GENESIS OF THE END

THE BEGINNING

My father, Darton Smith is a dreamer who seems to think the world is his playground, he can't focus on anything for long including his children, only sees the good in the world and is always trying to help and give to people.

One night, he caught me returning home at dawn from one of my 'nightly adventures', i expected him to at least scold me a little or ask where I am coming from, he looked at me and said

"Aurora the world is such a beautiful place, so much to see and explore right?"

and he walked away. HE ACTUALLY WALKED AWAY! didn't even wait for my answer.

I am of the opinion that he is mentally ill and I'm sure that's why my mother ran away though he says she just left for no reason.

He and my mother were never married because "they did not believe in tying themselves down but were promised to each other forever" My father's words

I used to wonder why she didn't take my brother and I with her but concluded she didn't want to risk it in case the crazy is genetic, I don't remember my mother much since she left when my brother and I were barely 3 years old

Oh my brother is August, actually Augustus but I'll spare him the torture

We are twins, as fraternal as it gets. The boy is practically mute saying like two words a day.

Okay maybe more than two words but he hardly talks, we are as close as polar opposites could get, I love him no doubt about that but he wouldn't be the first person I would go to if I was ever in any major trouble and I got into a lot of trouble.

I am what you would call a misfit, at least that's what Mrs. Jefferson calls me when she is trying to explain to my dad that he isn't raising me right. He doesn't listen to her though, no surprise there.

I love going out in the night, that is when I'm in my element, nobody notices me and I don't notice anyone honestly growing up with my father and brother has made me comfortable with being almost invisible, I don't like attention, pick pocketing is easier and stealing goods is a piece of cake, I don't need to steal to live but the adrenaline rush gets me going through each day

The highlight of my night comes when the RockBottom opens, it is the only place I don't mind being noticed, I have this giddy feeling that envelopes my body knowing I'm a part of something that is punishable by law. I even have some people I could call friends there.

So let me explain what RockBottom is

I'm smiling really wide even talking about it, it is an illegal underground vehicle market and racing unit. I know! Crazy right, the Commander's City would explode if this place was discovered

Sometimes I wish I was born in my father's time when technology was available to everyone, I can't even begin to imagine how liberating it felt to be able to see the world through your own mobile device or have your own cars, Now all the technology in the world are only found in The Commander's City. Only the most powerful people live there with all the technology they could ever need

The other cities are left with trains and phone buildings, the only places where calls can be made

Darton( my father) says that the world's civilization did an almost 360 and it's heartbreaking to watch, I don't share his sentiments since I don't even know how life was before the Commander took charge of the politics of the world, I was born into this and it is the only way of life I know

That doesn't stop me from breaking the law from time to time though and that is exactly what I was doing placing my money on the red race car with yellow arrows on it's roof

"you sure about this one, Rory?" Devon asks,

Devon is Argon's cousin, Argon is the owner of the RockBottom and for the life of me, I still can't figure out why he can't Call me Aurora like everybody else

"For the love of Darton, it's AURORA man and yes I'm sure" He chuckles

"I prefer Rory, pay up" I grumble some choice words and hand him my betting money, one thing I love about betting is the fact that even if I lose, it's not exactly my loss considering the fact that I always steal the money from somebody, it is never my money so it is never my loss ahahah

"AURORA! AURORAAAAAA"

what in Darton!, I turn around and see my friends barreling towards me, oh great they are drunk, the night has barely started yo, People come to the RockBottom for different reasons mine is for the betting and watching races, my friends come for the booze and the race apparently

"Girl we have been looking all over for you, did you just get here?" Mabel asks

"Did you see the newest addition to the car collection, crazyyyyy" Anders adds

"I feel dizzy, what the hell was in that drink Tommy!" Ty says while leaning (heavily might I add) on me

"nothing bro, you just have a weaker stomach than usual this night" Tommy says we winking at the rest of us, of course he laced it, leave it to Tommy to do stupid things

"No I didn't just get here, I've been with Devon sorting out the bets and no I haven't seen the newest car" I finally answer

"Let's go check it out now!! quick before the race starts" I look from them to Ty who has all but fallen asleep on me, Tommy hits him really hard at the back of his neck

'Ow! what the hell was that for "

"we want to go check out the newest car, you're coming?" Mabel asks

"No, I will just go sit over there" he points to an area lined with few chairs

"Okay, we'll meet you there when the race starts" I tell him and we hurry off to the side of the building where the entrance was. We meet one of the cleaning guys on the way and ask him where the latest car was being prepped, he pointed towards the area and we thanked him and finally saw the car and to say it was beautiful was an understatement

I don't know much about cars but I recognize a powerful engine when I see one.

"This is going to be winning a lot of bets" Mabel whistles

"Sure" I say

"it's totally clean, not one scratch, Argon is getting daring if he has started smuggling directly from Commander's City" Tommy says

"I doubt he has the resources or connections for that yet" I say, RockBottom is a big business but not big enough to afford smuggling directly from Commander's City, normally the race cars are obtained from the discarded cars being transported to the Slammer and repaired by some RockBottom tech guys

"the car is a beauty, unlike anyone we have ever seen, smuggled directly or not" Anders says still staring at it like his first love or something

"Dude stop staring at it and just hump it if you want to" Tommy says laughing then they start their normal argument

A loud horn pierce the noise. The race is starting

"Move along boys" Mabel says breaking their argument

I looked back at the car one more time before leaving

We were almost at the race track when we heard the scream
