One month before the Community
Bea arrived shortly after dawn, two other twenty-something women in tow. They had a tiny, three-seater electric car, the kind with a ten-thousand-mile range designed for people with nowhere to charge them, which fit in the driveway behind Sara’s old minivan and made it look ridiculous.
Once inside, Sara and Bea embraced and the two new women introduced themselves as Cleo and Priya, roommates from the apartment across the hall from Bea.
Everyone gathered in the kitchen, where people always end up.
The stove was gas-powered, but they hadn’t been able to heat anything up yet because they couldn’t light it. Nick had been looking for matches for the past hour.
“Oh, I have a lighter,” Priya said, when she took stock of the situation.
