Chapter Twenty-Nine
Rain pelted the leaded windowpanes of Victor’s study. Victor and Nadia were sitting on the sofa with their stocking-clad feet extended to a blazing fire. Nadia sipped a glass of Merlot and gazed into the fireplace.
“Darling, when I put Ariel to bed tonight, she begged me to ask you about Astrid. She misses her terribly.”
“I can see where this is going. We have had this conversation before. Initially, it was to be both girls, but then Astrid’s father decided to keep her at home. I will ask you one more time. Do you really want to take charge of two eighteen year olds?”
