Chapter 5;HIS ROOM

547 Words
Camilla’s POV The day had almost ended when Sarah called my name. I had been folding cloths in the laundry room. “Camilla.” I straightened immediately. “Yes?” She looked at me strangely before speaking. “The Alpha wants his chambers cleaned.” My stomach dropped. His chambers? I stared. “Me?” She nodded. I looked around instinctively. There were other maids. Many. Why me? Did I do something wrong? Did he remember yesterday? Did I offend him somehow? “Go now.” I swallowed and nodded. The walk to the Alpha’s wing felt longer than usual. The corridors became quieter. Cleaner. Everything looked expensive and untouched. I stood before his door. Took a breath. Knocked. “Come in.” His voice was low. Cold. Normal. I opened the door. And froze. His room was already clean. Nothing looked out of place. No clothes. No dust. No mess. My eyes moved around. Then landed on him. Alpha Brad sat near the window reading. His sleeves rolled slightly. His expression unreadable. He didn’t even look at me. I lowered my head. “You called for me, Alpha?” He turned one page. “My room needs cleaning.” I looked around again. Silently. He noticed. His eyes lifted. “Is there a problem?” I looked down immediately. “No.” I picked up a cloth and started wiping surfaces that were already spotless. Minutes passed. The silence felt strange. I became aware of every movement. Every breath. And somehow His eyes. I could feel them. Like he was watching. I adjusted a vase. Moved books. Folded blankets that were already folded. Then “Leave that.” I jumped. He stood. Walked over. My breathing slowed. Too close. Why was he standing so close? His hand reached out. Not toward me. Toward the shelf beside me. His arm brushed mine. Heat spread through my skin. I stepped back quickly. He noticed. Something flickered in his eyes. Then disappeared. His voice became colder. “Are you afraid of me?” I opened my mouth but closed it. What answer was correct? He looked away first. Good. He should. I nodded. “Yes.” His expression changed. Not angry. Something else. Then “Why?” The question surprised me. I blinked. Because everyone feared him. Because everyone talked about him. Because he looked at people like they didn’t matter. I lowered my head. “You’re the Alpha.” Silence. Then He laughed. A short laugh. Not cruel. Almost disappointed. “I see.” He turned away. I released a breath. Then his voice came again. “Stay.” I froze. Slowly looked back. My heart started beating harder. He wasn’t looking at me. Just standing by the window. “I have work.” I blinked. Work? He looked at me finally. “Read.” “…what?” He pointed at a stack of documents. “You can read?” I nodded. He pushed the papers toward me. “Then stay and help.” I stared. This made no sense. But I obeyed. And for the first time I stayed in the Alpha’s room. Not as punishment. Not as a servant. Just… there. Outside Night slowly fell. And I had a strange feeling Something was about to change.
