Two private soldiers hurried over raised him, unconscious, and between them, half-carried, half-dragged him into the building where Major Lorimer issued rapid instructions. They took him to a laboratory, where they expertly inserted a needle into his arm and withdrew a blood sample. One removed the face-mask, opened his mouth, thrust in a swab and scraped his gums for cell samples.
