I: Zane The following day, I found I had a few more pesos than I had expected to have, and so I went to the old city again. It was a black heat, and the fruit vendors, street performers, and palenqueras sweat under the shade of eaves and awnings. The blasting yellow of the palenqueras' dresses flashed and hypnotized. I wandered, exchanging greetings with the people I had begun to know, then ducked into my favorite restaurant. There I found Faith and Miles. He was dressed in pastel linen, but with dark socks, and wearing sunglasses.
