The next morning, Jabari woke up early, feeling refreshed and invigorated. He lay in bed for a moment, thinking about the events of the previous night. He couldn't believe that he had danced with the queen herself, and that she had seemed so warm and welcoming to him.
As he got dressed and getting ready for the day, he couldn't help but wonder what the future held. Would he see the queen again? Would he be able to explore the kingdom and discover its secrets?
After breakfast, He decided to explore the palace and see what wonders it held. He walked through the corridors, admiring the intricate carvings and colorful tapestries. He passed by courtiers and advisors, who bowed low and greeted him warmly.
As he turned a corner, he came face to face with one of the queen's advisors. "Ah, Jabari," the advisor said, smiling. "The queen has been looking for you. She requests your presence and summon you to the throne room."
He felt a jolt as he followed the advisor to the throne room. What did the queen want to see him about? Was it something to do with the previous night's celebration?
When they arrived at the throne room, the queen was already seated on her throne, looking regal and beautiful. She smiled at him as he approached, and Jabari felt his heart flutter.
"Jabari," she said, her voice warm and gentle. "I'm so glad you could join me today. I wanted to talk to you about something important."
He knelt, feeling a sense of respect for the queen. "I'm honored to be speaking with you, Your Majesty," he said.
The queen smiled again, and waved her hand in the gesture of dismissal. "Please, call me Ayanna," she said. "We're not formal here, unless it's absolutely necessary."
Jabari smiled back, feeling more at ease. "Thank you, Ayanna," he said.
The queen leaned forward, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "I wanted to ask you about your travels," she said. "Where have you been, and what have you seen?"
Jabari launched into a long story about his adventures, telling the queen about the different places he had visited and the people he had met. He told her about the bustling markets of the city, where he had haggled over the price of colorful fabrics and spices. He told her about the rolling hills of the countryside, where he had watched the sunset over the fields of golden wheat. He told her about the vast deserts that stretched as far as the eye could see, where he had ridden on the back of a camel and marveled at the stars twinkling in the night sky.
The queen listened intently, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "What was the most interesting thing you saw in the city?" she asked, leaning forward in her throne.
He thought for a moment before responding. "Uhm.. I think it was the artisans' quarter," he said. "I saw craftsmen working on intricate wood carvings and beautiful textiles. It was amazing to see the skill and craftsmanship that went into each piece."
The queen nodded thoughtfully. "I've heard that the artisans of the city are some of the most skilled in the land," she said. "I'd love to see their work sometime."
He smiled. "I'm sure you would enjoy it," said Jabari. "The artisans are very proud of their work, and they take great care in creating each piece."
The queen asked him about the people he had met on his travels, and he told her about the nomadic tribes he had encountered in the desert. "They were some of the kindest people I've ever met," he said. "They welcomed me into their tents and shared their food and stories with me."
Her eyes lit up with interest. "I've heard that the nomadic tribes are very skilled in the art of storytelling," she said. "What kind of stories did they tell you?"
Jabari smiled, remembering the stories he had heard around the campfire. "They told me stories of their ancestors and the ancient traditions of their people," he said. "They also told me stories of the desert and its secrets, like the hidden oases and the magical creatures that live there."
The queen nodded thoughtfully, her expression contemplative. "I think there's something special about the stories that are passed down through generations," she said. "They hold a deep wisdom and understanding of the world."
She went on to ask him about his childhood, and he told her about the adventures he had with his siblings in the countryside. "We would spend hours exploring the woods, climbing trees, and chasing after rabbits," he said, laughing. "Those were some of the best days of my life."
The queen smiled, her eyes sparkling with interest. "I had a similar childhood," she said. "I would spend hours playing in the gardens of the palace, chasing after butterflies and picking wildflowers. It was a magical time."
His eyes widened in surprise. "I never would have guessed that a queen had a childhood like that as a little princess," he said.
The queen laughed. "Most people don't know about my childhood," she said. "But I think it's an important part of who I am today."
As they continued to talk, Jabari felt a sense of connection with the queen that he had never felt with anyone before. He realized that they shared a love of adventure and a sense of curiosity about the world.
The queen then moved on to ask him about his parents, and he told her everything. From how they looked like, what they liked, to what pissed them off, basically everything she would want to know. Jabari went on to the stories they used to tell him. He smiled, " Ironically they would tell me about the ancient traditions of our people, and the stories of our ancestors," he said, recalling the stories of the nomadic tribes.
The queen listened with a warm smile, her eyes sparkling with interest. "You have a wonderful sense of wonder," she said. "I think that's something that is very important in life."
He nodded in agreement. "I think you're right," he said. “Wonder is what drives us to explore and discover new things."
She nodded thoughtfully. "I think that's something that we can sometimes lose sight of in our daily lives," said the queen. "But I think it's essential to hold onto it, no matter what."
As they continued to converse, Jabari felt a sense of ease and comfort that he had never felt before, especially with someone of Ayanna’s rank. He realized that the queen was not just a ruler, but a person, with her own thoughts and feelings.
After a while, the queen leaned back in her throne, looking thoughtful. "Jabari," she said, "I think you might be just the person I'm looking for. I have a task in mind, something that requires bravery and cunning. Would you be interested in hearing more about it?"
He got goosebumps as he nodded eagerly. He would do anything to prove himself to the queen, and to explore the kingdom further.
The queen smiled, seeming to sense his enthusiasm. "I'll tell you more about it later," she said. "But for now, let's just say that it's a task that requires great courage and determination. Are you up for the challenge?"
He nodded again, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation, the ‘take me to ecstasy’ type. He knew that he was ready for whatever lay ahead, as long as it pleased the queen.
The queen smiled, and nodded her head. "I think you'll be perfect”.
