Chapter 1__ 3years ago The December cold breeze brushes past me, yet my body feels warm. My vision gets blurry, maybe because I have had more drinks than usual or maybe due to constant crying. I caught my boyfriend of 2 years cheating on me too, with my cousin's sister on our 2nd year anniversary. So much for celebration and eternity. I always know my sister dislikes me deep inside for whatsoever reason and that we don’t have a stable relationship. At first, I thought maybe it was because of our age difference, and she would come around eventually. I mean she’s 7 years younger than me, so I was pretty sure that was it. But her trying to steal my man just to prove a point is really quite a performance she put out there. While I tried my best not to lose my calm in front of him, the second he tried to explain it by saying, “It’s not what it looks like” like any cheater would say after getting caught, I lost all my calm. I could see the regret and a little hint of sadness in his eyes, but I am not going to fall for that again. Expect the unexpected. They say now, looking at my 26 years old I feel nothing but all heart broken and lost again. I always thought he was my night in shining armor and knowing he was cheating on me behind my back makes me feel like I was the dumbest girl for missing all those signs. Those late night stays over at my place, lame excuses for late night work, inviting himself over for dinner almost every night. Guess chaos really does attract chaos. I could see my phone ringing beside me continuously. With a sigh, I picked it up and heard my aunt from the other side: “Where have you been? Are you home? Your sister’s been trying to get a hold on you. From another point of view, it may seem like she must really care a lot, which might be true, but I have always felt like a lost sheep in between their happy family. It takes me a lot of courage to keep up with her energy. Another sigh leaves my mouth:“I’ve just come out for a walk. I will be heading home soon.” I lost my parents when I was young in a car accident and, ever since then, I have been living with my uncle and aunt a.k.a. my mom’s elder sister and her husband. Ever since I lost my parents, I have lost a part of myself deep inside and life has not been the same ever since. I have a cousin's sister who despises me from her core. Although my aunt tries her best to make me feel like I wanted, I have always felt like I have never truly been seen. “Your sister is going crazy because your phone is unreachable at the moment,” I hear her say. I smile at that. Although my aunt is a self-dependent entrepreneur, sometimes I feel like she truly lacks situational awareness. “Don’t worry, I will be home soon.” With that I cut the line. Present Kian Man, I am still recovering from last night's drinking. I hear Cruz say that from behind as he plops himself in his seat. I looked behind him and that man surely looked like he had a rough night. “Can you tone it down, or do you want everyone to hear what happened last night?” I said. It is against college rules to throw parties in college and get drunk, especially when you come from a wealthy, reputed family. Their words are not mine. At that, Cruz grunts, shaking his head like he wants to disagree. “ Like anyone cares, anyway, where’s Kai? That guy has a lot of explanations to give me after he ditched me while I was on the verge of dying for some bimbos like I was his what side chick?? Surely enough, Kai walks inside the classroom with not an ounce of hangover on his face. That man can drink a gallon of beer and still be sober. “Still alive, Ashford?” Kai pats Cruz lightly on his head. Nothing pisses Cruz off more than someone patting him on his head. “ Cut the bulls*** Orlov, and stop patting me on my head like I am some dog." Their banter continued for God knows how long. “I heard you left the party early with Sierra, so are you guys back together” Kai ask causally. I just shake my head at that because that’s not quite a lie. Sierra and I have long-dated in the past, and it’s a very complicated relationship at the moment. I was never serious about her. She knows it and everyone knows how I feel about relationships, yet she keeps coming back to me. At the very moment, the door opens, and a beautiful woman walks inside. Fair, average height, long black hair, black glasses, black heels, red lipstick with a slight curvaceous body that stands out easily and hard to miss. There’s a pindrop silence in the room. I can hear Cruz whistling from behind while Kai just sits back staring straight ahead. The woman finally speaks:” Hi everyone, my name is Luna Ashby and from today I will be teaching you law. Mr. Hasting, your previous professor, is on leave due to a family emergency, so I will be taking your class from now on. I hope together we can learn, socialize and, most importantly, make this course a little challenging and fun at a time.” Nobody says anything for a few seconds, but then everyone starts clapping. She might appear confident up front, but her body language gave away what she’s trying to impose. One thing I have always been good at is reading people’s body language. It works most of the time for me. As I am trying to figure out what she’s trying to say, a certain flashback of those eyes hits my memories, making me wonder where I have seen this woman before. As I was lost in a daze, our eyes locked, and then it clicked to me that I had seen her picture before on one of my brother's albums.
