Chapter 6 The Royal Guard

Liam´s POV

The alarm goes off at the head quarters right after our team’s last patrol of the grounds of the Academy. We all run down in full gear; Chloe is wearing out training gear since she isn´t a Royal Guard. We are met by Commander Leo who doesn´t look to happy about being woken up at the 11.30 pm by the alarm that means that a pack need our help.

“Here is what we know so fare: The Crest Fort pack have been attacked by a huge pack of Rogues. The Luna believe it is the work of Cassius Wright. Since she is one of the few who is still alive to know what the man looks like the council is taking this very seriously and therefore, we have been ordered to help the pack and the packs around them to secure their borders. We are being assisted by the vampire teams as well as the warlock teams. We don´t know what he is cable of and what he is up to. So be alert, awake and alive! We leave in 15 minutes!” Commander Leo yells.

We all quickly get to work. Leo approaches us: “Chloe has been given the green light to join us on this mission. The council believe she might be of great use in case Cassius comes back. Let´s just hope that won´t happen!” He nods towards Chloe who is helping a vampire load up a lot of supplies in a huge van. The vampire looks at her with admiration as she hands him another package. He puts it away and she hands him another one while the chat away. You wouldn´t know that she is having a possible death sentence hanging over her head. Like she is carefree and only see the positive in everything.

The leader of the vampires approaches me. “I can´t believe you guys doesn´t allow her to join just because she is a woman! She is an awesome fighter, and no one will ever be able to take that away from her. How is she holding up with everything that´s going on?” He looks at me and brothers. We shrug and starts loading another wan with goods. He helps us as we are all silent. Not sure what to expect everyone is uneasy about the situation we are about to face.

After a few hours on the road, we are approaching the borders of the Crest Fort territory, the surroundings pack have already sent out some of their fighters and other helpers to make sure the pack is safe from another attack while their own warriors can heal and recover just in case the rogues come back. Our own pack have sent 12 warriors and they recognize us and come over to us. “Hi great to see you guys!” we give them high fives and one of them is looking around searching for Chloe. “Pphhhsst up here!” She yells down from the tree above us. He looks up and a huge smile is on his face. “Awesome to have you here as well, Chloe!” He smiles as he shakes his head. I recognize him as the one of trainers at our own pack. His wife has always had a sweet spot for Chloe. Her and our mother were best friends, now their daughter and Chloe are best friends as well. I pad him on his back as we all walk towards the pack house to meet the young Alpha.

Xander is looking pale as he sees us. His Beta and Gemma is by his side. That´s a great sign that they already have that kind of bond even in a time like this. Commander Leo introduce us and one leader at the time we approach them, shale their hands. He has a great grip and the two others have as well. A good sign of strength. He seems to recognize me and ask if I am from the Summer Ville Pack. I nod, and he smiles faintly. He is exhausted and his pack needs him to step up while his father is down for the count at the moment.

We set out to make sure the fences are restored and set up camaras to surveil the areas as an extra precaution. The vampires and the warlocks are of great help. They have found evidence that support the theory that it is Cassius who is behind the attack. They find ways in and out of the territory that we will never have thought off. Chloe has also proven herself of being worthy of being here. She has seen signs that the pack have been under surveillance themselves using drones. She helps set up an electrical current to jam the fee from a drone.

The leader of the warlocks looks at me and the leaders of the vampires: “I wonder how many packs, coven etc. he has been keeping an eye on? And why?” By he, he means Cassius. We both look at him all wondering the same thing. “How come he has never been caught? I mean he is one of meanest and vicious assassin around. After the attack on the packs of werewolves and bears, coven and families nearly 20 years ago he got banished by the council, so how come he hasn´t been caught or killed yet? And why is he back now?” The leader of the Vampire asks. I sign as I have no clue like the rest of the guards here are all wondering the same thing: Why now.

The rest of the day goes by without any incident and by nightfall my team can finally get some rest. We haven´t slept since yesterday morning. And then we only had 3 hours of sleep due to a night course and a team that got injured so we covered their patrol of the grounds early in the morning. We sleep in tents near the houses of the pack. A tiny boy comes out of one of the houses crying. He can´t find his mother or his father. We quickly locate his parents. Thankfully they are both alright. The female is drying his tears as the father thanks us. They are both omegas, who are in charge of making sure we are all taken good care off. I look at the other team leaders and a silent agreement is made. “You don´t have to, we are here to make sure you are all safe and taken well off. Alright? We will not be a burden to you or any other pack member. We are here to help, okay?” They both nods in gratitude since taking care of 50+ warriors are a huge task to put only a couple omegas in charge off. I know the pack is in shock and that things have been really crazy, so having them to care for us is not a task they should need to focus on right now.

We all go to bed. Chloe comes down from the trees where she has spent most of her day. She quickly walks into the tent we all share. Being siblings, we are used to share rooms. I pull off my t-shirts and let it drop to the floor and soon we are all in our beds. Chloe suddenly starts to laugh without any reason. We all look at her: “Do you guys remember when we went camping with grandma and grandpa and the storm hit us without warning? How grandma was angry with grandpa for making her sleep on top of him so we all could fit into the tent?” She giggles out loud and suddenly we all start laughing of the sweet memories of that night. It gave us a relief laughing like this. Typical my sister to make us think of that funny night in a storm.

Xander´s POV

I need to go for a walk. Meeting Chloe´s older brothers like this have gotten my head spinning. “What if she is here with them right now? What if she is already home at the grandparent’s cottage? What if Cassius will try to attack them and she gets hurt or worse killed?” I am all in my head when I notice one of my former girlfriends. She is naked in the pond that lies in the forest near the borders. She is beautiful and knows it. She knows how to get every guy she wants including me. One of the few women I have had s*x with multiple times. She knows what I like and how to get me.

My wolf growls inside my head: “Our mate might be around, and you are thinking about this w***e? What is wrong with you?!” He yells at me. I can´t help myself. I can´t help staring at her. The brother signs as Chloe takes off with tears streaming down her cheeks. I look after my mate but can´t see her anywhere. Her brother looks at me like he could kill me with his bare hands. He then turns around and follow her.

Hunter´s POV

It´s midnight when I am woken up by Chloe´s quick movement. I watch her as she gets up and sniffles the air. I recognize the sign immediately. It´s her 18th birthday and she can smell her mate. “WOW how awesome!” I think to myself. “Oh, how could we have forgotten her birthday!” I quickly get up and joins her at the entrance of our tent. She looks confused at me. “Mate?” Sha askes. I smile. “Yes, you can smell him now. Come on let´s go find him or her?” I quickly open the tent and we walk out into the fresh air. She sniffs the air again and starts to walk towards the forest. I follow and don´t say anything. We get to a clearing in the forest where there is a pond.

At first, I can´t see anyone but then my sister stops straight in her track and her body gets tense. I follow her glace as it lands on a female being face down as a man pounder into her from behind. I recognize the man as the young Alpha of the pack we are helping. I don´t recognize the female though. I look at my sister to figure out if it´s the sight that got her tense or… no. Please no. My heart sinks as I watch my sister’s heart being broken by the sight her mate having s*x with someone else. Him being older than her which means he knows that she is his mate if they have met that is. I turn and look at them. He sniffles the air and turn to face us. I can tell by his facial expression that he knows that she is his mate. He knew and still have s*x with another woman? “What is wrong with this dude? He doesn´t deserve her!” My wolf says angrily. I sign as I turn to Chloe. But she is nowhere to be found.

“What a birthday gift” I think to myself. “How am I going to explain this to the others? OMG What about Chloe? How am I going to fix this? How can I help her with a broken heart? Your mate isn´t suppose to break your heart. They are supposed to be yours forever, be your only one.” I feel my heart getting heavy and filled with sadness. “No one deserves that!” I say in a whispering voice. I sniffle the air and find my own smell. I smile. Chloe has taken one of my t-shirts on. I slowly walk towards the smell and find her sitting on a rock away from the forest and everybody else. I can tell she is crying. I walk over to her and just hold her tight. She buries her head in my chest and cries for a while. I just hold her and let her cry all that she wants. She needs to let it all out before she must face her mate.

I notice him coming from behind a tree. He stands still and just listens to his mate crying. I can tell something is wrong. His wolf is weak. It is weak because of what he did. I don´t really know what to do at this point. I know by his expression that he is hurting too. But this is my sister and I really don´t care about him being an Alpha. If he as much as touches her in a wring way I will kill him with my bare hands. I can feel the rage build up inside of me. Chloe looks at me with teary eyes: “It isn´t your fault. I guess I wasn´t meant to get a loving and caring mate. I am not meant to have a happy ending!” She signs as she lays her head against my chest. My heart is in shatters by her words. I look at Xander with hate in my eyes.
