“Can you do me a favor?” I used my hand like a visor. The sun was brilliant in the cloudless, blue sky, despite the canopy provided by the trees.
“I love it up here. I can see the Isthmian! We should go swimming later,” Zeta said, perched on a tree branch near the top of my home.
“There are giant sea serpents in that water. You’d be little more than a minnow to them, a plankton. They’d swallow you in a single gulp. Do you realize how that might ruin my afternoon?”
She laughed.
It was funny, but I was also being quite serious.
“Can you forget about her?” Rasheed stood with a knee bent, his hands planted on his hips. His cape was inside my tree, and his tunic was unbuttoned midway. His chest was hairy, and sweaty.
