answer him because my lips already found his. He deepened the kiss and grabbed the back of my head gentle pressing me on him. I could feel him nibbling at my bottom lip trying to gain access, so I parted my lips and let him explore my mouth. I decided to readjust myself on top of his lap, such that now I was straddling him. This new position must have please him because I heard a low growl vibrate from his chest. I ran my hands through his dark brown hair, playing with the occasional light curl I would find. The butterflies in my stomach were going crazy. I pressed my body against his chest, so I could be on him as much as possible. He moved his hands so now both of them were on my waist. Without thinking I slowly start to grind my hips against him which earned me another growl. I couldn’t help the small smile that grew on my lips. My smile grew bigger when I started to feel something pressing at my entrance through my shorts. There’s nothing I wanted more than to bounce up and down on his shaft, but I reigned myself back in. I slowly stopped grinding on Kanto and began to make our kisses more light. I desperately wanted to continue, but I still wasn’t ready to be marked. When we stopped Kanto didn’t seem angry, he never seemed angry. That fact that he respected my boundaries was such a turn on, it was very annoying for me. Kanto pulled away from our kiss. He ran his hand through my hand until he cupped my cheek, which I leaned into. “Are you sure you’re ok with moving into the pack house this fast? I don’t want to pressure you.” “It’ll be fine. Besides it’s for my protection and it’ll give you some peace of mind.” “You won’t be starting Luna duties right when you get there, but eventually you will and being Luna is a busy job. You can commute to and from your school, but it might be a tough schedule, especially at the beginning. What would you like to do about your job?” Kanto’s voice wavered slightly. “Oh did I not tell you?” Kanto tilted his head to one side. “Yea at that meeting last Thursday, I got fired. So I don’t work at the school anymore.” “What the hell?!?” Kanto’s eyes were squinted with anger. “Why did they fire you?!? You are the most caring and passionate person I’ve ever met.” “I had too many complaints on my record. Actually a parent complained about our very first interaction at the festival and made a huge thing out of it. That plus breaking the window and a lack of funds, I was the one who got the boot.” At first I felt upset about loosing my job, but right now a weird sense of calm made me not as down about it. “It worked out for the best, now I can focus on learning how to be a great Luna. I didn’t think so at first, but I’m actually a little excited now.” “You knew I was Alpha, did you know you would be Luna?” Kanto asked tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “I knew there was an Alpha female, but in the nature documentaries I watched her main job was just to provide offspring and keep the other women in check.” I blurted out without thinking. I immediately blushed at the thought of having a baby with Kanto. I cleared my throat “I didn’t think my role would be that big in your pack but I want to help you as much as possible.” “Well if you ever miss teaching, let me know. I know how passionate you are about it and we do have a school on the pack lands just for pack members.” I perked up a little bit at the thought that my teaching career wasn’t completely over. I got off of Kanto’s lap and started to scurry around my apartment, Kanto just sat there confused. “Well if I’m going to be moving into the pack house I might as well start packing.” I said with a grin. Kanto returned my smile and got up to help me begin to pack. - Saturday went by in a bit of a blur, Kanto and I spent most of the time buying packing supplies, packing and being easily distracted by each other’s company. It turns out I didn’t have much to pack though. He said I could bring my furniture if I’d like or he could store it somewhere, I decided to sell it online so a couple people stopped by throughout the day to pick stuff up. As I packed, I went through and decided to donate old clothes I didn’t wear or couldn’t fit into anymore. When all was said and done, I only had about 3 boxes worth of stuff. Which reminded me of when I first moved out here with practically nothing. Kanto and I decided to spend the night at my apartment one last time. People were coming to pick up the bed on Sunday as well as my old bookshelf. It was weird seeing my room so bare. Before we left Sunday morning, I made sure to check up on Mrs. O’Hara. She greeted me with a smile but glared at Kanto for some reason. She said “You could always come back here and make sure to visit often, dear.” “Of course! And you have my number so call me if you ever need anything.” I gave her one last hug before Kanto and I walked towards the elevator. I turned to Kanto “Why did she glare at you?” A smirk appeared on his face as he wrapped his arms around my waist. “I’m the big bad wolf stealing the beautiful princess away, she worried I might gobble you up.” I blushed in his arms and at the thought of him eating me like a snack as well as how cheesy that line was. I quickly wrapped my arms around Kanto’s neck, popped up on my tippy toes, and gave him a fast kiss on the lips. His arms gripped me tighter so he could continue to kiss me, but unfortunately for him the elevator bell went off to signal we made it to our floor. Kanto groaned as I quickly escaped his grasp and scurried halfway down the hall. “That wasn’t fair.” He fake pouted. “Guess I’ll just have to make up for it later.” I winked at him. I held out my hand, which he grabbed once he made it to me. Then we stepped out of my apartment building for the last time. It was a little bitter sweet, that apartment was the first place I lived in on my own when I left home. I lived there for six years, there were times I struggled to pay rent and others when the neighbors were causing issues but I will cherish the good memories I made there as I start this new chapter of my life. On our way to the car, Kanto got a little sidetracked by his stomach. So we stopped by a breakfast cafe and grabbed a bite to eat before getting into the car. Once my seatbelt clicked, a new wave of anxiety hit me, but I knew where it was coming from. I was about to enter a house full of werewolves. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that this would be my new reality. Not only that, I’m also supposed to be in charge of these unknown werewolves. Me. A human. In charge of a pack of werewolves. I barely know anything about werewolves and I feel guilty that I’m going to have to rely a lot on Kanto when he’s already so busy. He’ll probably be swarmed by people the minute he gets back. Oh no… what if there are a whole bunch of people to greet us when we get there. I look like a hot mess. I’m wearing an old oversized t-shirt and jeans. I barely put makeup on and my hair is in a messy bun. I was so focused on packing and moving stuff that I forgot about dressing nice. This is not what a leader is supposed to look like. My heart started to race as I was panicking, I untied my hair and started messing with it to hopefully look more presentable. Kanto must have caught onto something because he took his right hand off the wheel and placed it on top of my fidgeting hands. “Hey, it’s going to be alright. Everyone is going to be happy to meet you.” He said gently. “When you say everyone… does that mean everyone will be there the minute we get there?” I tried to hide it, but you could hear the anxiousness in my voice. Kanto smiled as he stared at the road. “No, there shouldn’t be. Recently I’ve been having everyone in the pack go to basic training, and so the majority of them should be at the training grounds.” I let out a sigh of relief now knowing that I wasn’t about to be paraded through the pack. Kanto continued “Also my Beta isn’t here. He and his mate had some business they needed to take care of. I want you to meet him first before introducing you to the pack. You will meet my gamma though, he should be the only one waiting for us when we arrive.” “Thank you.” I let out another sigh of relief feeling myself relax. “I thought you might need a moment to adjust and a big crowd doesn’t help. And I want to officially introduce you to the pack when you’re ready. They know you exist and they do know what you look like because of the picture, but we will have a big celebration when we officially introduce you. So no need to worry about today.” I untangled my hand to grab onto Kanto’s. “Thank you for being so understanding. I want to be fully prepared to meet everyone. Also I want to look cuter than my jeans and messy bun.” “You’re always beautiful.” Kanto said with a small chuckle. “Not compared to how I want to look when I official meet the pack.” I put a proud smirk on my face while tilting my chin up. “On that day, I will look like the most beautiful creature to roam this earth. Or at least I’ll try to.” Kanto smiled as we continued to drive down the road. We talked more until I noticed we were deep in the forest outside the city. As I looked around at the beautiful landscape, I saw a small smirk grow onto Kanto’s face. I was about to ask him about it when he swerved off the road. “Um, Kanto I’m pretty sure you have to drive on the road…” I said as I grabbed onto the car handle but he just kept smirking as the car bumped along. The forest started getting more dense. “Seriously Kanto we need to get back onto the road or we’re going to crash.” Again there was no response from Kanto, just the same smirk. Actually there was a response, he started going faster through the woods. I jumped into a car with a psycho. That’s when I saw a cluster of trees in front of us, we were headed straight for it but Kanto wasn’t slowing down. “Kanto we’re going to crash!” I closed my eyes and held my hands around my body to protect myself. There wasn’t a bang or a crash sound, there was no longer any bumpiness from the off road dirt. Did I faint or something? I slowly began to open my eyes. We were still in the forest but we were on a paved road. I slowly moved my arms away from their protective position to make sure we really weren’t going to crash. I shifted my gaze towards Kanto who was obviously trying to hold back a laugh. “Rude.” I lightly shoved his arm which caused him to erupt with laughter. “Sorry I couldn’t resist. There’s a barrier around the pack lands, humans who don’t know about the pack or where it is get a feeling that tells them to go the other way. Also the closer you get the trees seem to get more dense.” He explained once he composed himself. “But now that you know where the pack is, you shouldn’t have that feeling anymore.” “Ok, then all I have to worry about now is how to plot my revenge.” I smirked “They say revenge is a dish best served cold, but I think it would be torture for you if it were hot and steamy.” Kanto’s smile dropped and his face flushed as I let out an evil laugh. “The best part is you don’t know when I’m going to enact my plan.” “That’s not very nice.” Kanto whimpered. “I never promised to be nice. But don’t worry, I’ll make sure to—“ I didn’t finish the sentence as my jaw dropped because I was awestruck at the sight in front of me. The trees cleared to reveal a beautiful town surrounded by the woods. The town was still a whiles away, but the size was impressive. It reminded me of those places I’ve seen on social media. A beautiful town surrounded by trees with the mountain range as the backdrop. I could even make out a lake in the distance. Also towards the back of the village I saw a huge mansion, actually it would be more accurate to call it a castle, that perfectly matched the rest of the town. It was a magical integration of civilization and nature, just looking at it made me feel peaceful. “Welcome to the Silverfang Mountain Pack.” Kanto grabbed my hand and squeezed it gently. I smiled at him excited to explore this new world. “Welcome home, Skyler.”
