As we finish our breakfast, the thrill of the day ahead fills the air. Tessa, Nia, and Arabella can hardly contain their excitement about the prospect of meeting Prince Zahir. I can’t help but smile at their enthusiasm, even as my thoughts drift back to Malik. The contrast between the two men in my mind is stark; Malik’s charm feels genuine, while the prince seems like a figure out of a storybook. But I’m determined to keep an open mind.
“Let’s make our way to the pool!” Tessa exclaims, practically bouncing in her seat. “I can’t believe Prince Zahir might actually be there. This is our chance!”
I nod, caught up in the infectious energy of my friends. As we step out into the sun, the warmth envelops us, and I take a deep breath, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. The pool area is an oasis of luxury, with shimmering water and plush sunbeds lining the edges. The sound of laughter and splashes fills the air, creating a lively backdrop.
Arabella leads the charge toward the pool, her eyes scanning the area for any sign of the prince. Tessa and Nia follow closely, whispering excitedly about their plans to catch his attention. I trail behind, feeling a little out of place but eager to support my friends.
“Look!” Arabella suddenly squeals, pointing dramatically. “There he is.”
I follow her gaze and, sure enough, there’s Prince Zahir, lounging by the pool with a relaxed demeanor that is both captivating and magnetic. He’s a real life fairytale prince… tall, with a confident posture, his dark hair tousled just so, and his smile is dazzling. He has an air of charisma that draws people in, and I can see why my friends are so excited.
“Wow, he’s even more handsome in the sunlight,” Nia breathes, her eyes wide with awe.
As they rush toward the prince, I feel a twinge of hesitation. Sure, he’s handsome, but he doesn’t hold a candle to Malik. There’s a warmth and authenticity in Malik’s presence that I find myself craving. Instead of joining the throng around the prince, I decide to stake my claim on a sunbed, pulling out the book I brought along.
I sink into the cushions, the sun warming my skin as I open the book to a random page. The words blur together as my thoughts drift back to Malik and the sweet moments we shared. I can’t help but smile at the memory of him kissing my hand, that simple gesture making my heart flutter.
Just as I start to lose myself in the pages, a shadow falls over me. I look up, squinting against the sun, and my breath catches in my throat. Standing before me is Prince Zahir himself, his charming smile directed right at me.
“Is this seat taken?” he asks, his voice smooth and inviting.
I blink, momentarily stunned. “Uh, no… not at all,” I manage to stammer, feeling a rush of heat creep up my cheeks.
He settles down on the edge of the sunbed, close enough that I can catch a hint of his cologne..: a mix of citrus and something warm. “I couldn’t help but notice you sitting here, so engrossed in your book. What are you reading?” His tone is casual, yet there’s an earnestness in his eyes that makes me feel at ease.
“It’s just a novel,” I reply, holding up the cover for him to see. “Something light and fun. I needed a break from the excitement.”
He leans in slightly, intrigued. “I believe a good book is one of the best ways to escape reality. What’s it about?”
I find myself relaxing under his gaze, enjoying the conversation. “It’s a romantic adventure… lots of twists and turns, and of course, a handsome hero.”
His eyes sparkle with mischief. “Ah, so you’re a fan of heroes, are you? What makes a hero in your eyes?”
I hesitate, contemplating my answer. “I think a true hero is someone who is brave even when scared, kind, and doesn’t shy away from challenges. Someone who knows how to care for others.”
He nods thoughtfully, a smile playing on his lips. “That’s a noble definition. I must say, it’s refreshing to meet someone who seems to value character over status.”
I can’t help but laugh lightly, the warmth of his presence making me forget about my initial nerves. “Well, I suppose it’s easy to get caught up in titles and appearances, but I’ve always believed that what’s inside matters most.”
He leans back slightly, maintaining eye contact. “You have a wise perspective, Charlie. I like the way you see things… I also like that you are about the only one who did not tey to get my attention.”
My heart gives a little flutter at his compliment, and I can’t help but feel flattered. “Thank you, Your Highness. But I’m just me. I’m not really used to this kind of attention.”
“Please, just call me Zahir,” he insists, his smile warm and inviting. “Titles can be so formal. I prefer genuine connections.”
A spark of intrigue ignites within me, and I find myself enjoying our conversation. He asks about my stay, what I think of the resort, and I find myself sharing little anecdotes, laughing at the silly things that have happened since we arrived.
In the midst of our chat, I glance over at my friends, who are splashing around in the pool. For a moment, I feel a twinge of guilt… should I be joining them? But as I turn back to Zahir, I realize that this moment is just as special, if not more so.
“Are you enjoying your time here?” he asks, his expression earnest.
I nod, a genuine smile spreading across my face. “It’s been amazing. I’m here with friends, exploring new experiences, and just soaking it all in. I didn’t expect to have a prince chatting with me, though.”
He chuckles, the sound rich and warm. “Well, I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself. This place is more than just a luxurious resort; it’s about making memories. Tell me, what’s been the highlight of your stay so far?”
I think for a moment, the memory of Malik’s sweet gesture popping into my mind. “Honestly? I think it was either being outside the resort last night… or the breakfast this morning. Someone set up a beautiful table for is, and it felt so special. It reminded me that sometimes the simplest moments can be the most memorable.”
Zahir nods, his eyes thoughtful. “That’s a beautiful sentiment. I believe it’s the little things in life that often leave the biggest impact.” He leans a little closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial tone. “I have a feeling you’re going to have many more memorable moments during your stay.”
I smile, feeling a flutter in my stomach, thinking about seeing Malik again. There’s something disarming about the prince, a lightness that makes me feel at ease. But as I glance back toward the pool, the laughter of my friends mixed with the allure of Prince Zahir’s charm makes me wonder… can I embrace this moment while still holding on to the connection I feel with Malik?
“Maybe,” I say, my voice playful yet sincere. “But I think I have my own charming hero already.”
Zahir raises an eyebrow, intrigued. “Oh? Is that so? Care to share more about this hero of yours?”
I smile, feeling the magic of the moment. “Maybe another time. I think I’d like to keep some mystery.”
He chuckles, clearly enjoying the banter. “I like a challenge. I’ll hold you to that, Charlie.”
