VERGIL: The last thing I want to do is get married to a random girl. For years I have waited for my mate, but she isn't forthcoming. My father was dying, and as the next in line, I am expected to marry and produce an heir or else the role goes to my brother. Giving the dire situation, I had to put a pause to longing for my fated mate. I asked my assistant Byron to arrange a pretty girl from any of the Hound Packs, and he did, but the reason why I am standing at the f*****g temple alone makes me mad. I wanted a quiet wedding which I could dissolve at anytime. It was contractual until I found my fated mate, and I gave clear instructions, but she didn’t show up before the storm started. “You better find her before this storm starts!” These were my last words to Byron and he isn't back yet with my f*****g bride. Now it is over, and I am about heading out when my phone rings in my pocket, and I pull it out to see it is.. calling. Anger surges through my veins as I pick the call. “Where the hell is my bride?” I roar. “I am sorry Alpha Prince Vergil but.. Aria is dead.” I freeze as the words hit me like a bullet to my chest and I stand there trying to process his words when he reveals the worst. I have never met Aria, and I certainly wasn’t in love with her. I have just seen pictures of her, but hearing she is dead shakes me. She has Luna blood, and had a lot of potential, and it just feels wrong. “There was a collision between Lily Parker’s car and hers. Everyone survived but Aria.” My fists clench and the haze in my head clears hearing Mathew’s fiancée’s name. “We can find you another…” “Lily Parker that I know?” I cut him off. “Yes, Alpha Prince Mathew’s fiancée. She was merely injured and is fine now according to the report I heard.” That sounds too neat, and perfect, like something Mathew would do. Ever since it had been revealed that we were half brothers he has been at logger heads with me. His mother Marilyn Storm was my father’s first wife, but she was his chosen mate. Marilyn wasn’t able to conceive until my father met his fated mate my mother, Beauty Storm who conceived first, making me a month older than Mathew. That fact has always eaten him alive. “I want her arrested. Tell the police to bring her in and I will be there,” I say, ending the call. LILY: The only thing I can think of all night is the lifeless body of the woman I killed. The thoughts of the trouble ahead of me keeps drumming in my ears as I wait for the other shoe to drop. It will not be long until the owner of the bride comes for her. “Ma’am are you okay?” My assistant, Chloe asks, causing my heart to jump as I turn to face her, placing a hand on my chest. I take a deep breath, trying to steady my aching heart. A lot has happened today and the day has refused to end. Worse, Mathew never called to know if I got home safely. It is almost like he planned for this night to happen, and my brakes.. they just stopped working. My car was just serviced this week, and the mechanic said everything was perfect, but the moment I head into Mathew’s house to ask for a rejection I get into an accident? That sounds too convenient. Chloe reaches for my hand, and I face her with a forced exhale. “I.. I just need to rest.. t.. take me home,” I say and she walks me out of the hospital. As a doctor I was allowed to take the corpse to the hospital to be deposited in the morgue. The sister of the bride had passed out shortly from internal bleeding, but she has been successfully resuscitated after an impromptu surgery which I volunteered to do but my hands were unstable so I was pulled away from the theater and another doctor took over. The moment Chloe and I step outside the hospital, the blinding light and siren of a police car hit us. It stops in front of us, and one policeman steps out from the passenger seat. Gasps ripple from the few nurses still lingering by the entrance. A phone camera clicks. “Lily Parker you have to come with us to the station. You are under arrest for the murder of Aria…” My throat dries as he says this, and before I can resist, I am bound in cuffs, being pushed into the vehicle. “Ma’am. Do you need me to call anyone? Your father maybe, I..” “NO!” I yell as the officer shuts the door. I cannot call my father, because it might trigger his heart condition and he is all I have for now. Mathew would have been the best to call but something tells me he wants me dead. Then he comes to my mind. The one man who will make Mathew tremble. “Call Vergil!” I yell as the car drives off. I’m shoved into the query room like a criminal. “I am innocent… I.. swear.. it was an accident.. you cant do this to me!” I yell. “We’ll be the judge of that,” he says, slamming the door in my face. I slump onto the chair in the room, and it’s cold steel bites through my clothes as I sit. I can’t stop thinking about Vergil coming to save me. It makes me feel horrible for my life choices. We used to be friends, not too close but we spoke often before my bond with Mathew. Mathew had made it clear for me to stay away from Vergil. He didn’t like the way I smiled when Vergil was around, or how Vergil always made me laugh too easily. When he became my mate, that was the first rule he made, and I respected his decision as my mate. So ironic how tables have turned, and Vergil is the only person I can count on to save me with his position. The door slams open, and my breath hitches in my throat. “Vergil…” Relief floods my chest as I rise shakily. “Thank goodness you’re here—” My words falter as I see his stone cold face. “Start talking,” he growls. My heart skips. “W-what?” “Don’t f*****g play dumb with me,” he snarls. “Tell me how much Mathew paid you to kill my bride.” Fear bolts through me, knowing the lady was his bride, but how? Have I been so innattentive that I didn’t know about Vergil getting maried? “I… I didn’t…” “What did he promise you?” Vergil snaps. “That you’d be Luna when they dethrone me? You think you’ll wear a crown after this?” His voice drips venom as he steps back. “Think again. Because you’ll rot in jail.” He turns to leave, and the thoughts of Mathew planning my death becomes stronger knowing Vergil was to marry. “Mathew broke up with me,” I whisper. “And I think he tried to kill me.” His steps falter, and the door of the room opens before he can say anything. A police man walks in. “We found something alpha prince, Vergil.” What could they have found?
