The blood smell increased the further they got down the hall. Gideon flinched but forced himself to continue. He prepared himself to find the woman’s dead body with every step. A chorus of laughter erupted from all around him. He wasn’t heartened when Nathan tensed beside him. When his leader was worried, things were about to get very bad.
“Looks like the kitty’s owner is finally here.” A man announced as he walked into their view. He tossed a ball up and down as he stopped just out of their striking range. “Weren’t you the one bragging about how you didn’t care about anyone else? I could have sworn that’s what I heard you say.” He looked off behind him. “Isn’t that the feel you guys got too?”
