Roger and the Necromantic Abode

Ruth and Eric were very cautious about Ziphora. So they decided to lie to Elizabeth and take her for brisk walking.

This continued for one week. One day, Elizabeth invited a magician to their house and he said all the things that happened in their house for the past six months and showed them a vision.

In the vision, there was a type of magic that came to take revenge and magician said,“This is the power of the only puppy in the dog’s womb that will survive. It will come to destroy the murderers of his dad. It is better if you sell him to someone so that he will not destroy your entire house.”

After the next two weeks, Ziphora fell ill and it came to a situation in which her puppies should be removed from her womb or else the puppies will die. She had a C-section and two of her puppies died because of the illness but one survived. And Ziphora’s illness was so bad that she died, thinking that none of her puppies survived.

After two weeks, the family sold the puppy, Roger, to a retired military man. And he abandoned Roger when he was a month old.

From then on, he lived inside a college campus. He got enough food to live from the cafeteria and from the students there by his charm.

Two months flew by, now he had a long, brown and bushy tail, and his left ear was cut. It was a sign that he possessed mystical powers.

One day, he met a deaf man who worked there. He gave his lunch to Roger and he wondered, “Why is this man giving his food to me?” As he was always curious.

On that night, he saw a dream which consisted his parents unending love story and his parents’ death. When he woke up he said to himself, “All this time I thought that my parents left me, but this was the truth. I promise I will pray for you guys till my last breath.”

From then on the man brought an extra tiffin box of food just for him. Soon word spread about the dog with a combination of white, black and brown colours among the deaf people. More people started to admire his cuteness. Students in the college called him the Security of the college.

He grew and grew and became two years old on February 18th. On March, the whole country was in lockdown because of the corona virus disease and that left him hungry for a month.

On April 12th, it was Easter and a deaf whose name was Alex came with his grand-daughter Avi, who was ten years old, accompanied him. They gave him hot cross buns, Persian roast chicken, custard bread pudding, Easter pie and Easter bunnies. After he ate the whole thing, they went down the lane and Avi asked him to come with them but he couldn’t trust a person so easily after what had happened to his parents.

After fifteen minutes, they came again with a woman who was Alex’s daughter and Avi’s mother, Delilah. And Delilah gave Roger a packet full of biscuits and called him, “Roger”. He wondered how she knew his name.

The next day, they did not see him at first, so Avi went a little bit further, calling his name and when Roger saw her he wanted to surprise her. So, he stood behind her. At last, she turned around and found him standing behind her smiling. She said “You were here. Come, I have brought some food for you.” When he finished, they were already leaving.

He was bothered by this and he followed them and when he saw their house his jaw dropped. It was a mansion and he had never seen any other place like this. Roger assumed that they were rich at the very first sight. Then he made sure that they were inside the house and left to the college to sleep.

The next day it was a festival and people who were staying near the college gave him leftover desserts. He overate the desserts that he couldn’t even walk to see Alex and Avi. Meanwhile, they were already looking for the dog that they wanted to give a home to. After an hour, they decided to go back and come again the next day.

The next day, Roger got up and he went to their house for lunch. Alex was sitting on a rocking chair. On seeing the dog he wanted to adopt, he ran to the door and went inside. After a few minutes, he came with Avi, Delilah, and Astra who was Avi’s elder sister. Avi ran to open the gate and asked him, “Where were you yesterday? We were looking for you.”

He said, “I slept earlier than usual.” She heard him and thought that she was just imagining things.

Alex ran to get some food for him. He passed the food to Avi and said “There is a plate near the ladder. Give the food to him in that plate from now on.”

Roger noticed a change in the food and he realized it was cooked by someone else and not Aunt Delilah.

After he finished eating the food, Avi said excitedly, “Come, I will show you around the house. Well, the exterior part.”

“Okay.” He said and Avi convinced herself that she was hearing things.

He climbed a wall and started to walk while Avi said things about the house to him. Soon both of them were debilitated and Avi locked the gates and said, “Let me see what you can do if I will lock the gates. Don’t worry, I will open the gates for you in the morning. Go to sleep.”

The next morning, when Avi opened the gates for him, he didn’t want to go. After ten minutes of trying she gave up and figured out that he wanted to stay very badly.

“I have to attend classes. I’ll see you at 4 pm.” Avi said.

She came as she promised. And she took a ball that was under the rocking chair and threw it in the air and said to Roger, “Fetch Roger!”

When he came back with the ball in his mouth, an old lady opened the front door, saw him with the ball and said “Is this the thing that you have been telling about? What an ugly thing! I have seen him walk through this lane six years ago.”

“Yes and he is cute. He did not come here before six years because grandpa told us that he saw him two years ago. Back then he was only two months old. If you think that he is ugly, I think that you should go and consult the ophthalmologist because I think that you have prosopagnosia, granny.” Astra came and said.

“I do not have…. Wait what?”

“Prosopagnosia. It means that you cannot remember people’s faces.” Avi said laughing.

The granny scowled and went inside saying that “I think I have left the stove on.”

Avi and Roger kept on playing while the other family members and their birds watched them both, excluding Anne who was Astra’s and Avi’s grandmother.

After playing, she turned to Roger and said, “I will come back tomorrow.”

While climbing the stairs she said to Alex slowly so that he can understand, “We need to purchase a belt and chain for him.”
