Jaxon was devastated that our plan to get out wasn't going too well so far, I could tell. He would never admit it, he was the original tough guy, but I knew it was true. I knew he felt guilty for what he saw as his failure to immediately fix the situation, and I didn't want him to. It wasn't his fault at all. He had tried, and had hit a brick wall, but that brick wall was a temporary obstacle. It wasn't going to keep us from accomplishing our goal. I just needed to show him that.
"Hey baby, it's okay," I told him, and gave him a soft kiss on the mouth. "Think about it this way. You didn't become King of the Underworld overnight, am I right?" I actually saw him pause to think about my question, and I had to stifle a laugh.
"Of course not," he replied, obviously not understanding
