Chapter 9

1396 Words
Serena I wasn't surprised that father would hit me. I was just surprised that Kade, the asshole who put me in this situation, would be the one to stop him from doing it again. The pack members were not just surprised over what Kade had said about me, but were equally stunned to find out that their so-called Alpha and father figure, who pretends to be upright in their eyes and wouldn't hurt a fly was actually hitting his 24 years old daughter. It made me feel disgusted and demeaning. I have done everything he ever asked me to. When we were both growing up, Alina and I, she was always a troubled one. She would go to places she urged not to and father had warned us to stay away. She would take his gun and rush into the woods, sometimes in the training ground, and when father found out, he would only take it away from her and scold her, but whenever I broke a cup or didn't sit upright as the teacher instructed, my father whipped me. He wouldn't just scold me, he would equally starve me and other times lock me up in the room. He said he was training me because I was going to be the future Alpha, but I saw that as brutality. Other times, Mom would try to step in, but she could barely do much. Margaret was a good woman even if she wasn't my birth mother. Alina and I, our mother, had passed away. After that, my father married Margaret. She loved us like her kids. She said she didn't want to have children because she didn't want her attention to be divided. Alina doesn't really like her, no matter how many times or how much she pretends. She hasn't said it with her mouth, but I always find her rolling her eyes anytime Margaret instructs us and then leaves to do something else. I equally know that behind the facade that she puts on, there were cracks in that marriage that she didn't want me to find out. Her opinion doesn't matter to my father. He always told her to keep quiet, nothing else. It made me question my father's marriage to my mother and how treated her. He was her mate, no doubt, but Kade is my mate, and yet he blackmails me. “If there's anyone who has a right to hit her, it's not you it's me, but I'm not even doing that, so the next time you try to lay your hands on Serena, remember that she no longer belongs to you,” he pushed him back. That was the first time anyone was standing up for me and, for a moment, I almost smiled at the man who ruined my life, but then it dawned on me that he was no much better bastard than my father. They should be father and son. They will make the perfect pair. “This is between my daughter and I so stay out of it” “Exactly! She is your daughter and not your pet, so you don't have any right to beat her much more in front of everyone. What do you think they're going to say of you?” Kade whispered, sounding like a true hero. “This is all your fault,” he yanked his arm away, breaking free from Kade’s grip. “If only you didn't show up. If only you didn't try to ruin this wedding, then everything would have gone smoothly. She would have been setting off with Julian right now.” “I'll still marry Serena even if she's pregnant. I don't really care. I'll be the father of that child” Julian said startling me, he was ready to father my child but why? It is not as if I knew him from the past. Why was he keen to make this commitment? Was it because he is Kade’s cousin and there seems to be some kind of rivalry between the two brothers. You can't tell me he just fell in love with me at first sight. I don't believe such bullshit. I didn't know anything about him until today. “You heard that. The wedding can still go on, you still get married” My father said, like it was so easy but he had no idea things had gone beyond that. He had no knowledge of the video recording and pictures Kade has about us, if he did I'm pretty sure he would just be giving me away as a souvenir than letting anything taint his name. I looked between my father, Julian and then when my eyes fell on Kade, his gaze grew with intensity as if daring me to make such stupid move and he wouldn't hesitate to give me a taste of my own medicine. This was all Alina's fault, she's the one that conspired to make me somehow wheel up on his bed. If only that treacherous night didn't happen then I wouldn't have crossed paths with these two men. There will be no need for my father to marry me off so quickly like I'm a disgrace. “What are you waiting for? Get them married right now!” My father ordered the priest and somehow somewhere in my heart I was glad this was happening. He was finally revealing his true self to the people. Julian brought out his palms for me to take hold of his hand. “I'm sorry but I cannot marry you, you're a good man Julian and thank you for accepting this child but Kade is the father, and I'm going to go with him” I said. “What nonsense are you talking about? Julian would be the father. Get married!” Father's eyes darkened. “No, I won't. I have already made my choice. I won't marry Julian. You can't force me” I stated. Julian looked at me, studying me, trying to see right through me to figure out why I was accepted to go with Kade rather than get married to him. “If you do this you will no longer be my daughter. No! You will no longer have any ties between us. I will cut you off Serena, not just from the company but permanently from my inheritance and from this Pack. You will be nothing more than a stranger if you go with that man, so for once listen to your father” His words were twisted and it made me furious. How dare he stand there and claim that I am some disobedient brat. “Obedience?” I chuckled, almost frustrated by all of the events that happened today. “That's everything I've given you. Sit down, Serena. I would sit. No, stand up, Serena. I will stand, it's time for you to run Serena, I would run, don't eat Serena, I would starve. It's always about you, father, and I don't argue. But the one time I go ahead and make my decision you try to cut me off. Well, if that is what it will be then so be it” my words made the entire room gasp. They never expected it from me, but I never expected it from my father the most. “I guess we have no use staying here. Come on let us go, Serena and you better remember your words, Alberto. Don't come crawling back when your company starts to fumble.” “Fumble? I never needed her help and I would never” His words shattered my heart more than what Kade had done to me. How could he say that? He was my father. I devoted years to this company even before I started working for him but I guess that doesn't count, only father's words count. I hope someday I will make him eat his words. Turning around my eyes falls on my mother. She wanted to chase after me but that would only mean one thing when she gets back. I shot a smile at her, not bothering to glance at Alina, I walked away with Kade right behind me. His arms circled around my slim waist possessively. “We are going home. You will meet, Valentina.” “Who is that?” I was moved to ask, uncertain why it mattered.
