Chapter 9: The Rise of the Rogue Kingdom
---
đ Umbra Borderlands â The Rogue Kingdom
A storm brewed quietly at the edge of the world.
Deep in the barren lands where no pack dared tread, dark clouds hung like cobwebs spun by the gods themselvesâthick, heavy, smothering. The soil was cracked and scarred, pulsing with blood-like veins that glowed under the crimson moon.
And at the heart of this desolation stood the Obsidian Palace, carved from black stone that shimmered like frozen oil. Cold, soulless. A monument to centuries of pain and defiance.
Inside, the grand hall echoed with every movement. A place where screams had once been music and loyalty was traded for violence.
Atop twin thrones of jagged bone and black diamonds sat the rulersâKing Kessedy Stone and Queen Jessica Stone.
He, tall, lean, and carved from brutality. His eyes were silver, dead of emotion, his smile cruel and quiet.
She, beautiful in a haunting wayâskin like porcelain tainted by shadow, lips red with ruin, eyes glowing the shade of night-blood. Jessica had power that whispered death with every breath she took.
Before them, kneeling low to the polished bone floor, was The Seerâa twisted, ancient creature with sightless eyes and tangled dreadlocks woven with bone charms. His voice was a rasp that seemed to be made of wind and ash.
âI felt it,â the Seer whispered, eyes rolled to the back of his head. âA shift. The old blood rises. The Moon Goddess awakens her⊠She is coming.â
Jessicaâs head tilted, like a feline sensing prey. âShe? The ancient wolf? Are you certain?â
The Seer chuckled. âShe burns with it. She bleeds light. And the dream realm quakes in her wake.â
Kessedy leaned forward, eyes alight. âIs she ripe?â
âNot yet,â the Seer muttered, saliva slipping from the corner of his mouth. âBut she will be. Power so pure it could birth gods⊠or monsters.â
Jessica smiled, a sick, seductive curl of her lips. âThen weâll make her ours. Boy or girlâno matter. She will produce our heir.â
Kessedy rose, eyes like sharpened steel. âSend the hounds. Let the first shadows test her will. If she fails, we find another. If she survives... then she is worthy.â
The Seer cackled as his body trembled with visions, âShe wonât break easy. She was made for more.â
Above them, unseen by mortal eyes, the Moon Goddess stood cloaked in light, her arms folded.
She did not interfere. Not yet.
She simply smiled.
âShe must learn what she is made of,â the Goddess whispered to the stars, âeven if it means dancing with darkness.â

đ Crescent Ash Pack â Sandyâs Room
Sandy tossed violently in her bed, damp hair plastered to her skin. Her sheets were soaked through, her breath short and sharp. It was as if her body was fighting something unseenâa war she wasnât awake for.
Her hands clawed at the covers, her legs kicked beneath the linen. Sweat rolled down her temples like tears.
Thenâ
The voices began.
Smooth. Deceptive. Beautiful.
âSheâs almost readyâŠâ
âHer womb will carry the child of ruinâŠâ
âShe doesnât know the power she bleedsâŠâ
âShe is oursâŠâ
âNot yet. Let her awaken⊠then we strikeâŠâ
Sandy whimpered in her sleep, head tossing. The images flickered like lightning behind her closed lidsâfaceless figures in obsidian robes, crowned in bone and smoke. She could smell burnt earth and rotting roses.
Thenâa voice, clearer than the others.
Masculine. Smooth. Ancient.
âSandy... itâs time.â
Her heart slammed against her ribs.
âWake up.â
And she did.
With a scream.
Sandy jolted upright, her hand flying to her chest. It burned. Actually burned. Like something hot and ancient was branded beneath her flesh. Her breathing was ragged, sobs clawing their way up her throat. Tears streamed down her cheeks.
Seconds later, the door flew open.
âMama!â she cried, voice raw.
Her mother was at her side instantly. âWhat is it, baby? Sandy, look at me!â
âIâIt burnsâmy chestâMama, I saw themâI heard themâwhy does it hurt so much?â she sobbed, collapsing into her motherâs arms.
Her mother, usually so strong, so unshakeableâfroze.
The same pain. The same power.
History repeating.
She held her tightly, rocking gently.
âShhh... itâs okay. Youâre safe.â
âNo, Iâm not,â Sandy hiccuped. âThey said they were coming. Theyâre going to make meâMama, why are they in my head?â
Her mother closed her eyes. âWeâll look into it, I promise.â Then, after a pause, barely a whisper:
ââŠZayne is your mate, isnât he?â
Sandy nodded slowly, heartbreak glistening in her eyes. âBut he hates me. Heâs going to reject me. I can feel it.â
Her mother sighed, brushing a damp curl from her forehead. âThen maybe thatâs not a bad thing.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âSleep, my baby. Weâll talk more in the morning.â

đ Nightveil Pack â Kaelâs Quarters
Kael lay on his back, eyes locked on the wooden beams of his ceiling, moonlight dancing across the room.
He hadnât slept in days. Not properly.
His wolf was quietâbut not at peace. Not yet.
Cassieâs rejection played on a loop.
But beneath thatâher.
The girl of dreams. The one with warmth and cinnamon and peace.
The one who saved him.
His hand wandered to his chestâright over his heart. It burned. Not pain. Not fire.
Recognition.
Something had been etched there the moment she kissed his forehead in that glowing forest.
Was it her? Was it real?
He closed his eyes, finally giving in to the exhaustion.
And the dream took him.
---
The forest was silver.
Everything shimmered.
But this timeâhe wasnât alone.
She stood in front of him. Taller now. Realer. Powerful.
She wore silver robes, eyes like stars wrapped in a storm.
âKael,â she said gently. âDonât fear the path.â
âWho are you?â he whispered.
She smiled softly. âIâve always been with you.â
âThe Moon Goddess?â he asked, hesitant.
She walked closer, her steps like whispers of wind. âYes. But not as youâve imagined me. I do not control fateâI only give you the light to walk it.â
Kael clenched his fists. âIâm broken. She rejected me. And the girl from my dreamsâI donât even know who she is.â
âYou will. Sheâs closer than you think. Her power will shake the world.â
He swallowed thickly. âWhat does that mean?â
âShe was made to birth life... and to destroy kingdoms.â
Kael blinked. âBut sheâs just a girl.â
The Goddess smirked. âSo were you. Once.â
A pause. Her gaze darkened.
âTheyâre coming. You must be ready. Stay close to the light... or be consumed by shadow.â
---
He gasped awake.
His body drenched in sweat.
His wolf stirred. A name on its tongue.
Sandy.

đ Umbra Borderlands â The First Test
Far away, the Obsidian hounds were unleashed.
Beasts carved from nightmares and corrupted wolf blood. Fast. Cunning. Hungry.
They raced toward Crescent Ash with one mission:
Find the ancient girl. Test her blood. Break her or awaken her.
The first test had begun.
