I was stirred awake by the blasting sound of a distant gong somewhere outside the walls. With my brain still foggy and my lids heavy, I attempted to concentrate and gradually became aware of my present surroundings. Together with this knowledge, memories flooded my head like a river.
I moved my fingers lying limply beside me, but surprisingly, I felt no pain.
"You are awake," a voice gushed beside me, a voice I was excited to hear.
My lashes fluttered open. "Amara," I said, lifting my head off the pillow abruptly. "So, you are truly here." My voice came out more like a whisper.
She was nodding her head delightedly, laughter shimmering in her eyes. "I am so happy you are awake." She neared the bed but hesitated, possibly wondering whether to climb into it.
