CHAPTER 5

ERICA’S POV I stared at the mansion awkwardly, trying to suppress the scream that was about to erupt. The place was so big! I had only watched houses like this in movies. “This is where I live and you are going to be staying with me,” Alex uttered while my eyes roamed around. “This place is beautiful!” I managed to say. “I know, one of my babies,” Alex said proudly. “Well, I am going to bed now. Goodnight.” Alex said and walked away. “But you didn't even show me my room..” I uttered but he was already long gone. “Dickhead!” I muttered as I sat down to call my brother. I had just discussed it with my brother and he told me how my mom was doing fine. I wanted to go over it almost immediately but I wasn't even familiar with the environment yet. “I figured out you will need help,” I heard a voice say. I looked up to see Lucas standing there with his charming smile. “You know, I would have preferred if you were my fake groom rather than that dickhead.” I said playfully, earning a chuckle from him. “Come, let's head to your room. I am sure you are exhausted.” Lucas said as he led me to a room. “This place is so nice!” I cooed once I saw my room's interior. “Yes, I hope you like it. It was designed by me.” Lucas said. We talked for a while before calling it a night. Several thoughts and emotions ran through my mind as I lay on the bed, shifting from one side to another. How was my mom going to react to this marriage? Should I tell her? Would she get angry and disown me? These wild thoughts couldn't get out of my brain no matter how I tried. “Everything will be fine,” I said to myself. Closing my eyes, I finally succumb to slumber. THE NEXT MORNING “I am on my way,” I said over the phone as I rushed out of my room. “Good morning sir,” I greeted Alex as I hurriedly worked past him. For a couple who just got married, we were pretty bad at it. I got a taxi and headed to the hospital where my mom was staying. “Momma!” I said as I hurriedly hugged her. “I have been waiting for your arrival, where have you been?” my mom asked as I settled down. “I had so many jobs to do.” I lied. I honestly didn't want to lie to my mom but was there anything I could do? I didn't dare to tell her what had just transpired. I couldn't tell her that I just got married, to a stranger at that. She was going to kill me! “I am sorry about that baby. Now that I am healthy, I can start working back and you get relieved of all your jobs!” my mom said. “Mom, you can't stress yourself even after this. Besides, I am not complaining.” I said with a pout. We ended up eating breakfast with her and it was the best feeling ever. My phone buzzed on the table where I had kept it. “Hey, Lucas!” I greeted with excitement laced in my voice. I was just happy my mom was alive and healthy. “Wow, you sound very excited. I just wanted to ask where you have been.” He said. “He is so caring.” I thought internally with a smile. “Well, my mom just regained consciousness and I had to stay with her,” I said with a smile. “I didn’t know about that, do you think I can come over?” Lucas asked. “There is no need for that, we are all perfectly fine,” I told him. We ended up talking for a while before ending the call. I was wondering if my husband's dickhead would call but he didn’t. Not like I cared anyway, I headed back to the room. FEW DAYS LATER “I don’t even want to listen, this is so funny!” I said as Lucas was cracking jokes. The jokes weren’t funny but hearing it from him just made it funny. So far, my days have been spent with Lucas. He was such a good and caring guy, if it wasn’t for him I would have been so bored in this house! The house was so big with no one and Alex was barely around. We were still talking when Alex walked in. There was just something about him that made the air around my body stand. There was this aura…. I just couldn’t understand it. “I need to see you,” Alex said to me. I got up and scurried to follow him. We stood awkwardly looking around before he finally said something to me. “Good evening,” he finally said. “I am going to be attending a gala and I need you to be there. As my partner of course.” He said nervously, earning a burst of laughter from me. “Why do you sound so nervous? Aren’t we married?” I asked him with a smirk. “Sure, I will get everything and then we are good to go,” Alex said. “You have to remember that this is our first appearance as a couple. We have to create a good impression.” He said. “I have got you covered,” I said while patting his shoulder playfully. We shared a good laugh before parting ways. I felt something stir in me because of his actions, why was he so nervous? Was I that scary? I shrugged off those feelings and headed back to see Lucas. We talked for a while before he also decided to leave. Being left alone in the house with no one to talk to, I ended up watching movies till I slept off. I was still deep in my slumber when I felt someone carry me. Who could have done this? I was too lazy to even open my eyes so I left it closed and enjoyed the warmth of the masculine body.
