~ALLISON POV~ I bit down hard on my lower lip, willing my racing thoughts to settle. I needed to pick the right words, something believable. Once again, I chose to lie. “I was at the garage,” I said finally, watching Cara’s eyebrows shoot up in confusion. “The garage?” she repeated skeptically. “Ash needed help with his bike, so I lent a hand,” I added quickly, trying to sound casual. It wasn’t entirely a lie—more like a carefully constructed half-truth. But the real story? I’d been making out with her cousin, pinned against the wall of the garage, and then caught red-handed by his mother. I couldn’t wait to leave. Thank God summer was almost over.
