Chapter Six

"Babe it's time for devotion" Amina said to me
I quickly checked my time and truthfully it's 4:30 the following morning. I can't believe I didn't sleep a wink last night.
"Amina" I was crying already
"Hey, what's it?" She rushed over to me.
"I didn't get a second of sleep" I cried
She went back to her bed quietly without uttering a word.
"And service follows afterwards. Sorry dear, maybe you should skip for today and sleep for these few minutes"
"And I have a function during service" I said
"Ezra would understand if you skip for today"
"I won't do that, two hours of sleep would do" I said closing my Bible.
Thirty minutes later Amina came back though she was as quite as a church mouse, the light sleeper that I am noticed her every single move.
God. I would always be consistent, I'll always do the right thing at the right and appointed time, I'll stop procrastinating. I prayed silently and an unexpected sniff followed.
"Annie?"
Silence.
"Annie! Fine. Let's both sleep, I forgot you are a light sleeper"
Both of us laid back and that was how I was able to sleep. Two hours later we got up and quickly got ready for service.
"Ezra asked about you after devotion" Amina said to me immediately after service.
Is this lady alright?
"What exactly did he say" I smile
"Amina how's Annie, is she feeling alright? I bet she didn't sleep"
"What was your reply"
"I left her sleeping after crying that she didn't sleep a wink"
"Why would you tell him that" I yelled at her but of course she didn't hear me because she already hurrying towards a group of people waiting for her.
"Annie" someone said behind me
"Hi Ben, happy Sunday. How are you feeling today, sorry I didn't call. I apologise"
"Lol. It's fine no need to apologise" he laughed
"How are you feeling now?"
"I'm feeling much more better. See you later got to do something" he smiled
"Bye" I smiled back
I met with Ezra afterwards and we chatted briefly before I left for the hostel.
For the next few days it was classes and my Bible afterwards. Amina was even complaining of my lack of eating. She said I look thinner and unhealthier due to my inconsistency in eating.
No single soul called me during that entire period of time. Probably my mum heard from mummy V because sometimes I use to think that those four work hand in hand when it comes to me.
Academics was also in my favour. There was no scheduled test or lectures, no assignments or presentations. It was just normal lectures.
Bible study was the only program that got me out of the hostel with the exception of lectures.
"Good evening to us all. How was the study" Amina asked after Bible study that Wednesday.
"We thank God!!"
"Bless the Lord for that. Last week we agreed to answer pending questions and now-" she turned to the wall clock "we have just fifteen minutes remaining and we have seven questions with the exception of today's. How do we do?" she threw
"My suggestion, I think it's best if those that have questions today write down their's too so that it will be added and next week all of us will be present and just do the work of answering the questions" a sister suggested
"Thank you. Next week will be dedicated to answering questions only. Is there anyone with a different suggestion?"
Silence.
"Great. That will be all for today. If you wrote a question try and avail yourself next week. Unfailingly, please" she concluded.
"Why is the girl hiding" Ezra sneaked on me after the closing prayers.
I smiled before turning to face him
"Nothing, just looking for a way to sneak out without drawing too much attention" I explained
"Oh" he laughed
"I've not been seeing you during devotion" he said after some seconds of silence
"Yeah.. I've been very busy but...." I trailed off
"But still"
"I know. I'll change, it's just that I'll be reading and writing and before I know it's morning already so I'll try to catch a two hour sleep. That has been a routine since Saturday"
"Yeah I understand. Stay strong" he smiled
"I will. Thank you" I smiled back.
