Alexa
My heart drops as Chloe walks in.
All attention are on her, everyone gasping as she catwalks her way in with guards behind and her father-Ben Martin beside her.
The same people that were awed by her, frowned as they turn to me, their eyes all laying their disgust. I'm not sure everyone here knows about the Bouchard’s family and the mysterious death of my father, so there is only one reason they are shooting me disgusted stares.
It is the fact that, Chloe is on the same dress as I.
But unlike me, she has more curves, and bigger boobs than I, so the dress hugs her perfect figure, and she walks gracefully with pride to our seat. Her smile slowly fading into disgust as she stops before me.
She fakes a smile bowing to Mr. and Mrs. Bouchard before returning her hard gaze to me.
“That’s mine, go find somewhere else to seat.” She orders, coldness and possesiveness lacing her tone. There are no other chairs around, Ben Martin, has already taken the last free seat, neither do I want to leave this circle, I plan to bring up controversial little talks, to agitate them, the more they get provoked, the closer I am to the truth, but now that is ruined.
I turn to Ethan, he is the only one with a little more chance to stand up for me, but instead he is focused on his phone.
I get to my feet, trying to ignore the glares, and not feel the heavy weight on my shoulders as I make my way to a free table. There is no one there, and it is far behind from Ethan, I am not sure how I am able to document his opinion during any speech or pitching.
My heart aches watching from a distance as Chloe learns and leaves a peck on Ethan’s cheek, she has a wide smile on her face which only makes me boil, don’t get me wrong, I’m not jealous of someone priviledged with a bad attiude who just pretends to be a good person, but Ethan’s acceptance to her affection…regardless of how much I remind myself to be focus, it always affects me. And the fact he knows every she had done to me, yet he proceeded with an engagement with her, even after he promised not to ten years ago...the betrayal sits heavily in my chest.
“Hey, can I seat here?” A calm voice comes from behind, it is deep, though not as deep as Ethan’s. Why should I even compare the two?
I nod in agreement and turn to the one pitching, trying to listen and not turn to Chloe who is so damn clingy with Ethan.
“So you are Ethan’s PA” The blonde haired man that just settled on the seat opposite mine begins speaking, I nod, with no urge to push the conversation further.
“I’m William, you can call me Will.”
“Alexa.” I simply respond.
“Wanna dance together? They are going to have a dance time soon, I don’t have a partner and your boss is busy with his fiancée at the front,”
He finally gains my attention. He has the attractive looks, and his smile is so warm, and his proposal doesn’t seem to have any harm attached to it so I nod in agreement.
And when it comes to dance time, he takes me to the hall center for a dance. For some reason, I feel comfortable with him, perhaps it is his little silly joke, but I have forgotten about Ethan and Chloe and even my revenge for a few minutes, until we twirl to switch partners and I land in Ethan’s arms.
“Aren’t you supposed to be focused on work? Or have you forgotten this is an assessment?” Ethan whispers, with his hands softly placed on my lower back.
“I took notes of the startups and already identified their weakness,” I respond without meeting his gaze.
“That doesn’t mean you can flirt around, this is work hours.”
I frown, finally meeting his gaze and he truly does seem annoyed.
“I’m sorry, it was never written in the handout that I cannot accept a dance, or date someone.” My tone might have been a bit more offensive than I wanted it to be, and I am getting tired, why am I even dancing with a suspect? I should be figuring out who's my father’s killer, and right now everyone is distracted, it’s supposed to be the best time to sneak around.
So I pull his hand away from my waist, or at least I try to, instead he pulls me closer to him by my waist.
“Where do you think you are going to.” He whispers down my neck, and I can feel the chill running down my spine, my heart picking up a race in my chest.
“This is wrong.” Is all I can say.
“Were you affected?”
“By wha-” I can barely finish my words when cold water splashed on my back with full force, the cone sipping into my bones. I gasp and press onto Ethan as though it could change anything, he might have held onto me tight as if to shield me, but with the cold water gliding down my skin, I can barely think about that.
“How could you? Why are you trying to steal him from me?!”
I turn back with wide eyes to Chloe sobbing, her fingers pointed at me and everyone throwing me disgusting stares.
“I knew it, she copied Chloe, she is just like her father, image destroyer”
“She must be trying to destroy the son’s image, since it didn’t work with the father.”
“A goat will always birth it’s kind”
The harsh side talks comes from every side, and I can feel my walls crashing down, it is so hard to keep my head up high. Ethan moves to standing before me, as though he's shielding me from showcasing my raw emotions that was visible with just a look.
“Let’s go, Chloe.”
Oh he isn't even shielding me. That fact crashes me more, my hands begins to tremble and I want nothing but to leave.
“No, not until you promise me, the minute we walk out the exit she is fired, or else I will take it as you having a mistress, Ethan”
At Chloe’s words, I can tell already there’s no way I can win against this, I’m going to be fired.
But right in that moment, my wish comes true.
