TBWL#14: Fell into danger

1327 Words
I think it’s much more fun to live without knowing than to have the wrong answers. I have rough answers and possible beliefs and varying degrees of uncertainty about various things, but I'm not really sure about anything, and I'm not sure about many things. I don’t know anything, for example, I ask why we are here, I don’t need to know the answer, I’m not afraid not to know, to get lost in a mysterious universe without a goal. , that's how it really is for what I can say.                                                                                                                                          - Feynman. ------------------------------ Calixto's point of View. ------------------------------- After driving aimlessly and shaking off the zombie, we lost control of the way. Our world turned upside down, right now, the van is suspended in the air. We are able to avoid the bulk of zombies that chases us, however, this feels like dying tragically too. In the light that flows water-like through the windows of the old bank, I strip off a few parts of my clothes and tie them on Lore's arm after removing the debris of broken glass that pierce her arms. I also have wounds on each arm, there are great purple welts that will only deepen over the coming week; against my ghostly skin, they are grotesque, but I know I am lucky not to have broken bones. What I get in return are cuts and wounds, far better than broken bones, right? I sigh and reach for my forehead. My hands are painted with my own blood. We jumped off to get out of the van and start walking. We carry the stocks with us. We are bleeding like hell, hence, the zombies will smell us. I wonder how many zombies are lurking here. "We won't make it to the port. It will be next month again," says the woman with an eyepatch. She is still carrying the bazooka. "About that vessel, how are you sure that it is not mere hearsay? or false hope?" "I was one who used to drive a vessel that transported survivors two years ago. However, I keep on coming back because I can't find my wife. Now that she's here we plan to leave this place.” "Have you met the president in person?" I asked out of curiosity. "Nope, there are no artifacts nor records about the president aside from his name. There are rumors that the president died a long time ago due to his age. Well, there are also claims that he has gained an elixir of youth. Anyway, regardless of each claim, I could not care more. I only want to leave this place and start a new life on another Island." "Anyway, I wonder what happened to the rest. I haven't seen them fall off the cliff," says Romer. Yes, it is true. Our van is the one who received a fatal blow because of that stupid zombie. We stopped by a spring to rinse the blood from the wounds and cuts. Surprisingly my cuts heal faster than anyone here, maybe because I only received minor cuts, instead, I have bruises. "Let's go. I saw a cloud of smoke on that side, wanna check what's in there?" says Anya. She's been receiving help from Romer due to her fractured left leg. The only thing I had was an archer and six arrows. They have guns with questionable amino. If we encounter several zombies we will likely use them and if the night knocks, we have nothing to use. Let's just say there are no zombies to appear before our eyes. This is why I am dying to have a sword, but I could not find any of them. We found a stone house in the middle of this abyss. The smoke is coming from a chimney? Could there be a soul living fine here? We slowly opened the door and peeked inside. It does not look like a murder ground, it's clean and there is even newly cooked food on the table. We entered the room and then the door clicked. "Who are you?" We turned around to see a woman behind us swinging a katana in front of us. "We wish not to harm you, we only need a place to treat our wounds, you see we came flying from the sky." "Are you sure it's not a zombie bite? I don't want to nurse another being who would bite me in return." "What do you mean?" I asked. I noticed her unsteady gazes. Her eyes are moving from place to place. Could it be that she is hiding a zombie somewhere in this small house? "Anyway, I won't allow you to stay here. You are reeking with the smell of blood, you are dragging the attention of zombies. Get out now," says the woman. Just about to take our leave when a child came running to us. He jumped into us. It happened too quickly for me to take action, even my friends were too shocked to react. When we recollected ourselves, the first thing I did was to block the child's advances by pressing the archer against the neck of the flesh-eater. Lory's arm is wounded, she can't properly hold a gun. We can't also use the bazooka because it is the last resort to use if the nightwalker appears later tonight. Anya took her pocket knife to stab the forehead of the child but to our surprise the woman tossed herself and the knife ended up on her shoulder. "Don't hurt my child!" "That's not a child anymore! It's a zombie, wake up a woman. It no longer recognizes humans. Get out of the way, I will blow that child's head!" Romer replied. "Screw you woman. We are going to get killed with your selfishness!" I uttered. I was about to toss the child away when it simply jumped to the woman's back. The woman screamed while holding her bitten neck. She collapsed on the ground, we blinked our eyes while watching the devouring woman. Her flesh was revealed as the child started tearing off her skin. I wasted no time and picked the katana. I sliced off the head of the child and I also chopped off the woman, giving her no chance to become a zombie. "I'll take this katana." We stayed for a while to properly put a bandage on our wound. And eat at least because we are starving to death. "This place is quite good if only we don't have to deal with nightwalkers." Well, this is truly safe. It has no window, only a steel door, and chimney. Nightwalkers is an unresolved case of zombies and the way they move is unpredictable. Little is known of their weakness. I stood up and broke the skull of the child... I was expecting to see something inside, perhaps that small parasite on the nightwalker's head. Romer stood up beside me and tapped my shoulder. "It seems like daywalkers and nightwalkers have different origins." He placed his hands below his chin. "But they have both weaknesses... which is the central part of their brain. The nightwalkers do not actually have a brain inside, but there is that parasite that grows inside and serves as the central commanding system. It seems like those things are eating the brain of their host. Unlike normal human beings, people will die immediately once the nervous system malfunctions but since they are living dead, those things do not matter anymore." Romer nods his head. "Do you think they are actually human-made or we are invaded by aliens?" "Aliens? Come on, it is more believable that it may be started with research lacking safety measures. It might be a result of a failed experiment.” "That's possible, but how would you describe that parasite? Don't you think it is out of this world?" Oh.. that? I could not help but sigh. Where the hell can we find an answer?
