It was around 1:30am that a loud continuous ring from the door bell shrieked through the house waking the occupants of the house from their sleep. The housekeeper hurried in panic to get the door. Her heart was beating rapidly as the bell sounded incessantly.
"Open it!" Gage Hudson who just ran down the stairs ordered the housekeeper whose body was trembling in panic.
Behind him was his father, Declan Hudson and his mother Camilla Hudson. "Go inside mother," Gage gestured his mother who wagged her head in disagreement.
"I'm going no where," she descended the stair and stood beside her son. "Open the door Gianna," she spoke in a hushed voice and the housekeeper, slowly opened the door.
"I want to see father!" A young lady ran into the sitting room, her eyes darted in fear and in her arms was a baby wrapped in a shawl.
"Mila," Gage recognized her and she shifted her gaze on them.
Her eyes lit up the moment she saw them and one could notice the glint of satisfaction in her eyes. Her face flushed with excitement, she hurried to Declan Hudson and knelt before him. "Please help me father!"
Declan Hudson gestured on the housekeeper to leave and hastily, she shut the door and left the sitting room.
"Get up Mila," and she quickly stood up, startling the child in her arms who suddenly cried out.
"Sorry sweetie," she slowly rocked the baby and instantly, he was quiet.
"Sit," Declan beckoned on her but she wagged her head.
"I'm sorry for leaving without notice, my life was threatened and I didn't want to cause troubles for this family, so I secretly left."
She was the housekeeper before Mila, she grew up in the Hudson's family house since her mother was the housekeeper, then after her mother's demise, the Hudson's took her in as a staff.
"He wants to take my child from me, he wants to kill him, please help my child," tears streamed down her face as she spoke.
"He said my parents owed him, tricked me to review the agreement, then forced me," she stared at the child in her hands and couldn't stop her tears which flowed nonstop.
"He threatened to kill me if I told the Hudson's, he was always stalking me, then I found I was pregnant." She wiped her eyes with the back of her palm.
"I couldn't face you father, I couldn't bring myself to tell you of my condition, I also didn't want him to know, so I left the city," .
Camilla stared at her in pain, she suddenly disappeared leaving only a note, how could she have known she was going through such?
Declan's expression was deep, his eyes on the child on Mila's hands. Gage wasn't left out, he grew up with Mila, though the daughter of the housekeeper but she was smart, had charisma coupled with elegance.
"I gave birth to my son and few weeks ago, he found me, he knew I had a child, he wants to take my child." She sniffed repeatedly.
"I don't have any other place to run to, than here," she knelt heavily on the floor, startling the child again.
Camilla quickly got up and took the crying child from her, she stared at him tenderly and her eyes teared up.
Mila was a smart child, her mother raised her alone, but she left Mila early in life. Mila refused help from the Hudson's and rather opted to work as a staff. She was hardworking and carried herself with pride.
"Please save my child, that's all I ask," Gage walked over and help her up.
"We will and will save you too,"
"No, " she wagged her head. "He will find me, he's a psycho!! Without the child, I can easily hide from him," she rose to her feet, bowed, then dashed out of the house.
"Send men to follow her," Declan instructed his son who nodded readily, then walked over to his mother and stared intently at the child. "Father, I'll adopt him, he will be my first son, and he will be called Asher,"
Camilla raised her gaze on her son, a broad smile danced on her face. "You're indeed the son of your father, thank you son," then she shifted her gaze on Declan who had a small smile on his face.
"And Asher Hudson he will be called," he walked over to them and tenderly they stared at the new addition to the family.
Two days later, one of the men asked to follow Mila rushed into the house panting heavily. "What is it?" Declan asked
"We found her hung on the tree, she's dead," the man reported while trying to catch his breath.
Declan stared and the man in disbelief, he slowly returned to the sofa and sat down. "How?" He muttered.
"She seemed to know she was followed and kept changing location, by the time we got to her new location, she was already hung on the tree,"
"No!No!" Declan clenched his fist, rose from the sofa and paced round the room. "It's my fault, I shouldn't have sent you to follow her! I caused her fear! She must had thought it was that psycho!!"
He rested his forehead on the wall, his back was rigid. After a while, he turned to face the man. "Return the body to me immediately!!" he would give her a befitting funeral.
"Find that psycho!! I want him dead or alive!!"
"Yes sir," and the man left immediately.
Not quite long Gage returned home, met his parents and siblings in a somber mood, the atmosphere smelt of grief. He glanced at each of them, then approached his sister.
"What happened?" The moment he asked, his sister began to sob sending him to the dept of confusion. He looked at his mother, her eyes were lowered and her hands clasped together.
He looked at his father, his expression was deep and his face contorted. His younger brother had the same expression as his father.
He approached his brother, "Adrian, talk to me,"
Adrian raised his eyes slowly and stared at him, that was when Declan noticed his reddened eyes and swollen face. "It's Mila, Mila is gone, Mila is dead!"
Gage became momentarily paralysed, he stood like a statue as his brain went blank. After a while, he furrowed his brows then stared at his brother. "Which.....who.....whi......ch Mila?" He stuttered and his hands trembled slightly.
"My Mila," Adrian whispered and Gage stared fixedly at his younger brother who had crushed on Mila for a long time.
He was aware of her brothers feelings for Mila and was also aware Mila refused his brother, but despite her refusal, Adrian still loved her.
"Mila is gone?" Gage muttered to himself, slowly turned and with heavy steps headed to the stairs.
The next day, another bad news hit the Hudson's. Mila's body wasn't recovered. By the time the men returned to the place, someone had taken the body away.
