Chapter 18 - She Belongs to Me

899 Words
Jason’s POV I f****d up. I know I did. If there’s a chance to make this right I know I have to take it. I know she’s working, but I have to see her so I go into the store.  She’s at the counter and she looks really good. I thought she’d look sad or tired, but she’s glowing, being without me is clearly good for her. Why was I such an i***t? I was the cliche ‘you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone’ personified. I thought I was special and enjoyed the attention I was getting from Shona and Cassie, but they were nothing compared to Kristen and now she’d gone.  I'd lost the only good relationship I'd ever had. I join the queue of people she's serving, but I stay back because I need to speak to her without a line of people behind me.  When I see she’s free at last and the final customer in the line has been served and left, I walk nervously up to the counter. I chose to talk to her here because she can’t hang up on me, slam the door in my face or scream at me at work. If I can persuade her to give me an hour after she's finished, I’m sure I can start to redeem myself and I know how much she hates anyone distracting her from her job so I have a small chance of persuading her in exchange for being invisible until her shift ends. “Hey,” I say awkwardly as I walk to the counter. It’s a start. “What do you want?” She sounds really pissed. Ok, so this isn’t going to be as easy as I thought. “I just want to talk,” I keep my voice calm. “There’s nothing to talk about Jason. You’ve moved on and I have too,” she says angrily. “You have?!”  Wait, what?! It’s not even been two weeks! She can’t be serious, can she? I know she’s attractive, but she’s not exactly forward when it comes to men. “Yes, so please leave me alone. We have nothing more to say to each other,” she snaps. Ok. This is not how I imagined this would go, the gravity of the situation is suddenly dawning on me. I’ve really f****d up. “Please Kristen, I’ve been an i***t. I didn’t know what I had until you left.” “Well that’s your loss then,” she says with a shrug. Fuck. I don’t know what else to do and I’m desperate. She’s walking away, but I need that chance to make this right so I grab her wrist to stop her from ending the conversation before I've persuaded her to talk to me properly. “Please baby. Just tell me what to do to make this right.”  I make my voice softer and more vulnerable, maybe if she sees I'm really affected by this, she might break. “Leave, now before I call security,” She says through gritted teeth. I let her go, I’m just making things worse.  I'm going to have to reassess the situation before trying again. “Fine, but I won’t give up. We belong together!” I yell after her as she closes the door behind her. God, I sound like a desperate i***t. Oh wait, I am a desperate i***t. Why the hell did I go after those two girls? Oh because they were easy and I could. Was it worth it? No. I walk out of the store totally dejected and turn the corner when a voice behind me takes me by surprise. “Hey!” I turn and see an absolutely enormous guy, I’m taller than him, but he’s built like a brick wall and has an incredibly powerful presence. The guy looks older than me and scary as hell and like he could kill me with one punch. “Can I help you?” I ask confused. “That beautiful lady you mishandled in there is mine and if I ever see you even look at her again I will kill you. Do you understand? I will kill you without a second thought and no one will ever find your body.” Kristen is dating this guy? What the f**k! “She’s yours? You don’t f*****g own her! We were dating for months until two weeks ago and I know she still cares about me.” Am I completely stupid? Do I have a death wish? “As I’ve just said, you had your chance and she belongs to me now so unless you wish to cut your life short I suggest you stay very f*****g far away from her. Do you understand me?” I know I can’t take him and if Kristen really has moved on it isn’t worth it anyway so I just nod. “Good,” he growls menacingly. He walks over to a stunning dark red Aston Martin and gets inside. Who the f**k is this guy?!  How can he afford a car like that and how did Kristen meet him?  She's just a college girl.  I make a decision to do some digging, he's clearly dangerous and once Kristen sees what he's like she'll come running back to me. Two minutes later I’m still watching from a safe distance as Kristen steps out of the store. The beast gets out of his car and opens her door before getting in the other side. He kisses her briefly and they drive off together. Well s**t.      Author's note:  Two chapters released today - a little bonus for you all!  Please leave me a comment for me, it's my first book on here so I'd love some feedback.  :)
