Finally deciding that the creature had been alone inside the building, Rebecca let her breath out slowly. Drawing on years of pre-motherhood gym training, she spread her arms along the length of the roof and leant forward. Watching the creature stumble further into the courtyard, she let the distance increase before leaning forward and, like the axe before her, let gravity carry her over the side of the roof and into the glassless window below her. She let go as her knees hooked the frame, holding a whimper in as the remaining glass shards carved shallow fissures into her skin as she fell onto the desk below. A roar from outside alerted her to the fact that her acrobatic prowess had not gone unnoticed by the creature outside and she scrambled backward off the desk as it tripped toward her.
