The buzzing noise that had woken her grew steadily louder and she raised a hand to shield her eyes, straining to see against the rising sun. A group of black shadows made rapid progress down the street, weaving in and out of cars. Every now and then one steered in close to a shambling figure, striking out and sending it flying. Sarah’s eyebrows shot into her hairline in surprise. A shuffling from behind her nearly pulled a squeal from her throat. She violently choked it back as she spun her head to see James behind her. She pointed out to what became recognisable as seven motorbikes, two of which held tandem riders. Sarah watched carefully as they neared.
