The Accusation

729 Words
The room fell into a heavy silence. Damien stood in the doorway, his tall frame blocking the light from the hallway. His dark eyes slowly moved across the room until they settled on the bed. On Elena. She lay there, barely able to move, her breathing uneven as the drug clouded her mind. Confusion filled her chest. Fear followed quickly after. Sophia stepped back suddenly, her hand flying to her mouth in fake shock. Damien I didn’t know what to do,she said, her voice trembling. Elena tried to speak. Sophia please But the words barely left her lips. Damien’s expression darkened as he walked further into the room. The air seemed to grow heavier with every step he took. What is going on here? he demanded. Sophia hesitated, as if unsure whether to speak. But Elena saw it. The quick flash of satisfaction in her sister’s eyes before she lowered her gaze. “I came to check on Elena, Sophia said quietly. “She said she wasn’t feeling well after the ceremony. Damien didn’t look convinced. His eyes moved back to Elena. Why is she in my room? Elena’s heart pounded painfully. She forced herself to sit up slightly, even though the world spun around her. I… I didn’t come here, she whispered weakly. But Sophia suddenly spoke again. She followed you. Damien’s gaze snapped back to Sophia. What? Sophia took a shaky breath, playing her role perfectly. I tried to stop her,” she said softly. “But she insisted she needed to speak to you… privately. Elena stared at her in disbelief. No… that’s not true Her voice sounded small and helpless. Sophia continued, her voice full of sadness. “She kept saying that since you’re her mate now, she had the right to come here.” Damien’s jaw tightened. “And?” Sophia lowered her eyes.,She tried to… seduce you. The words slammed into Elena like a physical blow. “No! Elena’s voice came out louder this time, filled with desperation. “I didn’t But her body betrayed her again. She swayed slightly, barely able to stay upright. The drug made everything feel distant and slow. Damien watched her closely. His expression was hard. Cold. Is that true? he asked. Elena forced herself to look at him. Her chest hurt. The mate bond between them still pulsed faintly, but now it felt fragile… like glass ready to shatter. Damien please listen to me, she whispered. “I didn’t come here. Sophia brought me—” “Enough. The single word cut through her explanation like a blade. Damien’s eyes darkened further. “You expect me to believe that my future Luna would lie about something like this?” Elena felt the last piece of hope inside her begin to crumble. “She’s not telling the truth, Elena pleaded weakly. “I think she put something in my drink…” Sophia gasped softly. How could you accuse me of something like that?” she asked, her voice filled with wounded disbelief. Elena stared at her. Her sister’s acting was flawless. Too flawless. Damien rubbed his temples slowly, clearly frustrated. This is exactly why I didn’t want to deal with this tonight. The tension in the room thickened. “You are my mate, he said finally, looking at Elena again. Her heart jumped slightly. For a moment, hope flickered again. But the next words crushed it completely. “That doesn’t mean you can act without dignity.” Elena’s throat tightened. “I wasn’t— “You followed me into my private room,” Damien continued coldly. “You waited here.” “That’s not true!” “You’re lying.” The words struck her harder than any physical blow. Tears burned her eyes. “I’m not lying Sophia gently touched Damien’s arm. “Maybe she’s just overwhelmed,” she suggested softly. “The mate bond can make people behave irrationally.” Elena looked at her sister with disbelief. How could someone be this cruel? Damien exhaled slowly. “Get dressed,” he told Elena firmly. Her stomach dropped. “What? You’re coming with me. Fear crawled into her chest. Where? Damien’s expression hardened. To the ceremony hall. Elena’s heart began racing. Why would he take her there? But when Sophia’s lips curved into a small satisfied smile… Elena suddenly understood. Her sister’s trap wasn’t finished yet. Not even close.
