CHAPTER9

NIKLAUS Alright, so there I am, in Skylar's office, supposed to be plotting how to take down Mikael Salvador. But instead of focusing, my eyes keep drifting to Crystal. She's out on the training ground, kicking butt like it's nobody's business. And I'm standing there, watching her, wondering why she's got me so hooked. It's like there's something about her that feels familiar, you know? But it doesn't add up. If we'd met before, I'd remember her scent. Yet, every time I see her face, it's like a déjà vu moment smacking me in the face. I try to shake it off, get back to the whole Mikael situation, but Crystal's presence is like a magnet pulling me in. Is there more to this connection? Forget about Mikael, my mind's stuck on Crystal and the mystery she's stirring up. I came down from my office, chilling on the training ground, waiting for everyone to show up like I told them to, at the barracks that I assigned them. It's all part of my master plan, you know? Gotta keep an eye on Matt Salvadore for things to go down the way I want. And hey, it's working like a charm. People start rolling in, clueless about why I called 'em here. I'm loving it, got this smirk on my face 'cause everything's playing out just like I planned. But then, here comes the twist. Matt strolls in, spots Crystal, and flashes her this big smile. Next thing I know, he's putting his hands on her, and man, I feel like my blood's boiling. I can't believe this dude's got the nerve to make a move on her right in front of me. My fists clench, and I'm seething with jealousy and anger. This wasn't part of the plan, and now I gotta figure out how to deal with this new mess Matt's caused. So, here I am, trying to keep my cool while Matt's all over Crystal in that tight training suit, looking fine as hell. Can't help but sneak a peek, you know? But then, something inside me snaps. Maybe it's seeing Matt getting too cozy, or maybe it's just the frustration of it all. Either way, I decided to lay down the law. "Alright, new rule," I announced, loud and clear so everyone hears. "No touching the opposite s*x during training. Period." I can feel the tension in the air as I say it. It's a bold move, but I'm not about to let Matt get away with feeling up about Crystal like she's some kind of prize. Their reactions? Mixed, for sure. But I know I'm doing the right thing. If I'm gonna stay focused on taking down Mikael Salvador, I can't have any distractions – especially not when it comes to Crystal. I don’t know why my wolf was feeling possessive. And hey, I get it. Maybe Matt was touching her when no one was looking, but it's probably because they hadn't opened up their relationship status to the rest of them. Still, that doesn't give him a free pass to be all over her during training. I stood there, trying to keep my cool while watching Matt and Crystal. My wolf side was itching to break free. Every time Crystal smiled at Matt, it was like a trigger for my inner beast. I could feel the rage building up inside me, like I wanted to tear Matt apart for even daring to touch her. The sight of Crystal's smile directed at him just fueled the fire even more, making me feel this fierce need to protect her at all costs. I was torn between my human self, trying to stick to the plan to take down Mikael Salvador, and this primal urge to defend Crystal. But let me tell you, if Matt didn't back off soon, there'd come a point where I wouldn't be able to hold back my wolf side any longer. And when that happened, things were gonna get real messy, real fast. I just couldn't figure it out, you know? Every time I saw Crystal, something inside me started to stir, like my inner wolf was waking up from a nap or something. It didn't make any sense. Sure, she's good-looking and all, but why was my animal side getting all restless whenever she was around? I tried to shrug it off, blame it on the stress of the situation or whatever, but deep down, I knew there was more to it. Maybe it was her scent or the way she carried herself – I couldn't quite put my finger on it. But whatever it was, my wolf's side was itching to break free, ready to jump in and protect her at any moment. And no matter how hard I tried to deny it, I couldn't ignore the primal instincts pulling me towards her like some kind of irresistible force. "Alright, listen up, team!" I declared, taking charge as their trainer. "We're heading back to the barracks for a little challenge. There are only a few beds, so it's going to be a race. The first ones to get there claim 'em, and the rest can either crash on the floor or get creative in the woods and build themselves a bed." The reactions varied among the group. Some looked confused, others frustrated, and a few shot me annoyed glances like it was my fault. But hey, as the one in charge of training, it was my decision. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and I wasn't about to let anything get in the way of their progress – even if it meant some of them had to rough it on the forest floor. Man, what a scene. Some of the pack went all out fighting for beds, others shrugged and took the floor, and a few headed into the woods to grab stuff for makeshift beds. But my eyes were locked on Crystal. She went to bed first, but instead of throwing down for her spot, she just stepped aside without a word as some dude swooped in. I'm gritting my teeth at the blatant unfairness, getting more ticked by the second. And then, to add insult to injury, the guy slaps her on the ass as she walks away. I'm ready to jump in and lay down the law, but she turns around, fists clenched, and then slowly loosens them before walking off. It's like she's swallowing her anger. I feel this protective surge, like I want to step in and show that dude what's what. But I hold back, knowing it won't really fix anything. Instead, I make a mental note to keep a close eye on things, making sure Crystal's okay. As she walks away, I can't help but respect her strength, standing tall even when faced with that kind of disrespect. I watched Crystal walk off, my feet decided to tag along, heading towards the woods without me even realizing I'd left the recruits hanging without any further orders. Lost in my thoughts, I kept moving deeper into the woods, totally focused on finding Crystal. But before I could catch up to her, Marcel, my Beta, grabbed my shoulder and stopped me in my tracks. I turned to see Marcel giving me this look like, "What the heck are you doing?" It snapped me out of my daze real quick. "Oh, uh, just needed some fresh air," I mumbled, feeling pretty embarrassed for zoning out like that. Marcel raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it. "We gotta get back," he said, all serious. "The recruits are waiting for your next move." I nodded, shaking off the Crystal distraction and getting back into alpha mode. With a nod to Marcel, we turned and headed back to the training ground.
