Chapter 2

MARGOT The grand ballroom of the Velarde mansion was a dazzling display of opulence, with crystal chandeliers casting a warm glow over the elegantly dressed guests. The air was thick with the scent of expensive perfume and the murmur of polite conversation. My heart felt heavy as I stood there at the edge of the ballroom and watched them. I was dressed in a shimmering gold gown that fitted my figure, my hair styled in loose waves cascading down my back. "Smile, Margot," Cecilia hissed in my ear as she passed by with a glass of champagne. "You don't want to embarrass the family." I forced a smile, my eyes scanning the crowd for any sign of Darius Velarde. He was the heir to the Velarde family, known for his ruthless business tactics and arrogantly cold demeanor. I had only seen him a few times from afar, and I could say he has an aura of an untamable mad dog. As if summoned by my thoughts, the crowd parted, and there he was—Darius. Tall and imposing, he exuded a magnetic yet dangerous aura the same way as the last time I'd seen him. His dark hair was meticulously styled, not a strand out of place, while his tailored suit clung to his powerful frame, exuding authority and control. From across the room, his eyes—cold and calculating—found mine, freezing me in place with their piercing intensity. The tattoo on his neck scares me the most. It felt as if he could see through the layers of my polished exterior, right down to the turmoil brewing inside me. He made his way towards me with purposeful strides, the guests whispering and nodding in approval as he passed. I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. "Margot," he said as he reached me. "You look stunning." "Thank you," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. I could feel the weight of his gaze, as if he were assessing my every move. “What? You believed that?” He smirked, full of sarcasm. “H-Huh?” I was taken aback. Instead of responding, he extended his hand and said, "Shall we?" “Uh, yeah.” I placed mine in his, trying not to flinch at the contact. He led me to the center of the ballroom, where we were to perform the traditional first dance of the newly engaged couple. As the music began, he pulled me close, his hand firm on my waist. I forced myself to look up at him, meeting his piercing gaze. "Damn, I get that your family is insulting me by marrying me off to their illegitimate daughter, but did they have to choose one so ugly?" he remarked. His words sent a chill down my spine. His disdain was palpable, dripping with contempt, making me feel small and utterly exposed. "I-I," no, I shouldn't let his words get through me! “I apologize if my looks didn’t meet your expectations, Darius.” I tried my best to keep my voice steady. "Actually, I don’t have any expectations at all," he replied. “And that's even more disappointing.” I swallowed my saliva. He spun me suddenly with such great force that I lost my balance! But before I fell to the floor, he caught me by my waist while I leaned my back in a curve. A round of applause resonates throughout the whole room. That hurts my spine! I want to complain! Darius gave me a chilling smile. "Words going around that the Ashford family treats you well for an illegitimate daughter should get. People even said you're treated better than the other daughter. But hey, in where I grew up, illegitimate offspring die a tragic death for no reason at all.” He lifted me up, his smiles growing colder. “I won't make things easy for you, Margot. You'll only become my wife on paper; if you want to last long, then never forget your place.” I swallowed hard and quietly nodded, unsure of what else to say. The dance finally ended, and the guests erupted into polite applause once more. Darius released me, and I took a step back, relieved to have a moment to collect myself. The rest of the evening passed in a blur of introductions and small talk, with Darius and my family members always close by, ensuring I didn't step out of line. By the time the party wound down, I was exhausted. I retreated to the guest room of the Velarde’s residence where my family forced me to stay the night. "Oh! Ah! Y-You're going too rough!" I could barely breathe as Darius thrust into me, his body relentless against mine. Each movement sent shockwaves of pleasure and pain coursing through me, and I gasped for air. "Please be gentle! Oh god! Ohh!" I couldn’t believe what was happening. My virginity—gone, taken by the man I was supposed to marry. If it weren’t for the drug, I wouldn’t have felt this unbearable heat coursing through my veins, making me ache for more even as it hurt. How did I end up in this situation? Why was there a bottle of red wine laced with something that made me feel so... desperate? Was this something Darius Velarde, my soon-to-be husband, kept around? How many women had he already seduced with it? "I can't stop now, Margot. You're so gorgeous, my wife." He’s completely different from the dance floor! He told me I'm ugly. Why is he like this now? His words sent a shiver down my spine, but the pleasure—the pleasure was too intense. He was on top of me, his bare body pressing against mine, and all I could do was moan, my body betraying my mind. "Hmm!" My nails dug into his back as he buried himself deeper inside me, the sensation overwhelming. "Ahh!" Tears slid down my cheeks. The pain was sharp when he first entered me. It felt impossible, like there was no way I could take all of him, but there he was, filling me completely. I couldn’t decide if I wanted him to stop or keep going. The pain twisted into something else, something I was starting to crave. "It hurts! Please… please!!" I didn’t even know what I was asking for anymore. Did I want him to stop, or did I want him to keep going until I couldn’t feel anything but pleasure? "My wife," he murmured, his lips brushing my tear-stained cheeks. His body pressed down on me, his chest firm against my soft breasts. "You’ll be fine. Just let me ravish you." My wife. We weren’t even married yet, but he kept calling me that. Why? We were strangers, bound only by a contract neither of us had any say in.
