A New Shot

I quickly found a table that was secluded from the others. As I opened the book, dust blew in face and made me cough a bunch. Clearly no one cares about these books anymore. I skimmed majority of the pages talking about characteristics that didn't fit the bill at all. As I was beginning to lose hope, I found a page revolving around a ritual that some elves engaged in to empower their abilities. "..When an elf drinks the blood of a demon, the cells engulf the elf's pre-existing cells. The elf in turn gains new demonic power as well as more force to be applies with old powers and magical abilities. Due to the demonic blood taking over, their blood becomes green and the pupil gains a green hue.." I can't even tell you how many times I read that small paragraph. It was the closest I ever got to potentially figuring why I was different. The only issue was I never performed this 'ritual' so I was back to square one. Maybe it was just a mutation? Rest assured, I have no weird abilities hiding under my sleeve. I took the book over to where I found it and put it in the highest shelf I could reach to at least show I tried. As I walked back home, I took in the sights. The kingdom was close to the ocean on one side and the forest on the other. I've never been to either. To be honest, I haven't really gone anywhere interesting ever. Just the orphanage, school, and obviously the occasional library visit. I reached the door to the orphanage and as I opened it, I saw the back of a familiar figure. Both Cecil and the figure turned around, to which I met with the same icy blue eyes as before. "Cayvanna! Thank goodness you got here sooner or later! This man here is Tyce. He is going to adopt you" After that moment, everything was a blur. I grabbed the few things I had and left with this man. My gut told me he was trust worthy. However on the flip side, how did he know where I lived? Who even was he? Suddenly as we walked, he broke my train of thought. "I'm sure you have many questions, but they will have to wait. You will come live with me in the Floating City. You will study under me and learn all about healing magic. If all goes well and you deem yourself capable, I can show you more intricate spells that require more energy and power. I also will be more than happy to help you find your true family". Those words stuck like glue the entire trip to the Floating City. Help me find my family? Thats a big promise to make. For all I know I don't even have any. As we walked through silence, we entered a portal. The rustic gray slabs of stone blurred into white plastered walls with royal purple and gold edging. It was gorgeous. The whole atmosphere of this tiny world was buzzing with life. People walking around shops, hard workers, and more portals that led to other cities down below. We finally ended our trip in front of a large house that looked the same as the other buildings. Very white walls with lots of royal purple edging. The building was very pristine. Much different than anything I've ever seen. Tyce motioned me to walk up the stairs where he led me to a large room. A king sized bed lay by itself in the corner by a large window. The sheets were a gorgeous royal blue. The walls were a velvet purple. "This will be your room" Tyce explained, "my office is down the hall if you need anything. I will let you settle in today. Tomorrow I will answer any questions you may have". Just like that I was left with my own thoughts. All this open space made me a little insecure. I put my things down and sat on the bed. As I looked outside, the view was truly something else. You could see miles and miles of land. That with the crowd made me smile a bit. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad. After all, in a couple years I will be old enough to be on my own if I feel like this life isn't for me. But for now, I took in the cool breeze that entered the room. I watched the sun shine brightly on the hills. Truly beautiful. Now to see what tomorrow brings
