"Hey Ella, can you come here real fast?" Deb said
"I'll be right back" I said to Kyle, he's the guy I work with during the week.
Jogging over to Deb, she motioned for me to come into the office portion of her house. Then I sat down. Oh jeez. Am I getting fired.
"So, do you know a lady named Janis, who has two daughters your age. Mary and Anne." Deb asked
"Uhm.. yeah why" I said
"They called and asked if you board here. Then asked if we have any open stalls" She said
"That's my ex-stepmother and her kids. That's the house I moved from cause it was.. terrible" I said
"I thought so. The name sounded familiar. I said I don't know who you are and we don't have anything available" She said
"Oh thank god." I sighed
"Are they like, psychos?" Deb laughed
"Yes. Her daughters, who hate the rodeo mind you, were there on Saturday, and said they are gong to make their mom make me teach them how to barrel race. They tried stealing my trophies and ribbons because they never win anything" I said
"Oh god. If i said I had something open, do you think they would of come here?" She asked
"If you said I was here yes. Especially because their horses don't like them. They only really listened to me" I said
"That's a sin. Well, you can go back to what you were doing. I just wanted to ask about that" Deb said
"No problem. Thanks for telling her no by the way. She'd be here in a heart beat and try and follow me. They are a weird bunch I swear" I said
She shook her head and I walked back out to finish mucking the stalls.
"So are you getting fired" Kyle laughed
"No you dipshit" I replied laughing "I'll launch this horse s**t at you"
"I know you will" He said still laughing
I rolled my eyes and laughed as I continued to work. I'm low key happy the season is over, now I have Saturday nights to myself.

"Alright, it's f*****g cold outside, so where's that jacket" I said to myself.
Looking through the closet, I found it. You know, there's not much in here but I still can't find jack s**t when I need too. I did find the heels right away though. Well, they are booties, or whatever the hell you call them. I have no idea. I took a picture in the mirror and John said he was on his way. So I did a little eye make-up, which is just mascara, and found lip gloss Kate made me wear before. It's all going to go away as soon as we get there but this will make her happy. Pulling on my jacket, I grabbed my wallet and keys and walked down to the living room.
"Aw you look so nice" My aunt said
"Thank you" I smiled
"Have a good time, and keep our son in check" My uncle said
"Will do" I replied laughing
John texted me that he was here so I headed outside. Hopping in his truck, he looked at me and smiled.
"You look really nice" He said
"Aw thanks. These were the clothes I was putting away while on the phone with you" I laughed "You look nice as well though"
"Thanks" He laughed
Kate texted me that she was there and we set off. It's only 15 minutes away from here.
"It's f*****g cold outside" I said
"I know. At least you wore a jacket" John said
"I'm not dumb, and I get cold easily" I laughed
"Yet you said you wanted a blizzard" He replied
"I do. I love the snow." I smiled
"But you get cold easily" John said
"I'd rather be cold then warm. At least when you're cold you can bundle up. If it's hot, well you're s**t outta luck" I said
"You do have a point" He replied
We continued to chat and soon arrived at the catering place. Heading inside we said what we were there for and were directed to a room. Then Kate ran over to me.
"OMG. Girl it still looks so good on you" She said "Especially with the boots and jacket"
"I'm going to die in these boots tonight" I said
She shook her head and we headed over to the table. Sitting down, Colin walked in with his co worker. She looks very nice. This isn't like a fancy dinner, but you do dress up. That's why i'm in pants and a body suite thing. Taking off my jacket, I put that on the back of my chair and Kate smirked at me.
"What" I said
"Nothing. My girlfriend just looks hot" She said
I rolled my eyes and laughed at her.
"She's not wrong" John said, out loud
Everyone looked at him and he shrugged. I think Chrissy is a bit confused, but that's fine. Colin can explain what ever happens tonight to her on the way home. Now it's time for the mini awards. We all pitched in for everything tonight so someone went out and bought tiny ones. Now we find out who gets to go race in Texas for the big event. It's a whole week, and three people from each circuit get to go. Me and Kate have gone twice, Kate won once. There's a lot of good people there. Way better then us.
"Alright everyone. It's time to see who gets to go to Texas!" Lexi said
She's a retired barrel racer, still does small shows but doesn't ride in the rodeo anymore. She loves putting this together every year.
"You think you're gonna go?" John asked me
"Maybe. Who knows" I smiled
He nodded and Lexi read off the names.
"So the three people going this year are.... Kasey, Kate, and Ella! I would say last names but there's no one with the same name" She said laughing at the end.
"Good job girls" Tommy said
"Congrats" John said after him
"So does that mean I get the house to myself that week?" Colin laughed
I shook my head and we went up and got the paperwork we now get to fill out. Yay. Once we sat down, Kate and I had to get up again because we each got a little trophy. It's a fun time here. They also did a little something for the ropers and riders.
"This food looks so good" Kate said
"It's the same thing every year" John laughed
"It's good every year too" I smiled
He just smiled at me and we enjoyed our dinner. I was looking around at one point and his friends kept looking over here. They all have dates, and have a full table so I wonder what they are looking at. Whatever.
"Well everyone. Tonight was amazing. Thank you all for coming and good luck to the three going down to Texas. Have a great off season and I will see you all next year" Lexi said
"So, I guess it's time to head out. I'll see you at home El" Colin said
"Okay." I replied
"Bye babes" Kate said
"Bye love. I'll see you eventually" I smiled
"Yes. You living closer is so much better now" She replied
We hugged and I gave Tommy a hug as well. Then I followed John out to his truck. His buddies were all out there too.
"Did you two go together?" Ryan asked
"Yeah" John replied
"So you didn't want to go with me. But you went with him" Ryan said looking at me
"Yup." I smiled
"Why?" He asked
"Because. He's fun to talk to" I said
"And i'm not?" Ryan asked
"Well considering you don't pay attention to a word I say. No. And before you say you do, you don't." I said
"Name one time" Ryan smirked, mind this, his date is right next to him
"When John and I switched back trucks and he said something about it being a manual. You were all shocked and asked if it was stick. I told you, twice, that I drive a stick shift" I said
He just shook his head and walked over to his truck. John grabbed my hand and pulled me over to his truck and opened the door for me. Hopping in, he shut the door and got in on his side. Then he looked at me, laughed, and shook his head.
"What" I said
"You just like fighting with my friends" He laughed
"Well your friends like to be d***s" I replied
"You have a point. But now I have to listen to it" He said
"I don't know why Ryan has his panties in a twist. He was fighting with me about not going with him, while his date was right there. So how much you wanna bet they're gonna fight on that ride home" I said
"True. I still think he's into you. Now he's just mad" John laughed
I shook my head and we started back to my house. We continued to chat on the way back and he told me about him a little more. His birthday is coming up soon. He'll be 24. He's just a year younger than Colin but 2 years older than me. I like older guys, I don't know why. Not like older older, but John's age. Anyway, we pulled in the driveway and he looked at me.
"Did you have a good time tonight?" He asked
"I did, did you?" I replied
"Yeah. I guess I should thank Kate for telling you to ask me." He laughed
"Yeah. But then I won't hear the end of it" I replied
He just smiled and looked at me.
"Come here" I said
"I am here" I laughed
"I mean lean closer dork" John said
I put my elbow on the center console and rested my chin on my hand.
"Yes" I said
He just leaned over and kissed me. It wasn't like a full on kiss, just a quick one. He leaned back and smirked at me while I just felt a small smile creep up on my face.
"What was that for?" I asked
"Well, since everybody thinks we asked kissed at the bar. I wanted to kiss you." He said
"Oh. Okay" I replied
"Yup. I guess i'll see you tomorrow night then. I'm guessing you're gonna come chill with us" John said
"Yeah. Me and Ryan might fist fight but you know. It's all good. Let me know when you get home okay" I said
"Yup" He replied
I hopped out of the truck and he waited until I got inside to leave. So nice. Now it's time to get out of these clothes and into the comfy ass bed of mine. I'm still obsessed with it.
