The small group made good time down the hallways. Max was doing his job of being a distraction well enough. Gideon wanted to turn and run down the hallway. He wanted to leave the vampire and cat behind, but he restrained himself. She wasn’t defenseless, Senna wouldn’t be his first choice for a guard, but he was far from useless. The young wolf would guard her, though Gideon still couldn’t figure out why. What had happened that his mate had caught that one’s eye? Still, at least he wasn’t going to have to compete again Nathan, that would have been the worst case scenario.
“Hey.” The voice was small and Gideon glanced behind him to meet the cat girl’s eyes. “Do you want me to scout ahead?”
He didn’t hesitate. “Yes. That’s a good idea. You can move faster than us, and stealthier too.”
