SEARCHING FOR MONEY

*** Haoshi Restaurant***

At the busy Haoshi Restaurant Cheng Yao sat down in a corner, washing dishes in the sink. She kept thinking about her life, her face was gloomy and pale.

Ever since the death of her father when she was seven, her mother had tried to see her through school , trying her best to give her quality education. But after she graduated from the University with a degree in computer science, she thought she would repay her mother's efforts with a good life but she was wrong. The only jobs she was able to get was none other than part time jobs which brought only little money.

She was so lost in thoughts that she didn't notice that her phone has been ringing.

" Are you deaf ? or can't you pick up your phone" Ming Yi a waitress in restaurant yelled furiously.

Cheng Yao jerked and said apologetically " I am sorry" " You better be" Ming Yi answered with hatred in her tone.

Cheng Yao picked up her phone and a crying voice spoke out.

" Yao Yao there is trouble your mother fainted and we had to rush her to the hospital, luckily I was nearby" Gu tian Cheng Yao's friend explained.

" My mother,! send me the location of the hospital. I will be there in a few minutes" she answered quickly.

Cheng Yao went to the office of the restaurant owner. She knew she would go through a hard time asking for time off work today. Nevertheless she knocked the door gently and went inside.

"Are you here to ask for a leave again?" Mr fang the owner of Haoshi Restaurant asked Cheng Yao immediately she entered.

" Yes sir, actually I... I...." Cheng Yao stammered not knowing what to say.

" Just leave, I am fed up if you, nowadays you are always asking me to leave early" he concluded.

Immediately he finished talking talking , Cheng Yao ran outside.

" See the display of pure irresponsibility " Mr fang said with a loud hiss.

*** THE HOSPITAL****

At the hospital Cheng Yao ran as fast as she could and went straight to the receptionist.

" Good day auntie" Cheng Yao greeted, panting heavily due to running.

" Good day ma'am, please how can I help you?" . The receptionist answered with a friendly smile.

" Please what ward is the person with the name Mrs Cheng in ? she was admitted about thirty minutes ago" she said tapping her fingers on the desk nervously.

The receptionist checked the computer system and replied" Ward seven on the sixth floor ".

" Okay thanks " Cheng Yao said.

" You are welcome, I am happy to be....." before she could finish Cheng Yao was already gone.

She got to her mother's ward and met Gu tian sitting beside her mother who was unconscious, her heart skipped a beat.

" Tian tian , what is the matter? what did the doctor say? and how did it get to this? " Cheng Yao asked without giving Gu tian a chance to answer.

" Yaoyao you have to take it easy, I went to your mother's stall to pick up some fruits I ordered and as I was leaving she suddenly went unconscious. With the help of some neighbors, I rushed her here " . Gu tian explained with sadness.

" What did the doctor....." before she could finish she was cut off by the doctor's arrival.

" Please I need a word with the patient's family " The doctor demanded.

" You can go ahead sir, I am the patient's daughter ". Cheng Yao said to the doctor, her voice already shaking with fear.

The doctor sighed gently and took off his glasses and put them on again." she's stable for now, but... her blood pressure is too low. Has she been going through a lot lately?

Cheng Yao's heart tightened. She remembered how her mother had been behaving strangely recently, always looking tired.

" She works a lot" Cheng Yao said whispered in a low tone.

" That explains it" the doctor said nodding his head. " We'll keep her under close observation and monitor her for two days. But make sure she gets enough rest.

Cheng Yao swallowed hard, trying to suppress her tears.' Okay doctor I will take care of her.

As the doctor went out, Gu tian placed her hand on Cheng Yao's shoulder and said " Don't worry Yaoyao your mother is strong".

Cheng Yao nodded and smiled but deep inside her she was scared. She went to her mother and sat beside the bed. For a moment, she felt like she could not breathe.

" Mom " she said gently, " please don't scare me like that again"

Cheng Yao stood beside her mother, thinking about the happy moments they had since she was little. She knew her father was a good man but destiny took him away. Even though they were not rich they lived a happy life.

Just then the door opened again, the doctor came in, with a more serious look on his face.

" Miss there is something I need to tell you" he started.

Cheng Yao stood up quickly, her heart beating very fast." What is it doctor?"

He kept quiet for a minute, then said " we ran series of tests and the results came out. Your mother has been diagnosed with cancer".

Her heart skipped, the whole room spinner, she felt tipsy. She tried to open her mouth, but no words came out.

" C.. can.. cancer, my mother has cancer?" she finally managed to whisper.

" Yes we have to start treatment immediately" he concluded.

Gu tian who has been standing quietly went to Cheng Yao and said " Yaoyao...... breathe... you need to be strong for your mother.

But she only cried more, saying" How am I supposed to be strong when I didn't even notice she was sick " .

Gu tian hugged her and said" we are in this together , we would fight with her, you are not alone.

Cheng Yao's expression changed slowly and she said" I will do anything to save her."

She looked at her mother and said" I promise to save you Mom "

The doctor told her" You will need fifty million for the surgery " and then left.

As Cheng Yao walked out of the hospital with Gu tian, thinking of how she would raise money for the surgery, her phone rang. It was an unknown number.

" Hello " she answered tiredly.

" Cheng Yao, you are invited to the party organised by one of my friends which I told you about before. Will you be there?" A female voice spoke at the other end.

" ohh Yiting, it's you. Are you sure the monetization event you mentioned wil be held? she asked quickly.

" Of course, I will send you the location, just be there on Sunday at 8 pm" she said.

" Okay, thanks" she said hanging up the call.

Now she knew she has a way at least where she can raise money for her mother's surgery.

Together with Gu tian she boarded a taxi and headed home.
