Chapter 3 Satisfied Now?

683 Words
Randall had never spent a dime on me. But for her, he'd handed over an unlimited black card. My nails dug into my palms. I forced myself to stay calm. I'd already lost the relationship, but I wasn't going to lose my dignity in front of her. The whole deal went quickly. The money went into my account, but it only weighed heavily on my broken heart. I let nothing show on my face. I turned and left sharply. I planned to buy a house first. Then I would start preparing for a divorce. I drove my Cullinan—a car I hardly ever used—to the most expensive property downtown, Royal Residence at Aryndor City. It was a top symbol of power and wealth. The agent said, "Ma'am, these are our newest fifth-generation homes. We have private villas with garages and gardens, plus apartments. Would you like..." I stared at the model and pointed at one spot. "This one." The agent's face changed at once. He rubbed his hands with regret. "I'm terribly sorry. This villa was just reserved verbally a few minutes ago." I looked at him. "I'm the only one here viewing houses. How could someone reserve it just minutes ago?" The agent laughed awkwardly. "The developer just messaged. His friend is getting a place for his girlfriend to rest during her pregnancy. He wanted ocean views and a garden. This has the best view, so it's temporarily held." My heart jolted. A place for his girlfriend to rest during pregnancy? Could it be Randall and Adara? My competitive side flared immediately. "I want this house. I'm sure your boss won't turn down money. I'll pay double. I can pay in full today." I slapped my card down on the desk. The agent looked torn. Anyone who could pay that much in cash was not someone he could afford to upset. He said, "How about I show you something else? I can even give you a discount." "I don't want a discount. I want this house." I refused to back down. Suddenly, a familiar yet strange voice came from behind me. Randall said, "Take it easy, Adara. Be careful with the baby." Adara whined playfully. "Randy, I spent so much of your money today. You're not upset, are you?" His voice turned even gentler. "Of course not. I'd spend every penny if it makes you happy." I used to think Randall would never be generous. Now I saw: strange things really did happen. Adara said, "Randy, that lady is looking at me so meanly." She noticed me and shrank into Randall's arms, acting like I was some kind of scary monster. Randall followed her gaze and saw me. All the softness in his eyes shattered at once. It turned dark and terrible. He would've made a great actor with how fast his face changed. Randall snapped, "Are you following me?" I almost laughed out loud. His face turned dark with anger. He stared at me like I was his enemy. "Stop embarrassing yourself. Go home." I pulled a bank card from my bag and waved it in front of him casually. "I have money. I'm out shopping. Is there a problem?" Adara trembled in his arms, her eyes glistening with tears. "Randy, I spent all that money today to buy your wedding ring from her. She sold it. It hurts me so much. She doesn't care about you at all." The lobby manager hurried over at that moment. He smiled warmly and bowed politely to Randall. "Mr. Scott, you're here. The house is ready for you. We can transfer the title today if you want." The agent who'd helped me stood behind him. He gave me a weak smile and shrugged helplessly. "I want this house." My voice was quiet, but everyone heard it clearly. Randall stared at me. I stared back, refusing to back down. Suddenly, he laughed—a sharp, mocking laugh. He said, "You're only acting like this for money, right? Fine. I'll give you the ten million dollars. I'll buy you another house. Satisfied now?"
