Chapter four: Night out to a nightmare *** "Do you want to watch a movie?" I asked Eddie as I took a seat next to him. "A new movie just came out. Do you want to watch it with me?" Eddie gave me a strange look. "You're not taking Theodore with you?" "No, I want to go with you," I smiled at him. "So, what do you say?" "Sure," he shrugged. "I don't see why not." * I was one of those girls who'd be okay with watching romantic movies. Unlike my brother - who's a boy - is cringing on his seat. He was wincing in his seat so hard, and I was laughing for the entire movie. As soon as we got out of the cinema theater, he scowled at me. "How dare you make me watch a movie like this? It was so girly." "I thought you'd love it," I laughed. "I'm starving, so let's go and have dinner in some fancy restaurant." "First of all, what did we eat in the cinema theater? Second of all, since when does my sister eat in a fancy restaurant?" Eddie wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "Are you okay, Rae?" "I'm more than okay," I grinned. "So, what do you say?" "I say we can go to McDonald's and go home? Then, we can watch a movie, my choice, though," he put his hands up. "Since you chose this movie that I would probably never watch ever again in my life." "I like your idea more," I nodded. "My treat, by the way." He didn't let me pay for the cinema tickets or the popcorn, so it was only fair if I paid for the dinner. "I'll think about it," he smirked. We headed out of the Mall and made our way to Eddie's car. It was a red truck, and I wouldn't say I liked it. "How is Theo treating you?" He asked me randomly as he started the car. "Good," I answered. "Theo's great." "I am glad," he sighed. "I'm worried that when I leave, he might take the chance and maltreat you." "He won't, Eddie," I furrowed my eyebrows. "I know Theo, and he's very nice." "What if he's only showing you-" I cut him off. "I didn't need your protection back then, I don't need your protection now, and I will most probably need your protection when you leave." I didn't know why I said that, whether I was mad that he was leaving or because he didn't trust Theo. I loved that Eddie was protective, but he was never like that before Theo made an appearance. I've had a boyfriend before Theo, but that was when I was only fourteen- I didn't know anything. He stayed silent and started driving to McDonald's. He looked mixed with sadness and anger, but mostly anger. However, I didn't know if it was anger on me or someone else, Theo, or maybe himself. I turned on the radio, and I smiled when I listened to the music. Eddie noticed my smile, and he looked at me strangely. "So, I just had to let you know the way that Gucci looks on you, amazing, but nothing can compare to when you're naked." "An appropriate song to listen to when you're sixteen," he says sarcastically. "But nothing can compare to when you're n***d?" "As if you're thirsty," I rolled my eyes. "You're only one year and a half older than me." "Almost two," he smirked. "Rae, do you know that I love you, and I am only looking out for you, right?" "Yeah, but your comment wasn't needed," I tell him off. "Besides, Theo isn't scared of you, and I am glad that he is not frightened of you because I don't want my boyfriend not to trust my brother." "I don't trust Theodore," Eddie whispered. Eddie sighed, paying his attention back to the road. I licked my lips and looked out of the window. Eddie wanted to be the stereotypical brother, and he wanted to be like the brother who was very protective and wouldn't let his sister do anything.  He wasn't like that, but now that he was leaving, maybe he wanted a change. He started with Theo, though. Speaking of the devil, I looked at Theo's name that popped up on my screen. I didn't know if I should answer it next to Eddie, so I declined the call. It would be wrong of me to answer his phone call when Eddie had just told me that he did not trust my boyfriend. Then, I decided to send him a message. I am with Eddie right now. I will call you later. He called again, and I declined again. Over and over again, and I kept dropping it. "Answer him," he mumbled. "No," I shook my head. "He can wait." * "Why are you mad? I don't understand!" I groaned as I was on the phone with Theo. I called him back when I got back home. We ended up here instead of in McDonald's. "Because why would you ignore me if you were with Eddie?!" He exclaimed. "Raelynn, are you cheating on me?!" "Am I cheating on you?" I repeated, walking back and forth. "The most stupid question you asked me just yet, and the question that makes me believe that you don't trust me!" "I trust you, alright! But when I call you over ten times and you decline every time, then I ought to believe that you are doing something you shouldn't," he explained. "Why wouldn't you answer me when you're with Edward?" That's when I broke down. "Because Eddie does not-" "Eddie does not what?" He repeated. "C-Can you come over?" I stuttered. "I will be there in five," he replies. "Rae, I love you." * "So, he doesn't trust me?!" Theodore exclaimed. "Is there a reason behind that?" "I don't know," I shrugged. "I lied to my brother, and I told him that you're not scared of him." "I am not afraid of him," he lied. "I can clearly remember when you said, and I quote, 'he always scared me," I reminded him. "Yes," he nodded. "And I was joking." "Theo, don't take what he said personally," I played with his hair and took a seat next to him on my bed. "As long as I love you, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks of us." One thing I never mentioned was Theo's reputation. For a sixteen-year-old, being locked up in jail six times is normal. He wasn't smart. Well, he was brilliant, but he never tried to be innovative. He acted stupidly in every way possible, and I wouldn't say I liked that. However, my feelings for him didn't leave when I found out he was following his father's footsteps, a part of a g**g. My friends told me that I was stupid for giving him a chance, but my feelings were too honest to push aside. Theodore, to me, was a great person. Did love blind me to see that he was toxic? "Anyone? What does your mom think of me?!" He stood up, worry shown in his eyes. "She likes you," I smacked my lips, and I stood up. "Does she?!" Theo huffed out and walked to the door. "Your father? Your little brother? Cousins? Do they like me?!" "Theodore, understand that their feelings can't get in our way! If we truly care for each other, then they can keep their opinions to themselves because they don't know what happens between us two!" I said in frustration. "So what if they don't think we are good for each other? After all, I am a girl known to be good, and everyone expects the good from me. However, they see you. Differently, they see my opposite when they look at you, and that's okay. Because-" I breathed. "Because you are the one who saved me from their expectations, you came into my life and made me believe that I wasn't that little girl everyone took control of. Theo, you mean the world to me, and if you can't see that, then I don't know what else to do to show you." He didn't answer, but his hand grasped the knob tightly. "Please understand what I am trying to say, I was always the good girl, and you helped me live. You showed me how to live," I sighed. Theo finally let go of the knob and walked to me with a slight smile on his face. "Believe me, Rae, I love you more than words can say. You are the moon and the stars to my dark sky, and you are the knob to my door; you are the clothes to my closet. You are the video to my screen. You are the girl in my mirror." I laughed. "What are you saying? Some of them don't even make any sense." "Moral story is without you, I don't exist," he kissed my cheek. I couldn't help but feel like my whole world was spinning. * In the morning, I did not expect to wake up next to Theo. If my parents or Eddie found out, they would probably punish me for months. According to my mother, teenagers can't be together in a closed room. She said to me, and I quote, "I don't want to be a grandma at a very young age." Fortunately, Theo and I never did anything more than a kiss on the lips or neck, but I didn't know why. I felt like maybe the time would be soon. Theo was still dead asleep, so I tried my hardest to get out of bed without waking him up. I looked at him with a smile on my face, and my heart melted at the way he was sleeping. I made my way to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. The school would start in a month, and I wasn't too happy about it. I would return to all of the studying, stressing, and breakdowns every minute. Not to forget how busy I would be trying to keep my grades up, hoping for a miracle to happen. I always dreamt so big, and I wanted to be a surgeon when I graduated from college. However, since I was studying in a school where I didn't have to pay for it, I had less chance to become a great surgeon. "Rae?" I heard a voice from the other side of the bedroom door. "What?" I whispered, placing my ear on the door to hear correctly. "Why are you whispering?" Eddie asked, trying to twist the knob. "Do not open the door!" I exclaim, pushing the door. "Ever heard of knocking?" "I have to tell you something," he said. I opened the door and walked out of the bedroom before shutting the door. "What?" "I'm going to California next week so that I can find an apartment with Calum," Eddie stated. "I was hoping maybe you could come with me? And uhh Theo can join too if he wants to come." "No, I'd rather stay here," I reply quickly. I am not ready to go back to the place I came from. I was worried that maybe I would run into the boy, and I didn't want to explain my past to Theo. I was only six, yes, but Elias was the one who made me, me. He was the one who held my hand and showed me how to make friends, how to socialize. I was not ready to go to the state where I belonged, even if it would be only for a couple of days. "Oh," he sighed. "Alright, if you change your mind, you know where to find me." I nodded, and I went back to my bedroom. "Go to California with him. As if." "What happened?" I jolted slightly at Theo's voice as I closed the door. "Nothing," I shook my head. "Eddie wanted to talk to me about something." "Something like what? Did he find out that I am here?" Theo questioned. I shook my head again. "No, he was telling me that he was going to California next week and if I wanted to join him." "What did you say?" "No, I don't want to go," I respond. "Oh, Eddie asked me to bring you along if you want to." "Am I the reason why you don't want to go?" He groaned. "Because if it is, then please go." "No, no! It's only for a couple of days, anyway," I lay next to him. "I don't want to go back to California, that's it." ***
