CHAPTER 3

LUCAS’ POV “I really hope your idea works,” Alex whined. “Can you stop whining, remember all of this is your fault in the first place!” I said angrily. He was whining too much and wasn't making me think well. “I can't believe there is something like that. Contract marriage?” he let out an unbelievable tone. “It's one of the things people do nowadays, you don’t have to panic,” I told him with an eye roll. Being Alex’s friend was more than stressful, I was the only one who understood who truly he was and what he was feeling. I knew all of his attitudes were a facade. We were childhood friends and were now stuck with each other. “Lucas, where did you even meet her?” he asked. “I don't exactly know her, a friend of mine told me about her,” I said to Alex. We were in the car and of course, I was driving, my only idea was to get Alex a contract wife. Fortunately, years back, a friend of mine had needed a wife urgently and had told me about this lady who was into business like that. I got to the location he told me and started enquiring about her but we couldn't find any trace of her. “f**k! What do you think might have happened?” Alex asked me as I shrugged. “This was our last idea,” I told him with a slumped shoulder. “I don’t know, I am very sure this was where she lives,” I told Alex. “Let’s just head to the club, I need to relax my brain,” Alex said, making me glare at him. “You know this is the reason we are in this mess, don’t get me paranoid!” I scolded angrily. “I need to think well, whether you will take me there or not. I am going either way!” He retorted angrily. I wanted to say something but hesitated, whatever happened was going to be his burden. I was tired of clearing his mess for him. I headed to the club in silence, to be sincere I also needed a drink. All of this was happening fast and was becoming overwhelming. The car came to an abrupt stop as we got down. Soon the ladies noticed Alex and started rushing towards him. “Keep it low, I am not going to clean any of your mess!” I said angrily. “Just calm down and have fun,” he said. I dragged him and found a spot where the stage was very clear. We were downing our shots when they introduced a singer. “Geez, I know this lady. Her songs are good!” I told Alex who had a smug on his lips. “Really, I haven’t even seen her before.” He replied. “I managed to give her my card that night but your stupid call distracted me,” I said. “Watch your mouth,” he warned, earning a scoff from me. She started singing and I noticed how Alex was looking at her. I totally understood why, she was very beautiful and charming. Something about her just draws me towards her. “Wait! I have an idea. Let’s discuss the idea of contract marriage with her. I am sure she will accept.” I said with a smile. “That’s stupid! Do you even know what you are saying?” Alex asked. “I know what I am saying, she is the right candidate. You both will benefit from this,” I explained to him. “I don’t really know, I am not feeling her that way,” Alex said and I scoffed angrily. “At this point, I will stop helping you. You are not even making matters any better.” I said angrily. “Whatever, I know she would never accept this,” he said. I sighed heavily, hoping my plan worked. Soon she was done and headed backstage, with our influence we got backstage easily and saw her. “Hey, Erica!” I beamed. She looked up to see who it was and quickly masked up a smile. “Hey, Lucas?” she said. “This is Alex with me, you didn't get back to me after that day,” I said dramatically. “I am sorry, I misplaced the card and was hoping we get to see each other again,” she said with all sincerity and I nodded. I noticed how Alex wouldn't stop staring at her lustfully and tried to improvise. “Alex is such a p*****t!” I thought internally. “We actually came here to see you for something. Can we sit?” I asked her. She nodded her head and we walked to her. “This is Alex Montgomery, the CEO of Montgomery because of some circumstances he needs a wife urgently. I noticed how you were and liked you the first time I saw you,” I started saying. “I was thinking maybe you can agree to a contract marriage with him, it will also help your career because of his influence. I hope you understand what I am saying!” I said, trying to explain to her. “What the f**k are you saying?” she asked, standing up abruptly. “This is so disgusting, I don't even know you. Why will you suggest something like that?” she asked angrily. “Calm down and listen to what I have to say, this will help you better than you expect. He is willing to pay you millions of dollars for this besides your career will also benefit.” I said. “I am not one of those girls that sleep around for their career, I will get where I want with my talent! Get out of here!” she shrieked. “Please calm down, this is my card. Call me after rethinking it.” I told her. Alex strode behind me and we left there. “You didn't even utter any word,” I said to Alex, who only shrugged. “She is the girl I want for this, she has to accept. Make sure she does.” He commanded before getting into the car. “Why was Alex insisting on her?” I thought before getting into the car.
