The Forbidden Forest

824 Words
The cold night air bit against Elena’s skin as she stepped away from the pack hall. Behind her, the heavy wooden doors closed with a deep thud. The sound echoed through the quiet night like the final chapter of her old life slamming shut. Elena didn’t turn back. If she did, she might break. Tears blurred her vision as she walked down the long stone path leading away from the Silver Moon Pack territory. The torches behind her slowly faded into the darkness. Every step felt heavier than the last. The pain of the broken mate bond still burned inside her chest, sharp and relentless. It felt like a piece of her soul had been ripped away. Her wolf whimpered softly in her mind, weak from the rejection. But Elena forced herself to keep moving. There was no place left for her there. The pack that once felt like home had cast her out without hesitation. The people she trusted had turned their backs on her. And the one person fate had chosen for her… had destroyed her without even listening to the truth. The forest loomed ahead. Dark. Silent. Dangerous. Everyone in the Silver Moon Pack knew the stories about this forest. Rogue wolves lived there. Savage creatures that no longer followed pack rules or honor. They hunted anything that moved. A lone wolf wandering into their territory was nothing more than easy prey. But Elena had nowhere else to go. She stepped beneath the tall trees. The moment she crossed the invisible boundary, the atmosphere changed. The forest was colder. Quieter. The wind whispered through the branches like distant voices. Elena wrapped her arms around herself as she walked deeper into the shadows. Her senses were dull from exhaustion, but her wolf still tried to stay alert. Something about this place felt wrong. Very wrong. A twig snapped somewhere behind her. Elena froze. Her heart began to race. Slowly, she turned around. “Hello? she called weakly. No answer. Only silence. She exhaled shakily. Maybe it was just an animal. She turned back and continued walking. Another sound came. Closer this time. Leaves rustling. A low growl. Elena’s blood turned cold. Her wolf stirred weakly inside her mind. Danger. Slowly, carefully, Elena looked over her shoulder again. A pair of glowing yellow eyes stared at her from the darkness between the trees. Then another pair appeared. And another. Her breath caught in her throat. Rogues. Three large wolves stepped out of the shadows, their fur matted and their teeth bared. Their growls echoed softly through the forest. Elena’s body went rigid with fear. She tried to summon her wolf. But the rejection bond had weakened her badly. Her wolf struggled to respond. The rogues began circling her slowly. Predators closing in on wounded prey. One of them spoke, his voice rough and cruel. Well, well,” he said with a dark chuckle. A little pack girl wandering alone. Another rogue sniffed the air. “Fresh rejection scent,” he said. The third wolf licked his teeth. She’ll be easy. Elena’s heart pounded violently. Her instincts screamed at her to run. But her legs felt weak. And three rogues were far too much for a weakened wolf to fight. Still… She wasn’t going to die without trying. Elena took a shaky step back. “Stay away from me,” she warned. The rogues laughed. “What are you going to do?” one of them mocked. “Cry at us?” The largest rogue stepped forward. His claws dug into the dirt as he lowered himself into a hunting stance. “I think we’ll enjoy this,” he growled. Elena’s pulse thundered in her ears. She prepared herself for the attack. The rogue lunged. But before he could reach her— A deep, terrifying growl exploded through the forest. The sound was powerful. Dominant. Filled with deadly authority. The rogues froze instantly. Every muscle in their bodies went rigid. The forest suddenly felt… different. Heavier. Like something far more dangerous had entered the territory. A powerful scent spread through the air. Dominant. Ancient. Alpha. Elena felt it too. Her wolf stirred weakly inside her chest. The rogues slowly backed away, their earlier confidence gone. One of them whispered nervously. “Alpha…” Heavy footsteps approached through the trees. Slow. Deliberate. Every step carried the weight of absolute power. The rogues lowered their heads instinctively. Even Elena felt her body react to the overwhelming presence. Then a tall figure stepped out of the darkness. The moonlight fell across his broad shoulders. His black hair moved slightly in the cold wind. And his sharp silver eyes locked onto Elena. For a long moment, no one spoke. The forest held its breath. Then the stranger inhaled slowly. His gaze sharpened. Something unreadable flickered across his face. Because the scent reaching him carried something impossible. A scent that made his wolf suddenly roar inside his chest. Mate.
