"Have we met before?", he repeated.
I shook my head fervently. There was no way I was telling him we'd met. "No we haven't", I said quickly as I bolted out of the room leaving him with a confused look.
I just humiliated myself in front of Nathan freaking Lockwood. What was he even doing here, isn't he supposed to be at some football camp?
When I got to my room, Anna was already asleep due to jet lag. I never imagined running into him again, seeing him brought back memories of that night we had together and it kinda sucked that he didn't even remember. He's such an asshole.
My phone rang and 'MOM' was displayed on the screen. I hated when my parents called, they always liked stressing me out and judging my life decisions.
Groaning, I picked up the phone, "hey Mom", I answered.
"Stacey dear how are you?", my mom asked in a cheery voice. Oh no, she always sounded warm when she wanted something.
"I'm good mom, is everything alright with you and Dad?", I asked going straight to the point. There was no need to beat around the bush. Mom never called me to know how I was feeling, she probably would be happy if I wasn't doing great just to prove to me that I made bad decisions and that she was right.
"Can't a mother call her daughter anymore? Why'd you have to ask that question in that manner", she questioned
Rolling my eyes I replied, "I know you mom".
"Anyway, I got a job for you", she stated.
A job for me? What the hell was she talking about.
"I don't understand", I said confused.
"Well, your father and I decided that we needed to step up as your parents and help you gain control of your life. You worked so hard to go to college and law school and wasting all that just for some baking shop is very pathetic", she started. "What I'm saying is that we called that law firm you were going to apply to and pleaded with them to give you a second chance. They were very impressed with your resume and so they gave you the job".
Hearing her say all that made me extremely angry. How could she decide all this on her own without asking for my opinion? This was why I never called, this was the reason I hated talking to my mom. She always tried to prove to me that I was making the worst decision ever just because I didn't want to practice law.
"Why the hell will you do that mom?", I inquired, anger dripping from my voice.
"You watch your tone young lady", she retorted raising her voice.
"No you watch it mother", I screamed. " You have no right to do that, I'm an adult and I decide how I want to live and that includes my job".
She started laughing immediately after I said those words. "You're an adult?", She mocked. "You dropped your whole life to take on some deadbeat bakery with no profit after everything, all the work your father and I put in."
"Law isn't everything mom, I love what I do and it makes me happy. Happiness is all that matters", I tried explaining.
She scoffed, "And you got this silly idea of happiness from your grandma right? That woman is sick and she instilled crap in your head".
"I don't care if you understand or not. You've always hated Grandma but she didn't force me to do anything. I made that decision myself".
"I'm going to email you the contract. Hopefully, you'll wake up from your silly dream and make the right choice", she stated, obviously not listening to all I'd been saying.
"Don't bother", I retorted hanging up.
I gave a loud sigh as I collapsed on the bed and looked up at the ceiling. I wasn't going to allow her spoil my mood, it isn't worth it. Before I knew it I drifted off to sleep.
----------------
"Stacey, wake up", I heard as my body was tapped.
"What's up", I yawned, stretching my hands.
"It's almost twelve", Anna replied
"Shouldn't we start making some preparations?"
She had a point. I got up from the bed and freshened up putting on some new clothes which consisted of a baby blue turtle neck and high waist jeans.
We walked downstairs and Trina caught up with us.
"Did you hear that Nathan Lockwood is here?", She asked excitedly.
"As in the footballer?", Anna inquired.
"Yes, I can't believe Tiffany didn't say a word. Apparently, he's best friends with her fiancee", Trina stated.
"I'm sure she didn't tell you because she knew you wouldn't shut up about it and would probably tell everyone", I joked causing Trina to poke me.
"I can't wait to meet him", Anna and Trina continued to fangirl over him while we walked to the foyer to meet the others.
"Did you meet him?", Trina inquired. "I heard he arrived a few minutes after I left to get those things yesterday".
"Yeah I did", I replied giving a neutral face.
She hit me on my arm," And you didn't think to tell me?"
"I didn't think it was important".
"Everything about Nathan is important. How did he look in person? Hotter right? Wait don't answer that, you don't appreciate his beauty", Trina rambled as we approached Tiffany who was with a man.
Trina hugged her cousin and the man and Tiffany turned to Anna and me, " I guess you guys haven't been introduced, this is my fiancee Derek, Derek these are our chefs Stacey and Anna".
Derek stood up shaking our hands, "It's nice to meet you both".
"Nice to meet you too", Anna and I replied. We sat on the chairs opposite them and Trina left saying she was on the hunt for Nathan.
"Okay, so there's going to be a dinner party on Friday, which is in three days", Tiffany started. " Here is a list of all the dishes to be prepared and a list of the allergies of some of our guests".
I took the paper in my hands and scanned through it. The list wasn't too extravagant but it was going to take some work from us, nothing Anna and I couldn't handle.
"That's fine. We'll need to go and get some of the ingredients", I voiced out, " is there a car we can take?"
"I think all the cars are in use right now", Derek said. "Is your car available babe?", He asked turning to Tiffany. She shook her head, trying to figure out what to do.
Tiffany's eyes focused on something behind, "Nathan", she called out.
I groaned at the sound of his name. Please, please please don't come here. I could hear his footstep as he drew nearer to where we sat.
He got to where we sat and sat comfortably at the chair beside me not before doing a bro handshake with Derek and hugging Tiffany.
"What's up", he asked as he relaxed on his chair. As if he was just noticing me he turned and looked between Anna and me.
"Where are my manners", he exclaimed. "I'm Nathan Lockwood, and you are ?"
As if he needed to introduce himself.
"I'm Anna, I'm a big fan", Anna said wiggling her eyebrows. Never had I seen Anna flirt as much as she was right at this moment.
"And I'm-", I started
"Kitchen girl", he said cutting me off.
Everyone had a look of confusion.
"Kitchen girl?", Tiffany asked looking between Nathan and me.
"Let's just say, she had a little mishap in the kitchen", he chuckled.
"Anyway, since we've all been introduced. Nathan are you with your car?", Tiffany asked looking at Nathan.
"Yeah I am", he drawled.
"Great", she remarked. "Can you please take them to the store to pick up some things for the dinner party?".
I hoped he will say no, but he said...
"Sure, I was about going for a drive anyway", he answered with a smile. "We can go now if you'd like".
"You're a lifesaver", she said to him. Looking at Anna and me, she said," I think that's all sorted?".
"Yes it is", I said with a tight-lipped smile. Anna on the other hand couldn't hold back her joy.
The three of us left Tiffany and Derek and headed for his car.
"So what's your actual name?", Nathan asked as we got comfortable in his sleek range Rover.
"It's Stacey", I answered from beside him, as I was in the front seat.
"It's nice to properly meet you Stacey", he smiled as he drove out of the parking lot.
