Chapter 15

School is finally getting difficult. My lab work and assignments seem endless but I manage to get it done early. Thankfully, all my professors hand out detailed syllabuses which includes labs and projects and tests and all that jazz. I get all my work done two weeks ahead and spend the rest of my time in bliss. Many, many late nights and headaches earn me a few days stress free. I don't have any friends in my classes so I mostly just talk to Chase or Steph or Julian. Sometimes Brad texts me and we talk about the most random things like movies and stuff. I leave my door open to get some air in as I play on my PS4. PUBG, one of my all time favorites. The sound of gunshots and my teammates yelling to be revived gets cut off when someone lifts my headphones off. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, where's the fire?" I yelled, not looking away from the screen. There's no way I'm not winning this match, hell no. "Dude, I'm tryna get some chicken right now!" "Are you Amelia?" A high pitched voice asked. She sounds annoyed. What right does she have to be annoyed? She came into my dorm and she's disturbing me! "She is I. To whom am I having the immense pleasure of speaking to?" I replied. I throw a smoke grenade and revive the teammate closest to me and then throw another to help the other one. Number four is dead, too bad. We're literally in a house, how in the world did they get downed almost simultaneously? This whole thing reeks of AWM snipers but the sound of the shots fired where too far away for me to tell. "Where are they? Mark their location, goddamn it." I yelled at them. Number one marks a location on the hill a couple hundred meters away. "I'm Britney. So, there's a party I'm hosting and the whole dorm is being invited." The girl said, trailing off. My teammates snigger and ask me if it's time for tea and biscuits. I roll my eyes and work on finding the other team. There's only 7 more people we have to deal with. Aha! I got you! "Boys, watch and learn." I said, leaning out the window. The snake's helmet come in sight and I fire my Kar on his dumbass ass. f**k yes! He's down! I mark his exact location and my teammates finish him off. "If you want, you should come as well." The girl finished her sentence. "But it's a black tie thing so please dress up." She puts a card on the coffee table and literally runs out, her heels clacking away on my floor. What part of a shoe rack next to the door does she not understand? I put the headphones back on and finish this match. "Guys, I'm seriously low on ammo." I told them. "Yeah, what kind?" Number three asked. "M416 and a Kar, what do you think?" I said sarcastically. He drops some for me and I thank him. A dark green thing flies in from the window. "Nade! Nade! Nade! Out of the house!" I yelled at them, jumping out of the window. I see the enemy crouching in the house on the other side of the road and I throw a grenade into his house. He runs out as well so I shoot him in the head. "One enemy left!" Number one said. Number two is suddenly knocked out and I look for the orange mark on my map. The playzone is tiny now, he can't be far away. Behind the house we were just in, probably one of the trees. I pin throw multiple grenades at that area and even some smoke bombs. The playzone will close in on him anyways. He peeks his head out and number one finishes him off. "Chicken dinner babyyyyyyyy!" I cheered. Who got MVP, oh of course, it must be me. 12 kills for me. 5 for number one and 3 for number two. "All hail the PUBG Goddess, Lia12345!" Number two said. "And remember that too." I said proudly. "99.9 rating bitches! Suck on that!" + + + The Channel dress I'm wearing is seriously tight and the heels are pinching my piggy toes. This so called party is being held at some ridiculous gossip girl type venue. I sip on a cocktail while I attempt to be social. "Is that from the new Coach line?" A snobby bleached blonde girl asks the girl who came by my dorm. I don't see why a gorgeous black girl like her has to get blowouts and bleached to fit in with the others. Her hair looks fried from being bleached and burnt by a curling iron. A slightly bigger question is why she's holding a purse during a cocktail party. Is it just to show off or does she actually have an inhaler or epi pen in there? "Yeah, I got it just yesterday." Britney brags. That purse looks like literally any other black one but with office gray C's on it. Let me guess, it was really expensive too. I bite my tongue and take a big swig of my drink. Oh yeah, I'm going to need more of these to get through the night. "Your shoes are so pretty, where did you get them?" Me? I got these as Macy's. "I hardly remember, it's been so long since I got them. But they're my favorite pair." I said, playing it off easily. "I can see why, they make you look so much taller." Britney said, look me up and down in the most belittling way humanly possible. Okay? Is she trying to provoke me or something? "I didn't catch your names? Sorry, I'm a freshman." I said, forcing a smile. "My name is Chloe." The brunette with green contacts said. "That's Latisha and of course, you already know Britney." Why the green contacts I wonder, is she short sighted or is she wearing them to look prettier? With these rich kids, you never know. "I'm Amelia, it's really nice to meet you guys." I said. "What majors are you?" "We're all journalism majors, except for Latisha who's a design major." Britney said, flipping her hair back. Okay? Am I supposed to be impressed? Why does she look so proud of herself? "What major are you?" Should I tell them? Yeah, might as well. "Mechanical Engineering." "Oh." She looks super confused. Does she not know what that is? "Aren't only guys majoring in that?" Chloe asked quietly as if we're talking about He Who Will Not Be Named. "Yeah, all of the other students in my class are guys but I assume that's because the world is sexist and not because women are not capable." I said frankly, grabbing another cocktail from the water who's walking by. "Great! You're a feminist!" Latisha squealed. "Maybe you can help us get some female seats in student council." Why would some journalism and design majors want seats on student council? I'm not looking down on their majors in any way but they don't seem like the political type. Should I ask about that or would it be rude? "How are you guys planning to do that?" I asked instead, now interested in the topic. "Well, first we have to get a petition going and then we need to get votes from the council." Chloe said. That doesn't sound too difficult, it's basically just a popularity contest anyways. "So why do you need help doing that?" "We need a lot of signatures and stuff, plus the council is full of guys who we simply can't talk to!" Why can't you talk to guys? Girls like them must talk to guys all the time. I still don't see how this has anything to do with me. "Okay, so how am I supposed to help?" "Britney was telling us how you were playing some game and we thought maybe you could bond with guys." Latisha said. "Plus, we asked around and you're an honors student with a good scholarship so you have something in common with the students who...you know." Oh, so they think I'm a tomboy. This is what I get for being comfortable in my own dorm, people think I'm a lesbian with a brain now. "So you guys want to convince the poor kids and the boys to join your cause?" I asked incredulously. They have the nerve to actually nod. All of that and they still haven't told me why they want a seat on student council or what they'd do with it. "What does one do on the student council anyways?" "Basically we get a vote in deciding things that involve the student body and we can control where, when and how student events happen." So they want to plan social events and say yay or nay. If you asked me, I think there are more people capable of doing the duties of a council member. More capable women then a bunch of trust fund kids who think they're above the kids who aren't legacies. But the cause does interest me, it is unfair that all the seats are held by male students. "I'll think about it. Just text me a list of everyone who's on the council." "So you will help is?" Chloe asked hopefully. "We'll see."
