Chapter 4

1110 Words
Ellie stood at the balcony of her bedroom, her gaze on the man who sat unmoving under the heavy rain. Her heart felt like a thousand spear were pushed into it as she watched him get totally wet. She had hidden from him for a week, refused to respond to his messages or see him. She hoped he would understand and move on, but it was obvious he wasn't willing to let go of what they once shared. She heard their voices a while ago, though had no idea what her mother must have told him but heard clearly his last words. "I'll not leave until you see me!!" He indeed had kept to his words, sitting under the heavy rain, not ready to leave. She couldn't bear to watch him again, she wouldn't forgive herself if he got a cold. Quickly, she took a thick coat from her closet, then took an umbrella and hurried down the stairs to the sitting room. "And where do you think you're going to?" Her mother's question halted her. Ellie swallowed hard then turned to face her. "You forced me to leave him, I obeyed, you forced me to ignore him I did!! You forced me to marry that pervert, I've considered that too!!Mom, you will not force me not to see him this night!!" Isabella, stared at her momentarily, them sighed softly. "This is for your good, you should understand," Ellie sneered. "Of course I understand that marrying a pervert will help retain the Wynn's glory." She sized her mother up, then headed to the door. "Return to your room!!" Isabella shrieked, but Ellie didn't stop in her track, nor spare her a glance. Briskly, she barged out of the sitting room. Once outside, she saw him sitting still, his shoulder hunched and his gaze was ahead. Her heart twisted in pain and she hurried to him, draped the coat on him and placed the umbrella above his head. That familiar scent!! Her action pulled him out of his thoughts, he turned briskly and just as he wished, Ellie was standing beside him, her eyes which shone in the dark night were deep with emotions. He stared momentarily at her, then the coat on his body. "I've never wronged you Sweetie!" His sorrow had stolen his voice that his words were just whispers. "Asher please, things aren't as easy as you think," she crouched down beside him, then trailed her hand round his wet body. "You will get a cold, please hurry back home," but his deep eyes stared intently at her, as he tried to discern the truth from her expression. "You still care about me?" he asked brokenly. Ellie averted her gaze as guilt dug deep into her. "I'm helpless in this situation, please understand." If she doesn't marry Cruz, her family might fall into bankruptcy. She shut her eyes to prevent her tears from falling, then slowly opened them after a moment and rose to her feet. There was no point dwelling in what they once had, it would cause more pain to them. It would be better she stood firmly on her decision, swallow all emotions, discard the beautiful memories they had together and accept the new life before her. "Ellie please don't leave me," Asher held her legs but her once solemn expression darkened. "What happened to the promises we made to each other?" His voice had become heavy with emotions. Ellie took quick steps away from him disengaging herself from his grip. "Why are you embarrassing yourself Asher!" Her voice which was soft minutes ago became furious as she faked a sparked temper. "Why should I remain in this deceitful relationship?" She sighed in annoyance and faced away from him. Lines of frown cut across his face, he narrowed his eyes, then wagged his head in confusion. "What deceit? I've been faithful to you these five years," he had never cheated on her with another woman or taken a lustful look on another woman. He stretched his hand to hold her but quickly she shifted away from his grip, leaving his hand hung in the air. "Do I disgust you now?" "Yes, you disgust me Asher! So much!" On the surface, she simmered in anger but within, her heart throbbed violently as the thick blanket of grief suffocated her. Asher nodded, then lowered his head. "I see. So it's because of him?" It's because of Cruz?" Her eye lids trembled but quickly, she regained her composure. How did he know? She didn't want to tell him, not at that moment. "You're silent Ellie, so it's because of my younger brother Cruz?" He looked into her face, hoping she would refute him. "Since you know, why pester me?" She responded furiously And his heart finally collapsed. He had hoped it was all lies, he had hoped Isabella Wynn was lying. "So it's true?" He muttered to himself, his eyes lowered and darting around. "Don't bother me again, it's over between us!!" And she hurried away, into the house. Fortunately, her mother wasn't in the sitting room. She ran to her room, shut the door and released a heart wrenching wail. Her entire body shook as she drowned in her own tears, she gripped her dress tightly and sobbed greatly. Out in the rain was the man she loved but she said those hurtful words to him."I'm sorry Asher, she laid on the floor and rolled herself yet couldn't vent her sorrow. "Cruz!! You're an animal!!" She cursed as she cried. Her nose became sour, her eyes reddened and painful. Her head was beginning to ache and her voice became hoarse. "Asher I'm sorry!!" Asher remained seated on the pavement, the rain had become heavier and the thunder roared loudly. "Ellie," he kept muttering. He didn't know how long he sat there and only jolted to reality when a car honked at him. Slowly, he got up and trudged to his car. With trembling hands, he delved into his pant pockets, took out the car key and unlocked the door. He got into the car, shut the door, turned on the heater and leaned back on the chair. Life wasn't fair to him. He was the eldest son of a billionaire yet despised by many. He was detested by his mother and brother, then abhorred by the one he loved. The images of the good times they shared flooded his head. So it was the end for them, the woman he loved had left him for his own brother. Was it because Cruz was more successful than him? His eyes remained shut as he reminisced about the past.
