~Tiara Giovanni’s sudden grip on my wrist had frozen me in place. My heart pounded as if it would burst out of my chest. He stared at me, his eyes glassy yet sharp, and I felt like a deer caught in headlights. “I… I… I wasn’t…” I stammered, my words tangling together into a string of nonsense. My hands shook, and the phone felt heavier in my grasp. Then, to my shock, Giovanni smiled, a lazy, drunken grin spreading across his face. “My wife,” he slurred, his voice soft and oddly affectionate. “So beautiful. Am I not a lucky man?” I didn’t know how to respond. My lips parted, but no words came out.
