The Alpha’s Territory

The forest was quieter now. After the rogues fled, only the whisper of the night wind moved between the tall trees. The moonlight filtered through the branches above, casting pale silver patterns across the ground. Rowan Nightshade stood still for a moment, watching the unconscious girl in his arms.Elena Frost. His mate. The word still felt strange inside his mind. For years Rowan had believed the Moon Goddess had forgotten about him. Alphas often found their mates early in life, strengthening their rule and stabilizing their packs. But Rowan had waited. Years passed. No mate. Eventually he stopped expecting one. And now fate had suddenly thrown this fragile, rejected girl into his path. Rowan looked down at her again. Even unconscious, she looked exhausted. Her pale face carried traces of dried tears. Her breathing was slow and uneven, as though her body was still fighting against something. The scent of rejection lingered faintly around her. Rowan’s jaw tightened. A mate bond was sacred. To reject it was rare… and cruel. Whoever had done this clearly had no understanding of what they had thrown away. Or perhaps they simply did not deserve her. Rowan adjusted his grip on her slightly and began walking again. The path through the forest grew more familiar with every step. This was his territory. His kingdom. The deeper he moved into the woods, the stronger the scent of his pack became. Pine trees towered overhead, their branches swaying gently in the night wind. The ground beneath his feet was firm and smooth from years of pack patrols. No rogue wolves dared remain here for long. Not in Shadow Fang territory. Rowan’s presence alone was enough to keep most threats away. After several minutes, faint lights appeared ahead between the trees. Torches.Homes. The heart of the pack. Shadow Fang Pack lived in a wide clearing surrounded by thick forest and mountains. The pack houses formed a protective circle around the central structure the Alpha house. Unlike the smaller homes scattered across the clearing, the Alpha house was large and built from dark stone and heavy timber. It stood tall and imposing, a symbol of strength and leadership. As Rowan stepped into the clearing, several wolves immediately noticed him. Warriors patrolling the area straightened at once.Alpha. They bowed their heads respectfully. But their attention quickly shifted. Rowan rarely returned from patrol carrying anything. Especially not a woman. Their curiosity was obvious. Rowan ignored it. His gaze remained fixed ahead. Within moments, a tall man with short dark hair approached quickly from the training grounds. Marcus.Rowan’s Beta. Marcus slowed as he reached them, his sharp eyes immediately assessing the situation. Alpha,he greeted calmly. Then his gaze moved to Elena. His brows lifted slightly. That’s new. Rowan didn’t stop walking. She collapsed in the forbidden forest. Marcus fell into step beside him. “And you brought her here?” Rowan glanced at him briefly. She’s my mate. Marcus stopped walking. Completely. For a rare moment, the usually composed Beta looked genuinely stunned.Your mate? Rowan continued walking toward the Alpha house as if the statement meant nothing. Marcus quickly caught up again. “Well,” he muttered under his breath, “that’s one way to surprise your pack.” Rowan pushed open the heavy doors of the Alpha house and stepped inside. Warm air greeted them instantly. A large fireplace burned at the far end of the main hall, casting soft light across the wooden floors and stone walls. The house was quiet at this hour. Most pack members had already retired for the night. Rowan moved down the hallway toward the healer’s wing.Call Lila,he ordered. Marcus nodded. I’ll get her. Rowan entered one of the healer’s rooms and gently placed Elena onto the bed. For a moment he simply stood there, studying her again. Without the dirt and tension of the forest, her features were clearer. She looked younger than he first thought. Fragile. But something about her presence still felt… unusual. Rowan’s wolf stirred again, restless beneath the surface. The scent of their mate bond filled the air. It was undeniable. Moments later the door opened again. A woman in her forties entered the room quickly, tying her long gray hair into a loose braid as she walked. Lila. The pack’s healer. Her sharp eyes immediately noticed Rowan standing beside the bed. Then she noticed Elena. Well,Lila said, slightly amused. “This is unexpected. Marcus leaned casually against the doorway behind her. You’re not the only one surprised. Lila stepped closer to the bed. Who is she? Rowan’s voice remained calm. My mate.Lila froze mid-step. Her gaze slowly shifted between Rowan and the unconscious girl. “Your mate, she repeated. Marcus nodded. “Apparently. Lila shook her head softly as if trying to process the information. Well then,” she said after a moment. Let’s see what condition your mate is in.” She sat beside the bed and gently took Elena’s wrist. Her fingers pressed lightly against the pulse point. Lila’s expression slowly grew more serious. She’s extremely weak,” the healer murmured. Marcus frowned. “We found her in rogue territory. Lila nodded thoughtfully. “That explains some of it. She moved a hand to Elena’s forehead, then checked her breathing carefully. Rowan watched silently. What is it?” Lila’s eyes narrowed slightly. There’s something in her system. Rowan’s gaze sharpened. What kind of something?” Lila leaned closer, inhaling lightly. A drug. Marcus straightened. A drug? Yes,” Lila confirmed. Something designed to suppress her wolf. Rowan’s expression darkened instantly. Someone had drugged her. His mate. The air in the room seemed to grow colder. Marcus noticed immediately. Easy, Alpha,he said quietly. But Rowan wasn’t finished asking questions. Will she recover? Lila nodded. Yes. The effects are fading already. She paused. Then her hand hovered over Elena’s wrist again. Her brows slowly pulled together. That’s… strange. Marcus sighed slightly. “Why do I feel like that sentence is never good news?” Lila ignored him. She closed her eyes briefly, concentrating. Rowan waited. Then Lila’s eyes suddenly opened. Wide. “That’s impossible. Rowan stepped forward. “Explain. Lila looked at Elena again, clearly confused. “I can feel her wolf. Marcus crossed his arms. “Okay… and? Lila swallowed. “It doesn’t feel like an Omega. The room fell silent. Rowan’s eyes darkened. “Then what does it feel like?” Lila hesitated. Almost as if she didn’t fully trust her own senses. But when she spoke again, her voice was certain. Alpha.Marcus blinked. Wait… what? Lila nodded slowly. Yes. She looked directly at Rowan now. Her blood carries the aura of an Alpha wolf. Rowan turned his gaze toward Elena again. His mate. A rejected wolf. With Alpha blood. His wolf stirred again, more awake now. More interested. Perhaps fate had not been cruel after all. Perhaps fate had given him something far more powerful than he expected. Rowan watched her quietly. And for the first time since finding her in the forest, a dangerous thought crossed his mind. The pack that rejected this woman… Had no idea what they had just lost.
