It grew very noisy after my little speech and I finally sat down. I just realized once again or for the nth time that speaking is too tiring and bothersome. It’s enough that I’m noisy in my head. I looked at William beside who seems to be silently observing everyone and sighed inside as I have a gut feeling that there will be more incidents like this in the future with him. I complained in my head as I waited for these men to finish and when it was, I could see a lot of different emotions in the room but that’s none of my business anymore.

Before anyone else could think of a scheme, I invited Zyla to my office as we waited for the contract to be made. As soon as we entered the office, I watched as Zyla make her way over to the couches, inspected it a little bit before sitting down. I chuckled when she tested the couch, stretched then lied down. When Zyla settled down, I became aware that my secretary and assistant were still in the room and I looked at them as a sign to go away but they were a bit slow, in fact, they looked frightened for some reason. However, just as they left, the door slammed open and in came my i***t brother, Myles with that stupid grin of his. I knew he is up to no good so I quickly stepped in front of Zyla.
"Miss Harper! Please marry me!" Myles shouted as he headed for Zyla but I pushed him away.
Myles looked at me with a raised eyebrow before struggling to get me out of the way. I also had to struggle a bit on stopping him until he gave up.
"Fine, she's all yours.” Myles said as we both straightened up to fix ourselves.
Of course, Zyla had been still lying there all the time as she watched us but sat up when Myles approached with an outstretched hand.
"You really taught those annoying people a lesson. I say, you unknowingly just secured my brother the CEO position. So are you two dating?" Were the next words of my i***t brother.
Zyla did not answer and just looked blankly at Myles. I gave Myles a little warning look.
"There's something I've been meaning to ask but never had the opportunity to do so until now." Myles stated to Zyla in a light voice.
"Yes?"
"Can you create a machine that can erase genes?"
"What kind of a question is that?" I exclaimed and probably wanted to smack his head at the same time.
"Think about it, if we can erase your biological mother's gene, then no one will open their mouths again. Genius, right?" Myles said but this time, I couldn’t help it and gave him a little knock in the head.
"Remove my gene and get me to look like you? No way, I’ll pass.” I said then looked at Zyla but her expression has slightly changed. “Zyla?”
I noticed how Zyla was staring at us with wide eyes. She opened her mouth, seemingly to speak then shut them again before standing up and tripping herself on the process. I immediately moved to catch her and we looked at each other for a while before her whole face lit up in joy.
"Your brother is a genius!" Zyla suddenly said as she let go of me and turned around to gather her coat and bag. "I need to go."
Myles and I looked at each other as Zyla headed for the door. She stopped for a while as if contemplating something before turning around.
“I love you both.” She said and headed out.
"What was that? She just said she loves us, I think I'll go ahead and marry her then." Myles got another knock on the head.
"What are you thinking of your future sister-in-law?" I said as I headed to my desk.
"Hey you guys are not dating." Myles complained as he rubbed his forehead which is turning a bit red. Maybe I am to blame for my brother’s stupidity. I’ve been hitting his head too often.
"She's my mate. Digest that loser." I childishly answered and watched as my little brother’s face turned blank before his face had a reaction again.
"I keep forgetting that your mother is a werewolf. So how far have the two of you gone?" Myles wiggled his eyebrows and I shook my head.
"She thinks I'm human since it seems I appear as one to other creatures. However, I felt that something was troubling her since the first time I saw her months ago so I decided not to distract her."
"You're so valiant, dear brother."
"Of course, afterall, when she's finally free, I'm marrying her right away as a punishment for making me wait."
"You know that's not fair when you're the one who's choosing to wait."
I ignored my brother as I turned to smile out the window. The secretary came inside a moment later, carrying the contract that Zyla had signed sloppily. I smiled again as I found another reason to meet her.

I rushed to the big lab just in time as one of the gene labs just became available. William’s brother had unintentionally just gave me the most simple and possible solution for Day’s condition. All these times, I had been thinking way too hard and had gone straight to thinking of complex things that I had failed to look at the simplest solution of them all. Actually, to be perfectly honest, this is just too ridiculous. I mean I’m supposed to be a genius and everyone in the family is smart. How could no one have ever thought of this very simple solution? However, as promising as it sounds, I still continued to analyze Day’s gene structure.
It took me days to process everything but it was mostly to double check everything since it’s the first time that I had ever been unsure of anything related to research. However, one of the reason for this is that it won’t majorly rely on my machines, it will solely rely on magic.
“Mom!” I called out as soon as I entered my parent’s house.
“Living room, sweetie.” Mom answered but I was already there before she finished. She was standing up with concern written on her face. “Is everything all right?”
“I found the solution for Day.” I blurted out immediately.
“What? Are you-“
“Yes mom. I’m really sure about this one.” I eagerly said before I sat down beside her.
I explained everything to her and she felt the same way I did, feeling stupid.
“What do you think? Will they agree?” I asked when I finished.
“I don’t know sweetie but…” Mom trailed off.
“I think you should be the one to tell her. I won’t know what to say.” I said to mom after a while.
Mom called my sister immediately while I went to my small lab to prepare but it was just in case my sister gives us her permission. I haven’t thought about it but mom had made me realize that my sister had the final say if we were to continue or not. That was the only variable that I did not think of but in my case, there was no way I could have even thought of that. I still have a long way to go in learning how to be “normal”.
When my sister and her family finally arrived, they called me back to the house as I was putting the finishing touches to the machine. Everyone, including my brother and his mate, were already settled in the living room when I arrived. However, they had put Day to sleep so that we all could talk properly.
“Zyla…” My sister greeted when she saw me and I could see something in her eyes that I could not place. I nodded at her and went to lean on a wall.
Mom and I looked at each other before mom faced everyone to explain. I interjected here and there but I let mom do all the talking. The thing is that I wouldn’t have explained it clearly if I were the one to have talked. No one would understand me.
“Make her human?” My sister confirmed when mom was done. Mom nodded as an answer.
“Is that possible?” My sister’s mate asked as well.
“It was a very obvious solution that we should have thought about since the very beginning but we dived way too deep in thinking of a solution that we just didn’t think of the simplest one.” Mom said or rather muttered to herself but everyone heard.
“It’s safe because we are going to do it with the help of magic. Magic will also be a safety net to preserve her life just in case we fail.” I answered his question. “Science and machine cannot modify or rearrange a person’s gene…yet but with the help of magic, we can touch Day’s inside without really touching anything on the surface.”
“If it were that simple then why do you need my permission? Our permission?” My sister asked. Now, I could see it clearly, the fear and the hope in my sister’s eyes.
“Zoya…we are making Day a human being.” Mom answered after a while but my sister still hadn’t processed it yet.
“We are immortals who have the capability to live for centuries or even forever.” Aunt Saff explained this time. “Humans are very fragile beings who only have a limited time to live because they have the ability to age.”
“It’s only a means to make her live longer. With this solution, there is still death in the end.” I said as I saw understanding dawn on my sister’s face.
I watched my sister’s conflicted face and looked away when she started pacing around. I just don’t know what to do in times like this.
“This is why we had to ask you. We can look for another solution, one that can make Day a normal being like us, someone who can live forever with us.” Mom said gently as she stood up to approach my sister.
“No.” My sister suddenly said as she looked at her mate. “We all know that Day doesn’t have the time to wait.”
Her words brought silence to the room as we waited. She finally turned to us.
“Do it. Day may become a normal human being but it will give us more time with her and we can’t be selfish about it.” My sister finally decided.
After the final check on the machine and coordinating with Aunt Saff and mom, we finally brought Day inside my small lab while the rest of the family waited outside. There was really nothing for me to do but direct my mom and aunt Saff on where and how to use their magic but nevertheless, this feels like the world to me and probably to everyone else.
“What in the world?!” My mom and aunt Saff suddenly said at the same time and I saw the most amazing light I have ever seen in my life but…it was coming from inside Day.
Aunt Saff summoned a glass jar from nowhere and the light went inside it. However, the next instant it separated from Day’s body, her vitals started falling. We all moved frantically to save Day but nothing was doing anything then I just stopped moving to think. I looked around, trying to get ideas by connecting everything around me but I just ended up looking at the monitor.
“We have to make her a new body.” I said out loud. Mom and aunt looked at me like I was crazy. Maybe I am.
“What do you mean?” They both asked at the same time and I went to the machine to modify the program.
“I didn’t mean it literally like that.” I said as I worked. “Day’s body is detoriating and it seems like that white light had something to do with keeping her body together before.”
“What do we do then?” Mom asked.
“Let her detoriate as much as possible.” I answered and I still received a shocked response. “We will use whatever is left of her to regenerate her whole body. This actually works perfectly because the regeneration process will adhere to the genes that we had modified.”
“All right. Tell us what to do.” Aunt Saff finally agreed.
