Cordelia woke up on her parents' couch the next morning. Stretching, she yawned and tumbled off the couch onto her feet. Luckily she didn't have classes in the normal human college that day so she got to sleep in. "Well morning sleepy head." Her father smiled as she walked into the kitchen. He was cooking something delicious because when she entered, there were good smells in there. "What are you cooking, dad?" She asked him as she stood next to him. "Eggs and sausage. The eggs have some vegetables the pack has grown and cheese in it. Hope you're hungry. I made a lot."
Cordelia nodded quickly and grabbed three plates. One for her and the other two for her parents. "It's just us this morning, sweetie. Mom went to the pack house for an urgent meeting. Not sure what. But the alpha called the house early this morning, asking for her to come down right away. She made some cereal for herself, ate, then left." Her father told her softly. Cordelia deflated and put back the plate.
As beta, her mother was always running around trying to help the alpha with things. She wished she had more time with her mother. But she knew her mother had to do some things and just needed to be away from home every once in a while. She didn't really mind that her mother was gone a lot. She had grown fairly used to it. But she just wished sometimes she could've had that mother daughter time that most mothers and daughters had. But she also liked hanging with just her dad.
Her dad scooped some food on the plates. "There you go, Delia." He said as she picked up a plate and started eating. "If you could guess, what do you think the urgent meeting mom got called in for was about?" Cordelia asked as she spooned some eggs in her mouth. Her dad shrugged and bit into a sausage, chewing it and swallowing it before giving her an answer. "Probably just some information about another pack being under attack. There's been a lot of attacks to different packs recently and so close together. I'm guessing they're talking about how to keep this pack away from the danger. But I wouldn't worry about it, Delia. If anything happened, we have a good army that would protect us."
Just then, her mother waltzed into the house and into the kitchen. "Good morning, mom." Cordelia beamed at her mother. "Wish I could say the same, sweet girl. But the alpha ordered us to be on high alert. He got word that there's a good chance West Forest was on their way here to attack. We're hoping that it won't happen but every warrior has surrounded the perimeter just in case."
That sent electricity down Cordelia's spine. Why would West Forest want to attack us? What did we do? She thought to herself. But she just shrugged like she didn't just have that thought. "Well, let's hope that, that doesn't happen. I'd like everyone in our pack to be safe and live." She sighed and shoved a piece of sausage into her mouth. Her mother nodded in agreement. "I feel the same way, sweetie. But I'm not so sure. The alpha was really worried and was trying to get us to move everyone out of the pack location and find another location, away from West Forest. But I told him that it wasn't that easy. We have almost a thousand people in the pack and to move that many people on short notice and not to a destined place would be hard in just one morning."
Electricity went down Cordelia's spine again and she shuttered. She really didn't anyone in the pack dead or harmed in anyway. She wanted to help the alpha move everyone out and to somewhere new. But she had to agree with her mother. In this short of a notice and not even sure where to move everyone, would actually be nearly impossible.
"Well I wouldn't be too worried, mom. I think we'll be safe." Cordelia said. But two seconds later a siren went off. "What's that?" Cordelia asked nervously as she set her plate, which still had half of the food on it, down. "Someone invaded our perimeter." Her mother said and headed for the door. "But... But how? Her father asked, following her. Cordelia tried following but her parents stopped her. "Don't go out there, Delia. We don't want you hurt or taken." Her mother said and her father closed the door behind them.
Cordelia wasn't just going to sit in a house and wait for her parents to come back. If she knew anything about this stuff, her parents could be easily taken or be killed. So she went against her mother's orders and opened the door. Her parents stood ten feet in front of the house, paralyzed with fear and so was Cordelia.
Already there were people being taken and killed. Cordelia recognized that some of the warriors from their pack, obviously in wolf form, were trying to fight off unknown wolves and trying to save everyone else. "Dells!!" Lowell called out and pulled her out of her trance. "We have to get you out of here." He told her and started tugging on her arm. But she couldn't move except for her head to look at Lowell. She could see dried tears on his face. "Where's... Where's Anna?" She asked but Lowell couldn't speak as his breath hitched and she could tell he was gonna start crying soon. "I'm sorry.. I couldn't.. when I got to her house.. she's dead, Dells." The tears streamed down his face.
Cordelia's heart ripped in two. "No. Not, Anna. You're pulling my leg." Cordelia laughed but she started crying a few seconds later when she realized that he was serious. "Lowell. Get Cordelia away from here." Her father said as both him and her mother ran towards the pack house. "I hate do to this but I have no other choice." Lowell picked Cordelia up and threw her over his shoulder and he started running away from the pack. Cordelia didn't even try to fight his grip. She just let him carry her away.
Watching her pack, her friends, get killed or captured was the worst sight Cordelia saw. But she couldn't look away. She kept watching until two large men came into view, blocking her view of her pack. "You two! Stop right now!" One man called as they approached Lowell and Cordelia.
Lowell set Cordelia down and she started running along side him until they saw a fork up ahead. "You go one way. I'll go the other. Run. Don't let them catch you!" Lowell told Cordelia. She glared at him. "No! I can't loose someone else!" She started tearing up. "I'll be fine. We'll meet up soon. Don't worry." He gave her one last wink before they split their separate ways, one guy following Lowell, the other following Cordelia.
Cordelia made a sharp turn and hid in a bush as the man went by. She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding when she was sure he was gone.
When she moved to get up she froze when she heard footsteps. "Are you sure two of the pack members this way?" A deep, husky voice asked. "Positive, alpha." A woman's voice said. "I mind linked Frank. He told me he followed the male one way and that George followed the girl this way." She told the man. "I'll go find George and help him find the girl. I know Amanda followed Frank to go find the man."
Cordelia quickly ducked down, being careful not to make any noise whatsoever. "Go now. I'll wait for the both of you here with the girl." The man said. And with that, there were footsteps leaving the area.
Cordelia peered at the bottom of the bush to see a pair of legs walking over to the tree next to the bush then sit down. She had to stop herself from gasping at the sight in front of her. He was muscular, olive colored skin, black hair, and from the one eye she saw from the side, he had honey colored eyes. But he couldn't tell she was there. Maybe I can get away. He won't notice. Will he?
While crouching, she took a hesitant step back. Only to hear something crunch under her foot. The man's head snapped over in her direction. "Crap..." Cordelia muttered almost inaudibly. "Who's there?" The man lowly hissed and got up. Cordelia didn't move.
He knelt down in front of the bush. "You're hiding. There's no need to. Come on. I won't bite... hard." He smirked.
That smirk. That damned smirk. It made her heart pound with lust and love.
The man pushed back the bush concealing her and moved his face so close to hers that she could smell his cologne running off him and with just moving an inch forward, their lips would be smashed together.
"Mine." He growled. She shook her head. She didn't want to be his. She didn't want him to be hers. But how could she turn down her mate?
Cordelia whimpered and turned her head away from him, not wanting to look at him any longer. "Please..." She whimpered, trying to scoot away. But she felt a hand on her ankle and she was dragged out into the open. "Please... Don't hurt me." Cordelia pleaded. There was a load roar of laughter from above her. "Don't worry. I won't. Not too hard at least."
That was Cordelia's chance to run away. She kicked him where the sun didn't shine and sprinted off the way she came, back to her pack. She thought if she could at least get back there, she could find someone who'd help her get away from the monster.
But a pair of arms wrapped around her waist. Screaming, she thrashed in the pair of arms, trying to free herself. She kicked and tried scratching her captors arms but they only wound around her tighter. "Let me go, you evil, wicked, cruel creature! You're the one who's attacking my pack! Let me go!!"
But after about ten minutes of her being carried off to who knows where, she stopped. "That's a good girl." He purred into her ear.
Cordelia looked up and saw a dark van with two people standing guard. "Be extra careful with this one. I'd like to deal with her myself when I get back to the pack location." The man carrying her told the two. "Yes alpha." They said in unison as they opened the doors to the back. "Just enough space for the girl, alpha. We'll ship these prisoners back to the pack. Would you like the girl in the prison or in the pack house?" The woman asked as Cordelia was thrown into the van with about fifteen other people and the doors closed behind her. "Put her in the prison for now. I'll come get her when I get back." The apparent alpha said. "Yes alpha." The woman said and Cordelia felt the van move.
