CHAPTER 3;

Camilla's POV Night time came very fast. I closed the door to my small room with trembling hands, the echo of laughter from the hall still ringing in my head and ears. Embarrassment burned hot and deeper in my chest, spreading like wildfire until it reached her throat. I pressed my back against the door, sliding down until i sat on the floor, knees drawn tight to my chest. Then all hell broke lose. I couldn't control my tears and sobs. My thoughts wandered restlessly, circling the humiliation i have endured in my life to this very day. Every whisper, every smirk replayed in my mind, sharper than knives. "Why did i raise my hopes so high?" "Why did i accept to come with this man after all the stories I'd heard about him?" The questions gnawed at me, leaving me hollow with no answers. After a few minutes, I crawled into bed, exhaustion pulled me under, but sleep offered no mercy. The nightmare I've been having all these years came again, the bodies of my father and mother lying lifeless and the mocking words followed with laughter. I was sweating profusely, breath caught in my own throat, tears streaming down my face until a hand touched my shoulder. I jolted awake, heart racing, only to find myself being embraced in a person's arms. A man !!! It was dark in the room, only a little light from the moon penetrated through. His soft voice and gentle touch offered calmness to my soul. The calmness i had not felt in the longest time. His presence whispered and offered security, calmness and assurance that everything would be okay. “Camilla,” he murmured, his voice low and grounded, “You’re safe with me. ” He even knew my name! I tried to lift my head to have a look at his face, but instead I was pulled closer into his arms and steadied there. "Shhhhh" "Don't worry, I'm here for you," his words were the medicine i needed for my past and present wounds. He was easy to trust, my heart felt safe with him. Everything felt so right. At least someone has noticed me. But who was he? And why is he so good to me? The questions came flooding one after the other. I felt myself drift into sleep. It was the first peaceful night in a long time. By the time i woke up, it was already morning. The rays of the sun passed through my small window. Memories from last night came all at once. The man from last night. Who was he? Will i meet him again? I took a bath and headed to the pack kitchen to do my everyday duties. The other maids were still mocking me for yesterday's incident, but I cared less. I was used to this kind of treatment. I entered the kitchen and picked up my apron, washed the utensils and waited for more duties to be assigned to me. "Camilla," the senior chef, called me and I answered immediately. I walked over to where she was and bowed slightly as a sign of respect. "The Alpha orders you to take his breakfast." This wasn't the morning i expected. Certainly not how i wished to start my day, especially after yesterday. I was afraid that I could make a foolish mistake again. I was handed the tray and I walked straight to Alpha's dining area. My breathing becoming heavier with each step. I reached the dining area and lucky for me, only the alpha was there. Linda was not at that table. It offered some kind of relief in a way that i couldn't explain. "Good morning Alpha," I greeted before laying the tray down. As expected, he gave no answer. I took that as a clue for not wanting any disturbance and set the entire breakfast before him without a word. I raised my head only to find him looking intently at me. I couldn't tell if it was a bad thing or a good thing, but the staring contest lasted for about three minutes. For a moment, I was lost in his blue eyes. They were like a silent fire that burned quietly, not with rage but with a steady flame that revealed more than his words ever could. "Focus Camilla, focus," I kept repeating in my head. But my actions were betraying me. I couldn't bring myself to look away. "Slept okay?" he asked, breaking eye contact. I straightened and lowered my head immediately. Was my brain making up things? Was i hallucinating? Did he ask how i slept? I could believe what I had just heard, more like not trusting my ears, so i intended to ask him again. "I beg your pardon, Alpha," i said, almost like a whisper. Hoping not to be scolded He looked at me with cold eyes, the eyes i had seen yesterday, definitely different from how they had been just a few moments back. "Never mind" he answered in a cold voice and gestured to me to leave. That was so him. There's is no way a jerk like him cared about his servants.He was so heartless But why does his presence feel oddly familiar?
