The bell rings and I can't control this huge smile that spreads across my face. I ease myself out of my seat and grab my book bag. My teacher, Ms. Anderson looks just as happy as I am that the year is over and summer is minutes away. The hallways are extremely crowded with students and teachers wishing each other to have a great summer. Some people are making plans for the summer, others are crying and hugging. I have never been so excited about emptying my locker. I grab all of my belongings and shove them into my book bag. So far everything is going well. I have no one stopping me or delaying my plans. My plan is to simply live a normal life and the first step toward this is graduating, then leaving Regal Moon Pack. When being a part of a pack, you have to get permission to leave. Being a lone wolf or rogue is not an option for me. It can draw too much attention and is very dangerous. A rogue wolf is someone who used to be a part of a pack and was kicked out for something bad or left willingly severing their ties to the pack. Usually, rogues have a really bad odor and, in most cases, they lose control over their wolf, which results in not being able to shift back to human form. Although I want to live a normal human life, I can't ignore the fact that I am a werewolf. Other supernatural beings can and will sense that I am a werewolf. In order for me to stay as safe as possible in avoiding unnecessary confrontations, I will have to be a member of Regal Moon even outside of pack lands. Being a lone wolf is not so bad as being a rogue, because a lone wolf is someone who leaves their pack willingly. The only problem with this is that I would not be able to come and see my mom as much as I would like. Also, if someone was to know that I was a lone wolf without a pack, I could easily be a target for others to kidnap me or try and hurt me for whatever reason they have. The world is crazy and I am too smart to present myself as a target for anyone. I've heard that some pack cultures are stuck way back to traditions we used to uphold years ago. For instance, some force the mate bond on people even if the woman has a whole life started before meeting their fated mate. Once you meet your fated mate and are able to sense them, you have to forget about whatever relationships you have and be with your fated. In most cases, the female goes with the male to whichever pack the male is a part of and you take on the rank of the male status in the pack unless the female is an Alpha. So, if your fated mate is the beta male of the pack, then you are the beta female, gamma, delta, and so on. The Alpha of a pack has a Luna. The correct term for an alpha mate is luna. In my case, being my father's only child, I already have an alpha title. A lot of our enemies believe in chosen mates over fated mates because they don't believe in the moon goddess and that is the main reason I will stay a part of a pack. The council governs all pack members' rights but does not get involved with rogues or lone wolves. So if I was to get kidnapped by a rogue or another pack, they would call out to the royal pack to rescue me. The reason the council does not meddle with lone wolves is that it is frowned upon to leave your pack and considered selfish and a sign of disrespect to werewolf culture, but it is your right to leave if you want to. The consequence of this is that the council and all the packs will not meddle in whatever dangers that may come upon you or support your success living without a pack.
I put my shades on my face and a black hat to match as I made my way out of the school entrance. "Thank you, moon goddess," I mumbled to myself as I reached for my car door. This is too good to be true. I started to smile again. "Not so fast! Wait up Renee!" a deep voice yells from behind me. My right foot stops mid-air and I hesitantly slam it down onto the ground. I slowly turned around and just as I expected, Joseph was walking up to me. Joseph would have been my Beta in the Midnight Pack, had life not been so cruel. " I know exactly why you're here, Joseph, and I will tell you for the millionth time that I have no desire to make any plans on rebuilding the Midnight Pack, so just let it go and find your way here in Regal Moon, hell if you want it so bad you can go to the elders or council and -" "Renee!" Joseph cuts me off "Just hear me out" I roll my eyes and give him my full attention "Ok I'm listening," I say as I tap my foot and glance at my watch. These wolves should know that there is nothing they can say to change my mind. I feel a little guilty because I do feel responsible for them. I'm not the girl that I used to be and I'm pretty sure they have noticed. There are almost 100 of us out of 1000 pack members that survived that brutal m******e 4 years ago here at Regal Moon. I know a few others survived and went to some of their mother packs because they reached out over the years. They all want to check up on their Luna, which is my mom and me, of course, because I would have been their future Alpha and Luna technically.
